The need for highly reliable methods for the determination of trace metals is recognized in analytical chemistry and environmental science. A method based on the cloud-point extraction (CPE) technique for the trace analysis of Pb and Cu in water samples is described in this study. The analytes in the initial aqueous solution are complexed with pyrogallol, and 0.1%(w/v) Triton X-114 is added as surfactant. Following phase separation at $50^{\circ}C$, based on the cloud point of the mixture and dilution of the surfactant-rich phase with acidified methanolic solution, the enriched analytes are determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. After optimization of the complexation and extraction conditions, the enrichment factors of Pb and Cu were found to be 72 and 85, respectively. Under optimum conditions, the preconcentration of 60 mL of samples in the presence of 0.1%(w/v) Triton X-114 permitted the detection of 0.4 ${\mu}gL^{?1}$ of Pb and 0.05 ${\mu}gL^{?1}$ of Cu. The proposed method was applied successfully to the determination of Pb and Cu in water samples.

The adsorptive removal of hazardous materials of organophosphorus insecticides by adsorbents withhigh adsorption capacities is highly desirable. In this work, we present the removal of two representativeorganophosphorus insecticides, Dichlorvos and Metrifonate by two exceptionally stable Zr-based MOFsof UIO-66 and UIO-67. The MOFs were characterized by TGA, FTIR, SEM, XRD, BET and XPS analyses. Effectof some parameters such as adsorbent dose, contact time, pH and ionic strength on the removal efficiencyof Dichlorvos and Metrifonate were investigated. The mechanism of interaction was carefullyinvestigated by XPS and FTIR. The isotherm and kinetic data were accurately described by the Langmuirand pseudo-second-order models. The adsorption capacities in UIO-67 approached as high as571.43 mg g 1 for Dichlorvos and 378.78 mg g 1 for Metrifonate, which were much higher than UIO-66. Compared to other works this work has shown better adsorption capacity and cost efficient. Thecalculated removals for the samples are in the range from 97.8 to 99%, indicating that the UIO-67 can beapplied for removal of Dichlorvos and Metrifonate in real samples.

Sawdust–Fe3O4 composite was prepared by one step and biogenic approach using a single iron precursorand sawdust as both reducing agents and template. The selectivity of composite toward Au(III) and itsphysicochemical properties, increased by modification with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane andsynthetic ligand (3,5-dinitrobenzoylisothiocyanate); as the surface area and the adsorption capacityof sawdust, magnetic sawdust and modified composite were 4.24, 47.9 and 17.1 m2 g 1 and 3.2, 16.45and 188.68 mg g 1, respectively. Application of this selective sorbent for preconcentration of gold ionsfrom environmental solutions was investigated. The isotherm models and thermodynamic parametershave also been studied.

Polylysine–resorcinol coated alumina nanotube has been synthesized based on Mannich reaction. Synthetic polymer has been obtained using lysine and resorcinol as monomer and p-formaldehyde aslinker by condensation reaction. The nanosorbent was employed for cadmium adsorption from aqueoussamples. Effective parameters on sorption process have been optimized with Box–Behnken design (BBD). Equilibrium time was 11 min as well as adsorption capacity was 220 mg g 1. Regeneration of the sorbentwas performed with HNO3 solution (0.5 mol L 1). The accuracy of the method was evaluated bydetermination of cadmium in various real samples.
