        Quantum Codes from Cyclic Codes over $F_4 + vF_4$

        In this work, a method is given to construct quantum codes from cyclic codes over $ F_4 + vF_4$ which will be denoted as $R$ throughout the paper, where $v^2 = v$ and a Gray map is defined between $R$ and $F_4^2$, where $F_4$ is the field with $4$ elements. Some optimal quantum code parameters and others will be presented at the end of the paper.

        Investigation of bonding properties of denture bases to silicone-based soft denture liner immersed in isobutyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate

        PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the bondingn properties of denture bases to silicone-based soft denture liners immersed in isobutyl methacrylate (iBMA) and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) for various lengths of time. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) test specimens were fabricated (75 mm in length, 12 mm in diameter at the thickest section, and y mm at the thinnest section) and then randomly assigned to five groups (n=15); untreated (Group 1), resilient liner immersed in iBMA for 1 minute (Group 2), resilient liner immersed in iBMA for 3 minutes (Group 3), resilient liner immersed in HEMA for 1 minutes (Group 4) and resilient in HEMA for 3 minutes (Group 5). The resilient liner specimens were processed between 2 PMMA blocks. Bonding strength of the liners to PMMA was compared by tensile test with a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 5mm/min. Data were evaluated by 1-way ANOVA and post hot Tukey-Kramer multiple comparisons tests (α=0.05). RESULTS. The highest mean value of force was observed in Group 3 sepcimens. The differences between groups were statistically significant (P<.05), except between Group 1 and Group 4 (P=.063) CONCLUSION. Immersion of silicone-based soft denture liners in iBMA for 3 minutes doubled the tensile bond strength between the silicone soft liner and PMMA denture based materials compared to the control group.

        Synergistic effects of sono-alkaline pretreatment on anaerobic biodegradability of waste activated sludge

        The individual and combined effects of alkaline and ultrasonic pretreatment on both physical and chemical properties and anaerobic biodegradability of waste activated sludge (WAS) were investigated comprehensively in this study. The experimental results showed that both disintegration and anaerobic biodegradability of WAS were significantly improved by the combination of alkaline and ultrasonic (sono-alkaline) pretreatment. Besides, it was determined that the hydraulic retention time in anaerobic digester can be shortened by half using this combined pretreatment. However, it was also determined that sono-alkaline pretreatment was not feasible economically due to its high energy requirement.

        Clinical and Radiological Results of Microsurgical Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion and Decompression without Posterior Instrumentation for Lateral Recess Stenosis

        Study Design: A single-center, retrospective patient review of clinical and radiological outcomes of microsurgical posterior lumbar interbody fusion and decompression, without posterior instrumentation, for the treatment of lateral recess stenosis. Purpose: This study documented the clinical and radiological results of microsurgical posterior lumbar interbody fusion and decompression of the lateral recess using interbody cages without posterior instrumentation for the treatment of lateral recess stenosis. Overview of Literature: Although microsurgery has some advantages, various complications have been reported following microsurgical decompression, including cage migration, pseudoarthrosis, neurologic deficits, and persistent pain. Methods: A total of 34 patients (13 men, 21 women), with a mean age of 56.65±9.1 years (range, 40–77 years) confirmed spinal stability, and preoperative radiological findings of lateral recess stenosis, were included in the study. Interbody polyetheretherketone cages and auto grafts were used in all patients. Posterior instrumentation was not used because of limited resection of the posterior lumbar structures. Preoperative and postoperative radiographs, computed tomography scans, and magnetic resonance imaging were assessed and compared to images taken at the final follow-up. Functional recovery was also evaluated according to the Macnab criteria at the final follow-up. Results: The average follow-up time was 35.05±8.65 months (range, 24–46 months). The clinical results, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and duration of hospital stay were similar to previously published results; the fusion rate (85.2%) was decreased and the migration rate (5.8%) was increased, compared with prior reports. Conclusions: Although microsurgery has some advantages, migration and pseudoarthrosis remain challenges to achieving adequate lumbar interbody fusion.

        Meningocele with Cervical Dermoid Sinus Tract Presenting with Congenital Mirror Movement and Recurrent Meningitis

        Dermoid sinuses and meningoceles are seldom encountered in the cervical region. Besides, to the best of our knowledge, the coexistence of these types of congenital abnormalities with recurrent meningitis, as well as with mirror movement, has never been reported before. A 14-year-old female with the diagnosis of recurrent meningitis was referred to our clinic from the Department of Infectious Diseases. She had a cervical meningocele mass that was leaking cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) and an associated mirror movement symptom. Spina bifida, dermoid sinus and meningocele lesions were demonstrated at the C2 level on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She underwent an operation to remove the sinus tract together with the sac, and at the same time the tethered cord between the sac base and the distal end of the spinal cord was detached. The diagnosis of dermoid sinus and meningocele was confirmed histopathologically. These kinds of congenital pathologies in the cervical region may also predispose the patient to other diseases or symptoms. Herein, a case of meningocele associated with cervical dermoid sinus tract which presented with recurrent meningitis and a rare manifestation of mirror movement is discussed. Neurosurgeons should consider the possible coexistence of mirror movement and recurrent meningitis in the treatment of these types of congenital abnormalities.

        A New Kind of Slant Helix in Lorentzian (n + 2)- Spaces

        In this paper, we introduce a new kind of slant helix for null curves called null $W_n$-slant helix and we give a definition of new harmonic curvature functions of a null curve in terms of $W_n$ in (n + 2)-dimensional Lorentzian space $M^{n+2}_1$ (for n > 3). Also, we obtain a characterization such as: "The curve ${\alpha}$ s a null $W_n$-slant helix ${\Leftrightarrow}H^{\prime}_n-k_1H_{n-1}-k_2H_{n-3}=0$" where $H_n,H_{n-1}$ and $H_{n-3}$ are harmonic curvature functions and $k_1,k_2$ are the Cartan curvature functions of the null curve ${\alpha}$.

        Electrocoagulation of Disperse Dyebath Wastewater: Optimization of Process Variables and Sludge Production

        This study was conducted to investigate the effect of initial pH, current density, and electrolysis time on process performance in terms of decolorization and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal from disperse dyebath wastewater (DDW) by mono-polar parallel laboratory scale electrocoagulation (EC) process. COD reduction of 51.3% and decolorization of 92.8% were obtained with operating cost of 0.19 €/㎥ treated wastewater for Al-Al electrode pair, while 90.5% of decolorization and 49.2% of COD reduction were obtained with operating cost of 0.20 €/㎥ treated wastewater for an Fe-Fe electrode pair. The amount of sludge production were highly related to type of the electrode materials. At the optimum conditions, the amount of sludge produced were 0.18 kg/㎥ and 0.28 kg/㎥ for Al-Al and Fe-Fe electrode pairs, respectively. High decolorization can be explained by the hydrophobic nature of the disperse dye, while limited COD removal was observed due to the high dissolved organic matter of the DDW based on auxiliary chemicals. Energy, electrode, and chemical consumptions and sludge handling were considered as major cost items to find a cost-effective and sustainable solution for EC. The contribution of each cost items on operating cost were determined as 10.0%, 51.1%, 30.5% and 8.4% for Al-Al, and they were also determined as 9.0%, 38.0%, 40.5% and 12.5% for Fe-Fe, respectively. COD reduction and decolorization were fitted to first-order kinetic rule.

        Treatment of reactive dyebath wastewater by electrocoagulation process: Optimization and cost-estimation

        Reactive dyestuff is commonly used in the textile industry. Reactive dyebath wastewater (RDW) was treated with a batch, monopolar, parallel lab scale electrocoagulation process (EC) having 0.042m2 effective electrode area. The effects of process parameters, such as initial pH, current density and electrolysis period on COD and color removal efficiency, were investigated by using response surface methodology (RSM). At the optimal conditions, 85.8% color and 76.9% COD removal were obtained with 1.84 €/m3 operating cost for Al electrode, while 92.0% decolorization and 80.9% COD removal were obtained with 1.56 €/m3 operating cost for an iron electrode. The iron electrode was found superior to aluminum as a sacrificial anode material in terms of COD and color removal with low cost. The cost of electrical energy, electrode, and chemical consumptions for electrocoagulation were considered to find an optimum and feasible solution. As a result, the operating cost consists of approximately 2% for energy, 28% for electrode and 70% for chemical consumption for both electrodes. Based upon the data, it is clearly seen that operating cost covers mostly for HCI to adjust pH due to the high pH and alkalinity of RDW, which was neglected in many studies. The first-order reaction kinetics with a higher slope for the color were well fitted, resulting in faster color removal than that of COD for both electrodes.
