• Assessment of the Knowledge and Attitude of Female Students towards Cervical Cancer Prevention at an International University in Japan

Ghotbi, Nader,Anai, Akane Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

Cervical cancer resulting from prior infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is a significant public health threat against young Japanese women. A national immunization plan to vaccinate 13~16 year old female students against HPV infection has been started in Japan since 2010, and may reach almost full coverage by the end of 2012. Older age females who may already be sexually active are not targeted by this plan but should follow safer sex practices as well as periodic screening of the cervix cytology to reduce their risk of developing cervical cancer. HPV vaccination alone does not offer full protection either, because only some HPV types are covered by the vaccines and the long-term efficacy of the vaccines has not been determined yet. Therefore, we did a survey at an international university in Japan to study the knowledge and attitude of female college students towards prevention of cervical cancer, to examine the age when they start sexual activity and other related attributes that may influence the risk of cervical cancer. We discuss the results of our survey and what they imply for the possible impact of an HPV immunization plan on the risk of cervical cancer in Japan, and conclude by an emphasis on the need to increase awareness among Japanese female adolescents and to enhance the cervical screening rates among older females who are already sexually active.

Effect of Heat Treatment on Martensitic Transformation of Ni47Mn40Sn13 Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Prepared by Mechanical Alloying

        A. Ghotbi Varzaneh,P. Kameli,V. R. Zahedi,F. Karimzadeh,H. Salamati 대한금속·재료학회 2015 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.21 No.4

In this paper, an attempt has been made to synthesis of the nanostructured Ni47Mn40Sn13 ferromagnetic shape memory alloy by ball milling of Ni, Mn and Sn powder mixture. The structure and magnetic evaluation of samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and AC susceptibility measurements. The results showed that after 20 hours of ball milling, the nanostructured L21-Ni47Mn40Sn13 powder was formed with an average particle size of 5 nm. In the as-milled specimen, the martensitic transformation (MT) was not observed. This was basically due to the atomic disordering and large lattice strain in nanoparticles. However, the annealing of milled specimens at temperatures above 1023K for 16 hours led to the occurrence of MT in nanostructured Ni47Mn40Sn13 powders. We also calculated t-he activation energy of MT by using Kissinger method and it was estimated to be about 52 kJ mol-1. The results demonstrate that a combination of MA and subsequent heat treatment has the potential to produce Ni-Mn- Sn magnetic shape memory.

Modal Pushover Analysis of Skewed Bridges-Case Study of Jack Tone Road On-Ramp Overcrossing

Abdoul R. Ghotbi 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.5

Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA) procedure was applied to a skewed-abutment bridge. Dynamic properties of the bridge were computed using an eigenvalue analysis. Base shear versus lateral target displacement (vbn−urn) of the monitoring point was generated for each mode of vibration for both longitudinal and transverse directions. Dynamic properties of the bridge were then applied to (vbn−urn) curves to generate capacity spectrum curves for various modes. Target displacement of each mode was computed by considering both capacity spectrum and demand spectrum (obtained from ground motion) assuming the bridge as a Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) system. The corresponding displacements were then converted to a new set of displacements for a Multi Degree of Freedom (MDOF) system (actual bridge). Using these displacements, a set of new pushover analyses was carried out for each mode and response quantities were recorded. The recoded responses were then summed up using a modal combination technique for both longitudinal and transverse directions. Overall response of the bridge system considering a bi-directional ground motion was computed by combining the longitudinal and transverse responses. Estimated errors which were computed with respect to the results of the Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis (NDA) proved that MPA can be deemed as a promising tool for skewed bridges which can be used instead of NDA so that computational expenses can be decreased significantly while maintaining a reasonable accuracy.

Occupational Exposure to Steady Magnetic Fields and its Effect on Workers Blood Indices at an Electrolysis Unit

        Mohammad Reza Ghotbi Ravandi,Hossein Mardi,Narges Khanjani,Abolfazl Barkhordari 한국자기학회 2016 Journal of Magnetics Vol.21 No.2

The health effects of environmental and occupational exposure to steady magnetic fields is a matter of concern. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hematologic effects of exposure to steady magnetic fields at the electrolysis unit of a Copper complex. The population under study was the workers of the electrolysis unit of the copper refinery. The average steady magnetic field in the exposure group was 2.5 mT. The blood indices of workers exposure to steady magnetic fields after adjusting for confounders showed decreased white blood cells (except neutrophils) and increase in the number and volume of platelets. Red blood cells did not show any significant difference. Exposure to steady magnetic fields even in proposed safe limits may have hematologic effects on humans. There is a necessity for more research about the safe doses of exposure to magnetic fields.

W.,Pearson, C.,Serje American Astronomical Society 2018 The Astrophysical journal Supplement series Vol.234 No.2

We present a photometric catalog for Spitzer Space Telescope warm mission observations of the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP; centered at R.A. = 18(h)00(m)00(s), decl. = 66(d)33(m)38(s).552). The observations are conducted with IRAC in the 3.6 and 4.5 mu m bands over an area of 7.04 deg(2), reaching 1 sigma depths of 1.29 mu Jy and 0.79 mu Jy in the 3.6 mu m and 4.5 mu m bands, respectively. The photometric catalog contains 380,858 sources with 3.6 and 4.5 mu m band photometry over the full-depth NEP mosaic. Point-source completeness simulations show that the catalog is 80% complete down to 19.7 AB. The accompanying catalog can be used for constraining the physical properties of extragalactic objects, studying the AGN population, measuring the infrared colors of stellar objects, and studying the extragalactic infrared background light.

A rare case of primary ovarian mesenchymal chondrosarcoma in pregnancy

Sepideh Azizi,Elena Ghotbi,Setare Nassiri The Korean Society for Reproductive Medicine 2022 Clinical and Experimental Reproductive Medicine Vol.49 No.4

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare tumor that is more common in young people; it is an uncommon type of chondrosarcoma with a poor prognosis. In two-thirds of cases, it affects the bone, especially the spine. However, parts of the body other than the skeletal system are occasionally involved. These rarer types have a worse prognosis, with a high likelihood of metastasis and death. Due to the possible misdiagnosis of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, the integrated use of imaging, immunohistochemistry, and pathology can be helpful.

Thin film graphene oxide membrane: Challenges and gas separation potential

        Fateme Abbasi,Javad Karimi-Sabet,Cyrus Ghotbi,Zeinab Abbasi 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.5

Graphene oxide membranes were prepared by vacuum and pressurized ultrafiltration methods on the 12% modified Polyacrylonitrile (12mPAN) substrate to specify challenges, salient features, future directions, and potential of GO membrane for separation fields using characterization techniques and gas separation test (studied gases are CO2, He and N2), which is an efficient tool for better understanding of GO membrane behavior. GO membrane structure was examined over a wide range of parameters, such as pore size range of substrate and its surface properties, pH of GO dispersion, GO content, synthesis pressure, operating pressure and temperature. The results show that the GO content does not hold a linear relationship with the permeance and selectivity. Film thickness, aggregates, synthesis pressure defects and interlayer spacing have significant effects on the gas separation performance of GO membranes which originate from the synthesis method and its conditions.

Novel heterojunction magnetic composite MIL-53 (Fe)/ZnFe2O4: Synthesis and photocatalytic pollutant degradation

Mahnaz Mohebali Nejadian,Niyaz Mohammad Mahmoodi,Ghotbi Cyrus,Farhad Khorasheh 한국화학공학회 2022 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.39 No.10

A new magnetic composite was synthesized by integration of ZnFe2O4 and MIL-53(Fe) micro-rods by a solvothermal method. This composite served as a heterogeneous catalyst to overcome the high electron-hole recombination rates of ZnFe2O4 and to enhance the degradation of Direct Red 23 under visible light irradiation. Different analytical techniques, including XRD, FTIR, SEM, DRS, VSM, and PL, were employed to characterize the synthesized heterojunction nanocomposite and to evaluate its photocatalytic activity. The ZnFe2O4/MIL-53(Fe)/Vis-light system resulted in significantly higher dye degradation as compared with pristine ZnFe2O4 and MIL-53(Fe) semiconductors at the optimum pH of 3.1 and irradiation time of 120 minutes. Moreover, the composite exhibited high magnetization property that led to easy collection and recovery from effluent solution. It also retained its durability and stability after five cycles. The photo-generated hole was found to be the primary dye destruction agent as specified by the scavenger test.

Prediction of Scour in Plunge Pools below Outlet Bucket Using Artificial Intelligence

        B. Lashkar-Ara,S. M. H. Ghotbi,L. Najafi 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.7

Accurate prediction of sediment scour hole dimensions downstream of hydraulic structures, e.g. the outlet bucket, is a complex and not straight forward engineering problem encountered worldwide. Dimensions of a scour hole are usually determined by empirical equations which their validation is limited by experimental conditions. As constructing physical models has its own difficulty, determining of scour hole parameters has been applied in this paper for a collection of previous experimental studies. Two artificial intelligence techniques (ANN & ANFIS) are used and the results are compared with empirical equation for maximum scour holes using nonlinear regression method. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) simply represents interconnection of neurons, each of which carries out the task of combining the input, determining its strength by comparing the combination and finding out the result. On the other hand, ANFIS is a hybrid scheme which uses the learning capability of the ANN to derive the fuzzy rules with membership functions. The results showed that maximum error caused by applying ANFIS techniques in estimating scour hole dimensions was 5.2 percent while the error in neural network model was 10.38 percent. The significance of different parameters was discussed and a simple, innovative formula was proposed. This formula is an interesting tool for the engineering community due to its preferences for estimating the parameters of complex phenomena like erosion procedures. It has been established that scour estimations could be improved if soft computation is used in place of the traditional formulae.
