Evaluation of Biological and Biochemical Quality of Whey Protein

Fabiano Kenji Haraguchi,Maria Lucia Pedrosa,Heberth de Paula,Rinaldo Cardoso dos Santos,Marcelo Eustaquio Silva 한국식품영양과학회 2010 Journal of medicinal food Vol.13 No.6

Nutritional and biochemical properties of noncommercial whey protein have been described since 1950. However, comparisons between commercial whey protein for human consumption and casein are rarely found. The aim of this study was to compare biological quality of a commercial whey protein with casein and its effect on biochemical parameters of rats. Thirty-two weanling Fisher rats were divided into three groups and given the following diets: casein group, standard diet (AOAC); whey protein group, modified AOAC diet with whey protein instead of casein; and casein:whey group, modified AOAC diet with 70%:30% casein:whey. A protein-free group was used for determination of endogenous nitrogen losses. Net protein ratio, protein efficiency ratio, and true digestibility were determined, and blood was collected for biochemical analysis. When compared with casein, whey protein showed significant differences for all biological parameters evaluated, as well as for albumin, total protein, total cholesterol, and glucose concentrations. Replacing 30% of casein with whey protein did not affect these parameters. A positive relation among whey protein, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and paraoxonase activity was found. Hepatic or renal dysfunctions were not observed. In conclusion, in comparison with casein, commercial whey protein had higher values of biological parameters, and biochemical evaluation revealed it improved glycemic homeostasis, lipid status, and paraoxonase activity in rats.

Banco do Brasil – Individual Entity Customer Satisfaction with the Digital Relationship Model

Fabiano Mattana,Luís Felipe Maldaner,Guilherme Luis Roeche Vaccaro,Luciano Mattana 세계과학도시연합 2019 World Technopolis Review Vol.8 No.2

The main objective of this study was to investigate the customer’s satisfaction level with the digital relationship model of Banco do Brasil Exclusive Business Offices situated in Rio Grande do Sul. Banco do Brasil is one of the largest Brazilian and global financial institutions and conducted a restructuring customer’s relationship model since 2015, creating new specific service structures for certain segments, among them exclusive offices. This research had a qualitative step with an internal documentary analysis about the company and a semi-structured interview with manager’s offices, in order to check the strategy and the foundations of business model, as well as identify perceptions and the difficulties in implementing this new structure. The quantitative step held the findings about customer satisfaction level in relation to the quality of services provided by offices, through an electronic survey based on the Servqual Scale developed by Parasuraman et al. (1988), which measures the difference between customer’s expectations and perception in five dimensions: tangibility, reliability, understanding, safety and empathy. The results shown that Banco do Brasil customers´ are satisfied with services offered through the digital model and the new business structure, in which is offered a humanized service together with the best technology. It was found, also, that digital probably would not replace the physical world, but they complement one another. Digital offices and physical agencies will coexist, improving value proposition delivery and better customers experience, satisfy them and build their loyalty.

      • Measuring the Environment for Physical Activity in Early Childhood: A Narrative and Systematic Literature Review

Fabiano Camara,Stephen Berg,Brent Bradford,Sarah Hutchinson,Amanda Sardeli The Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Ass 2022 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.16 No.2

The aim of this study was to systematically review the protocols to assess the built environment in the context of early childhood and physical activity. Three databases were systematically searched for studies that examined associations between the built environment and preschoolers’ physical activity levels. A total of 27 studies were included in the analysis. Results show a clear distinction between approaches administered in the neighborhoods and childcare domains. Although Geographic Information Systems are employed in most studies in the neighborhood domain and have been understood as an objective approach, findings have indicated a lack of specificity regarding early childhood environmental variables, which can compromise protocols content validity. Further, although self-perceived approaches were found in only three studies, analysis of instrument content validity and cross-cultural adaptation also showed limited validation evidence. In the childcare context, the micro-scale built environment is a strong trend in customization of measurement protocols in early childhood. However, present findings have indicated the necessity for enhancements to validation procedures, particularly regarding internal consistency and content validity to develop needed customization. Therefore, future research should utilize more rigorous validation techniques to address the micro-scale built environment within the context of early childhood physical activity levels.

Response Surface Analysis for the Production of an Enantioselective Lipase from Aspergillus niger by Solid-State Fermentation

Fabiano Jares Contesini,Vania Castriani Fernades da Silva,Rafael Ferreira Maciel,Rosemary Joana de Lima,Francisco Fábio Cavalcante Barros,Patrícia de Oliveira Carvalho 한국미생물학회 2009 The journal of microbiology Vol.47 No.5

The lipase produced by the Aspergillus niger strain AC-54 has been widely studied due to its enantioselectivity for racemic mixtures. This study aimed to optimize the production of this enzyme using statistical methodology. Initially a Plackett-Burman (PB) design was used to evaluate the effects of the culture medium components and the culture conditions. Twelve factors were screened: water content, glucose, yeast extract, peptone, olive oil, temperature, NaH2PO4, KH2PO4, MgSO4․7H2O, CaCl2, NaCl, and MnSO4. The screening showed that the significant factors were water content, glucose, yeast extract, peptone, NaH2PO4, and KH2PO4, which were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) and a mathematical model obtained to explain the behavioral process. The best lipase activity was attained using the following conditions: water content (20%), glucose (4.8%), yeast extract (4.0%), and NaH2PO4 (4.0%). The predicted lipase activity was 33.03 U/ml and the experimental data confirmed the validity of the model. The enzymatic activity was expressed as µmoles of oleic acid released per minute of reaction (µmol/min).

Improving Safety of Neural Monitoring in Thyroid Surgery: Educational Considerations in Learning New Procedure

        Gianlorenzo Dionigi,Vincenzo Bartolo,Antonio Giacomo Rizzo,Massimo Marullo,Valerio Fabiano,Antonina Catalfamo,Francesca Pia Pergolizzi,Antonino Cancellieri,Giuseppinella Melita 대한갑상선-내분비외과학회 2018 The Koreran journal of Endocrine Surgery Vol.18 No.1

Literature on intraoperative neuro monitoring (IONM) during endocrine surgery have increased over recent years. A comprehensive understanding of the role of IONM for prevention of nerve injuries is critical to maximize safety during surgery of the anterior compartment of the neck. Neuromonitoring techniques are currently considered safe technique and technology; however, albeit sporadically, have been reported some complications and related side effects using such methods. The complications described can be related to the electrodes positioned at the larynx, at the obstruction of the endotracheal tube, the drugs used for anesthesia and the effects of electrical stimulation on nerve structures and systemic levels. This review will explore the safety issues of IONM to improve the outcomes among patients undergoing monitored thyroidectomy.

Comparative study of the digastric and the stylohyoid muscles between wild boars (Sus scrofa scrofa) and domestic swine (Sus scrofa domesticus): revisiting the gross anatomy

        Henrique Inhauser Riceti Magalhã,es,Jeferson Borges Barcelos,Fabiano Braz Romã,o,Tâ,nia Ribeiro Junqueira Borges,Roseâ,mely Angé,lica de Carvalho-Barros,Maria Angelica Miglino,Frederico Ozanam Carneir 대한해부학회 2021 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.54 No.2

Considering Suidae Familie as a perfect and viable experimental biomedical model for research applied to human medicine, it has been sought to describe the comparative anatomy of the digastric and the stylohyoid muscles between boars and domestic swine. Heads of Sus scrofa scrofa and Sus scrofa domesticus were dissected. The digastric muscle presented only one muscle belly as anatomical component of a tendinous origin in the jugular process of the occipital bone, and muscle insertion in the midventral edge of the caudal two thirds of the body of the mandible. Thus, its function is fundamentally associated with the lowering and the retracting of the mandible which, by the way, can deliver greater muscle power at lesser energy expense. For the stylohyoid muscle, the tendinous origin was in the laterocaudal edge of the dorsal third of the stylohyoid bone. The muscle insertion - primarily, was in the lateral and caudal edges from the mid third portion up to the ventral extremity of the thyrohyoid bone, and secondarily as a laterolateral aponeurotic blade which would unite, in a bilateral manner, an insertion that was common to the sternohyoid, the geniohyoid, and the mylohyoid muscles in a median ventral region. This morphology were similar to the two specimens studied expanding the information available, which were completely unknown for the suidae until the moment.

      • Investigation of the Influence of the Mineralogy on the Abrasive Wear of Some Granitic Rocks

( Maria Heloisa Barros De Oliveira Frasca ),( Eduardo Brandau Quitete ),( Fabiano Cabanas Navarro ) 대한지질공학회 2019 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2019 No.2

Rock abrasiveness, usually referred as the wear or loss of material which the rock produces on contact with another material such as TBM cutter or drill bit (ASTM D7625), may be extended to the cutting by the tools used in mining and processing of natural stone or even to the abrasive wear of floors or pavements by pedestrian or vehicles traffic. It is related to the rock type and the equipment or solicitation in use. The abrasiveness of granitic rocks, due to their higher hardness and heterogeneous mineralogy and structure, is in general difficult to predict and thus may cause delays or complications to drilling or cutting. In order to contribute to the forecasting of granitic rocks wear it was carried out a petrographic study accompanied by the determination of Knoop hardness and an abrasive wear laboratory test (Amsler) aiming at investigating the influence of the mineralogy on the abrasive wear this rock type. Granitic rocks (containing 0 % to 35 % of quartz, including granites, monzonites, gneiss and others) from Sao Paulo State, Brazil, were selected for this study. The results indicated that the Knoop hardness and the Amsler abrasive wear tend towards an inverse proportionality, or as higher is the hardness, lower is the wear. The Knoop hardness, particularly the average value, tends to higher values as the quartz and the equivalent quartz content increases. Relatively to the grain size, it was observed a tendency to the increase of hardness with the lower size of the quartz grains.

Prickly Palm Cactus Husk as a Raw Material for Production of Ligninolytic Enzymes by Aspergillus niger

Tamires Carvalho dos Santos,Nadabe dos Santos Reis,Tatielle Pereira Silva,Fabiano de Paula Pereira Machado,Renata Cristina Ferereira Bonomo,Marcelo Franco 한국식품과학회 2016 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.25 No.1

Prickly palm cactus husk was used as a solid-state fermentation support-substrate for production of the ligninolytic enzymes laccase, peroxide manganese, and lignin peroxidase by Aspergillus niger. Effects of water activity, temperature, and fermentation time on enzymatic production were evaluated using a central composite rotatable design. Response surface methodology revealed that maximum enzyme production was achieved at 73.38 h of fermentation, a water activity of 0.87 Aw, at 28.74oC for laccase, at 65.33 h, 0.89 Aw, and 28.96oC for lignin peroxidase, and at 70.44 h, 0.91 Aw, and 28.84oC for manganese peroxidase. Optimized enzyme production was 9,023.67 UI/L for laccase, 2,234.75 UI/L for lignin peroxidase, and 8,534.81 UI/L for manganese peroxidase. Thermostability and pH stability were observed for all enzymes. Enzymatic deactivation kinetic experiments indicated that enzymes remained active after freezing of crude extracts.
