Rice bran lipase (RBL) was delipidated to enhance its stability in organic solvent and its esterification activity at elevated temperature. The esterification activity of delipidated RBL increased as temperature was increased from 45 to $65^{\circ}C$. The esterification activity of delipidated RBL at $65^{\circ}C$ was about 14 times greater than that of the non-delipidated RBL. As temperature was further increased to $75^{\circ}C$, the non-delipidated RBL lost all esterification activity, whereas the delipidated RBL retained approximately 48% of its esterification activity. The delipidated RBL maintained a relative esterification activity greater than 80% after 16 h of incubation in hexane, whereas the non-delipidated RBL maintained a relative esterification activity of only 50%. A method for production of acylglycerol using delipidated RBL to esterify palm oil fatty acid distillate (PFAD) with glycerol in hexane was successfully developed. The effects of reaction temperatures and type of water removal agents (silica gel and molecular sieve) on the degree of esterification were also examined. A 4 h reaction at $65^{\circ}C$, catalyzed by delipidated RBL and using silica gel as the water removal agent resulted in 53.8% esterification. Thin layer chromatography analysis suggested that the esterified product was primarily comprised of mono- and di-acylglycerols.

Background: The current standard treatment for patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is rituximab combined with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisolone (CHOP). A significant number of patients were not treated with recommended dose of rituximab due to limited financial resources in Malaysia. This study evaluates the efficacy of R-CHOP like chemotherapy in Malaysian patients with DLBCL. Materials and Methods: The study comprised a retrospective analysis of patients with DLBCL treated at a single centre. The outcome was compared with patients who were treated with R-CHOP like and CHOP like chemotherapy. Patients who were treated with lower dose of rituximab was subanalysed for outcome. Results: A total of 86 patients who had CHOP-like chemotherapy were included. Only 39 (45%) patients had rituximab and only 12 (29%) patients had the recommended dose. The overall response (OR) and complete response (CR) rates were 88% and 81% respectively. There was no significant difference in OR and CR in patients who had rituximab and those without rituxmab. Those with International Prognostic Index (IPI) score of ${\leq}2$ had significant higher CR rate, progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (p<0.001). Conclusions: The lack of significant improvement in CR and DFS in our patients may be due to an inadequate dose of rituximab.

The purification of papain using a reversed phase expanded bed adsorption chromatography (RP-EBAC)using a FastlineTM 10 EBAC column packed with AmberliteTM XAD7HP has been carried out in this study. An efficient large scale direct recovery of papain was developed and optimized from unclarified papayajuice feedstock in batch adsorption system. Enhancement of papain purity was further investigated inEBAC by stepwise elution strategy. High papain purity of 74.98% and high purification factor of 7.04 wereobtained. This study shows a great potential of using two step elution RP-EBAC system to purify papainfrom unclarified papaya juice.
