본 연구는 수계에서 오랜 시간 동안 안정한 생체적합 금 나노입자의 제조에 관한 것으로, 환원제와 안정제의 역할을 동시에 수행하는 폴리에틸렌이민을 이용하여 응집성이 낮은 초미립 폴리에틸렌이민-금 나노입자를 상온의 수용액 상에서 합성하였다. 폴리에틸렌이민-금 나노입자의 평균 입자크기는 8∼12 nm이었고, 수계의 나노콜로이드 상에서 50 nm 내외의 클러스터를 형성하였으며, 매우 뛰어난 안정성을 보였다. 상대적으로 낮은 금속 전구체의 농도에서 나노입자를 제조하였을 때, 입자의 크기가 두드러지게 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 폴리에틸렌이민-금 나노입자의 X-선 회절분석 결과, 금에서 나타나는 전형적인 결정 피크가 발견되었다. 또한 세포배양실험 결과, 폴리에틸렌이민과는 달리 폴리에틸렌이민-금 나노입자는 98%의 세포 생존율을 보여 세포독성은 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과로부터 본 연구에서 합성된 폴리에틸렌이민-금 나노입자는 CT 조영제 등으로의 활용이 기대된다. This study is related to the preparation of biocompatible gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) which are stable in aqueous solutions for a long time. Ultrasmall polyethyleneimine (PEI)-capped AuNPs (PEIAuNPs) with limited agglomeration were prepared in aqueous solutions at room temperature, which were based on the roles of PEI as a reductant and a stabilizer. PEI-AuNPs with an average size of 8∼12 nm formed highly stable nanocolloids with an average hydrodynamic cluster size of around 50 nm in aqueous media. At a low concentration of metal precursor hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III), the particle size was reduced noticeably. The typical peaks of gold were observed in the X-ray diffraction pattern of AuNPs. The cell viability of 98% was obtained in the case of PEI-AuNPs, while PEI was cytotoxic. The PEI-AuNP is considered to be a potential candidate as a contrast agent for computed tomography.
FCT 2 : A case of superficial basal cell carcinoma treated by topical ingenol mebutate gel 0.015%

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer, typically slow growing, rarely metastatic, and usually effectively managed with surgery. Topical ingenol mebutate gel, a derivate of Euphorbia peplus plant that acts by chemo ablative and immune-stimulatory properties, recently approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agent for field therapy of actinic keratosis in 2012.Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of ingenol mebutate gel 0.015% in superficial basal cell carcinoma. Methods: A 84-year-old Korean woman was diagnosed as superficial BCC on forehead by punch biopsy. We directly applied ingenol mebutate gel 0.015% for consecutive 4 days. We observed clinical course and the development of complications. Results: The patient experienced severe erythema, bullae, and swelling extending beyond the application site and complained of severe application-site pain and headache from the first day, worsened on the third day. The local reaction lasted almost 1 week. We observed almost complete resolution after 1 month from the treatment and she remained free of recurrence at 3 months of follow up until now. Conclusion: Ingenol mebutate gel, 0.015%, is safe and have efficacy in patients with superficial basal cell carcinoma.

In this study, the antioxidant activity and protective effect of Salvia plebeia herb ethanol extract (SPE) on SH-SY5Y cells induced by oxidative stress was investigated. As a result, the total phenol content was 35.94 mg GAE/g and total flavonoid content was 50.44 mg/g in SPE. SPE showed strong DPPH radical scavenging efficacy at concentrations of 100 μg/mL and 200 μg/mL, showing 89.13% and 88.27%, respectively (IC50 : 18.66 μg/mL). SPE also scavenged ABTS radical in a dose-dependent manner. Especially, 200 μg/mL SPE showed the highest ABTS radical scavenging efficacy, showing 91.82%. SPE showed high ·OH radical elimination at concentrations of 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 μg/mL, indicating over 90% scavenging activity among all groups. Treatment with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂, 500 μM) induced neuronal cells death (63.72%) compared to non-treated cells (100%). However, SPE treatment significantly increased cell viability. In addition, in the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay, a decrease in the amount of LDH release was observed in SPE-treated group. Compared to the control group (183.26%), the amount of LDH release was 46.03% at the concentration of 100 μg/mL.

Background: Although various destructive methods have been described for the treatment of syringomas, however, these are often associated with significant scarring and recurrence. Recently, multiple-drilling method by carbon dioxide (CO2) laser was introduced for an alternative modality to gain good cosmetic results. Objectives: In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combined treatment using CO2 laser and botulinum toxin A (BTXA) in the treatment of syringomas. Methods: Forty-eight patients with periorbital syringomas were treated with topical application of BTXA immediately after CO2 laser treatment. 44 patients were treated with CO2 laser only. Results: The Patients who were treated with the combined therapy of CO2 laser and BTXA required fewer treatment sessions compared to those with CO2 laser only (p < .05). Incomparison of clinical improvement after two treatment sessions, the rates showing good or excellent result with the combined therapy were higher than those with the CO2 laser only (87.5% and 70.5%, respectively, p < .05). Conclusion: The combined treatment using CO2 laser and BTXA might have additional effects compared to the CO2 laser only. The reasons for this effect may be linked to the pathogenesis of syringomas and mechanism of action of BTXA.
Potent anti-adhesion agent using a drug-eluting visible-light curable hyaluronic acid derivative

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Post-operative adhesion is a very serious complication in the clinical field, frequently occurring after surgery. In severe cases, reoperation may be required. In this study, a visible light-curable furfuryl hyaluronic acid derivative was prepared and combined with ibuprofen for anti-adhesion and anti-inflammatory applications. A furfuryl isocyanate moiety was introduced in hyaluronic acid affording furfuryl hyaluronic acid (F-HA). The anti-adhesion and anti-inflammatory effects of F-HA were examined in chickens at 2, 4, and 8 weeks postoperation. It was concluded that F-HA combined with ibuprofen is a suitable anti-adhesion and anti-inflammation agent.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Background: Nevus of Ota is a common dermal melanocytic disease in Asian, and appears as mottled brown or blue-gray pigmented macules on the face. Various laser treatment including ruby, alexandrite or Nd:YAG has been widely used. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to inspect the clinical outcomes of laser treatment and to review the clinical type of nevus of Ota. Methods: Sixty-seven patients treated with laser for nevus of Ota between 2009 and 2015 were included. Data were obtained with retrospective chart review and two dermatologists evaluated clinical improvement on photographs taken at each visit. Results: Mean age of the patients was 12.7【13.4 years, and male-to-female ratio was 1:1.23. Clinically, severe, moderate and mild grade of nevus of Ota were 9, 30, and 28 of patients, respectively. By Tanino’s classification, type IA and type II were equal (28%) and 24 of patients (36%) were unspecified. 45 (67%) involved eyelids. 27 (40%) of patients showed excellent outcomes and 20 of 67 (30%) achieved good outcomes. Mean frequency of treatment was 13.30【7.65. Treatment sessions (16.9【7.1) in the excellent outcome group were significant (P < .05) compared to that in the unattained group (9.3【3.9). Conclusion: Laser is an effective and safe modality for the treatment of nevus of Ota. Tanino’s classification seems to be not satisfactory for classification of nevus of Ota. A new clinical classification would be necessary.
