Fabrication of Curcumin-loaded Gliadin Electrospun Nanofibrous Structures and Bioactive Properties

        Perihan Kubra Akman,Fatih Bozkurt,Mohammed Balubaid,Mustafa Tahsin Yilmaz 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.6

In this work, the feasibility and potential of food-grade gliadin nanofiber as a delivery vehicle for curcumin wereinvestigated. By optimizing the electrospinning parameters, homogeneous and fine gliadin nanofibers containing differentamounts of curcumin were fabricated. It was observed that gliadin micro-nanoparticles were gradually transformed to gliadinnanofibers and thicker nanofibers were obtained with the increment of the gliadin concentration. The electrospun nanofiberswere characterized in terms of morphological, molecular, thermal and crystallographic properties. Nanofibers were nearlyuniform with smooth surface characteristics and their average diameter ranged between 258 to 375 nm. Encapsulationefficiency of gliadin nanofibers increased with the increment of curcumin loading, which was also confirmed by X-raydiffraction patterns revealing that the most part of curcumin could be encapsulated in gliadin nanofibers. In vitro assessmentsof nanofibers indicated that the curcumin-loaded gliadin nanofibers showed a controlled release of curcumin and protected itsfree radical scavenging ability. In addition, these nanofibers showed important levels of antibacterial activities againstStaphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Furthermore, the encapsulation of curcumin within nanofibers conspicuouslyenhanced the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of curcumin within these nanofibers. The results suggested that thegliadin nanofiber could be an available carrier for the delivery of curcumin and has the potential for applications in the foodindustry and other bioactive delivery systems.

Controlling the distribution of oxygen functionalities on GO and utilization of PEDOT:PSS-GO composite as hole injection layer of a solution processed blue OLED

        Halide Diker,Gamze Belkıs Durmaz,Hakan Bozkurt,Fatih Yes¸ il,Canan Varlikli 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.4

Graphene oxide (GO) was synthesis by Tour method. Particle size distribution effects of raw graphite on the resulting structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of GO samples and their poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) composites are studied for the graphite particle distributions of <150, 45e75 and 25e45 mm. It is determined that particle size of raw graphite have an impact on oxidation degree, the chemical nature of oxygen functional groups on GO and it also affects the lateral size of obtained GO. PEDOT:PSS-GO composites are utilized as hole injection layer (HIL) in a solution process blue organic light emitting diode. Presence of GO caused negative differential resistance (NDR) and NDR intensity was decreased with the decrease in lateral size of GO, increase in the graphite particle size and carboxyl% of obtained GO. All PEDOT:PSS-GO composite based devices presented better performance than the bare PEDOT:PSS based reference device. The maximum luminous and external quantum efficiency values of the device that contain HIL of PEDOT:PSS-GO(150) were more than 40% and 50% higher than that of the reference, respectively. Two folds of increase in these performance values were able to be reached with the concentration optimization of GO/150 in PEDOT:PSS.

Assessment of Proportion of Hidden Patients Having Symptoms of Overactive Bladder and Why Has It Been Hidden in Female Outpatients Admitted to Hospital

        Oktay Üçer,Ömer Demir,Mehmet Fatih Zeren,Yasin Ceylan,İlker Çelen,Ali Ersin Zümrütbaş,Gökhan Temeltaş,Ozan Bozkurt,Bülent Günlüsoy,Orçun Çelik,Gökhan Ekin,Oğuz Mertoğlu,Aegean Study Group of Society o 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2016 International Neurourology Journal Vol.20 No.1

Purpose: To determine the proportion of patients with undetected symptoms of overactive bladder by using the overactive bladder-validated 8 (OAB-V8) screening questionnaire and investigate these symptoms were undetected in female patients who were hospitalized. Methods: We invited 2,250 female patients hospitalized in the Aegean region of Turkey to answer a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions on evidence of lower urinary tract symptoms (OAB-V8), relevant medical history, and demographic data. Patients with a total OAB-V8 score≥8 were defined as having OAB symptoms. Results: The proportion of patients with OAB symptoms in this study was 40.6%. Nearly 57% of the patients with OAB symptoms had not been previously admitted to any hospital for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The two most common reasons why women with OAB symptoms did not admit themselves to a hospital because of LUTS were as follows: “I did not think I had a disease” and “The symptoms did not bother me,” with a response rate of 74.7%. The mean OAB-V8 scores of the patients with these two responses were significantly lower than those of the other patients (P<0.001). Conclusions: This is the first study to demonstrate a significant proportion of women with undetected OAB symptoms. The main reasons the women did not admit themselves to a hospital were their unawareness of the disease and because the LUTS were not bothersome. Public awareness programs on this disease may resolve this problem.

Infections of Larval Stages of Dicrocoelium dendriticum and Brachylaima sp. in Brown Garden Snail, Helix aspersa, in Turkey

Mustafa Kose,Mustafa Eser,Kur?at Kartal,Mehmet Fatih Bozkurt 대한기생충학열대의학회 2015 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.53 No.5

The aim of this study was to determine the presence and prevalence of larval stages of Dicrocoelium dendriticum and Brachylaima sp. in the first intermediate host, a species of land snail, Helix aspersa, in Turkey. A total of 211 snails were collected in April-May 2014 from pastures in Mersin District. Larval stages of D. dendriticum were identified under a light microscope. Hepatopancreas from naturally infected H. aspersa snails were examined histologically. The prevalence of larval stages of D. dendriticum and Brachylaima sp. in H. aspersa snails was found to be 2.4% and 1.9%, respectively, in Mersin, Turkey. Cercariae were not matured in sporocysts at the beginning of April; however, it was observed that cercariae matured and started to leave sporocysts by early-May. Thus, it was concluded that H. aspersa acts as an intermediate host to D. dendriticumin and Brachylaima sp. in Mersin, Turkey. A digenean trematode Brachylaima sp. was seen for the first time in Turkey.
