Final report of key comparison CCM.G-K1: International comparison of absolute gravimeters ICAG2009

        Arias, E Felicitas,Jiang, Zhiheng,Robertsson, Lennart,Vitushkin, Leonid,Ruess, Diethard,Ullrich, Christian,Inglis, Dave,Liard, Jacques,Robinson, Ian,Ji, Wangxi,Shuqing, Wu,Lee, Chiungwu,Palinkas, Vojt Springer-Verlag 2012 METROLOGIA -BERLIN- Vol.49 No.-

The International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters 2009 (ICAG2009) was carried out in September 2009 at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). The ICAG2009 and its data processing were performed in accordance with the agreed Technical Protocol which was approved by the Steering Committee. The pilot laboratory (BIPM) evaluated the final results of the key comparison from the measurements made at the BIPM in the framework of ICAG2009. A pilot study run in parallel allowed evaluation of the offsets for absolute gravimeters from institutes not fulfilling the requirements for participating in the key comparison. The gravity values at the five stations, and the offsets for each absolute gravimeter, were obtained by a weighted least squares fit. The results indicate that all participating gravimeters are consistent within their expanded uncertainties.

Main text.To reach the main text of this paper, click on Final Report. • PROACTIVE AND RESPONSIVE MARKET ORIENTATION ON MARKETING EXPLORATION AND FIRM PERFORMANCE

Lancy Mac,Felicitas Evangelista 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

While market orientation is long evident to be a key contributor to firm performance (Narver & Slater, 1990; Jaworski & Kohli, 1993), firms now increasingly find that proactive market orientation (Narver, Slater & Maclachlan, 2004) may be more appropriate for the rapidly changing market. Not only can it contribute to new product development success, it is proposed that it can enhance the ability to market which is labeled marketing exploration (Kyriakopoulos & Moorman, 2004). In this study, we posited proactive market orientation together with the original market orientation named here responsive market orientation as essential to developing a firm’s marketing exploration capability. As marketing competences reside in the everyday routines and practice related to the marketing function, marketing exploration enables one to update the ability to perform various marketing tasks which is essential capability of the firm to get ahead of the competition. Entrepreneurial orientation is also introduced as a mediating factor between the above relationships with the argument that such posture is related to a firm’s propensity to innovate, take risk and be proactive (Lumpkin & Dess, 1996) which is related to a proactive market orientation. A survey was carried out in China and results show that proactive market orientation is positively related to marketing exploration while responsive market orientation has positive impact on marketing exploration only through entrepreneurial orientation. Marketing exploration in turn positively impact firm performance. Results of this study contribute theoretically in revitalizing the market orientation literature which has been research for almost three decades. While leading customers with a proactive market orientation is getting more salient in this rapidly changing market environment, the original market orientation cannot be ignored. Both orientations are essential to enhance firms’ ability to renew their marketing skills and routines. This is definitely more important than just coming up with new products/services as it enables firms to update its marketing knowledge and skills so is crucial to long term performance.

An outlook on livestock welfare conditions in African communities - A review

Njisane, Yonela Zifikile,Mukumbo, Felicitas Esnart,Muchenje, Voster Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.6

A significant proportion of the African continent is conducive for animal agricultural production, due to its historical experience and available resources to accommodate and nurture various indigenous and exotic animal species and breeds. With food security being a global challenge, animal products can play an important role as nutrient dense food sources in human diets, particularly in Africa. However, this does not seem to reach its full potential in practice, due to numerous reasons that have not been adequately addressed. Animal welfare reservations can be highlighted as one of the major contributing factors to the curbed progress. The consequences have been scientifically proven to affect product quality and market access. However, in the African community, the concept of animal welfare has not been fully embraced. While there are international animal welfare standards in the developed world, there are inherent factors that hinder adoption of such initiatives in most developing regions, particularly among communal farmers. These include cultural norms and practices, social ranking, socio-economic status, available resources, information dissemination and monitoring tools. Therefore, there is need to harmonize what is internationally required and what is feasible to accommodate global variability. The protocols followed to ensure and evaluate farm animal welfare require regular investigation, innovation and a sustainable approach to enhance animal productivity, efficiency and product quality. Additionally, investing in animal wellbeing and health, as well as empowering communities with significant knowledge, has a potential to improve African livelihoods and contribute to food security. This review seeks to highlight the concept of animal welfare in relation to livestock and food production in African conditions.

Environmental protection by the adsorptive elimination of acetaminophen from water: A comprehensive review

        Chinenye Adaobi Igwegbe,Chukwunonso O. Aniagor,Stephen N. Oba,Pow-Seng Yap,Felicitas U. Iwuchukwu,Tianqi Liu,Elias Costa de Souza,Joshua O. Ighalo 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.104 No.-

Acetaminophen (ACT) is an effective and widely available analgesic and antipyretic used in medical practice. It can get into water from veterinary use, medical waste and pharmaceutical effluents. The aim ofthis review was to elaborate on the recent progress on ACT adsorption from water, present the findingsin a structured written report and identify interesting new foundations for further work. ZnAl/biocharhad the highest potential of removing ACT and can adsorb more than its weight of the pollutant(qmax > 1000 mg/g). The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and the pseudo-second-order kineticsmodel were best-fits in most cases (usually at R2 > 0.99 threshold). It was observed that the key mechanismsof ACT uptake are p-p interactions, hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interaction. For most of theadsorbents, a >30% ACT removal efficiency was achievable after the 4 cycles. Effects as salting-out, electrostaticscreening, and accumulation of moieties at sorbent-sorbate interfaces due to the competitiveadsorption of ions and co-pollutants are profound in the uptake of ACT from aqueous solutions. Futureperspectives were discussed in the area of process costing, adsorbent regeneration, mechanistic investigationsand fixed-bed column adsorption.
