이과계열 대학생들의 전공 관련 기대와 가치, 비용 인식에 기초한 동기 프로파일 분석

The current study conducted a latent profile analysis to explore the motivation profiles of college students based on the expectancy-value theory. It evaluated whether task procrastination, task persistence, major persistence, and school persistence varied based on students’ profiles. Based on expectancy, intrinsic value, future utility value, current utility value, social utility value, effort cost, opportunity cost, and emotional cost, a model with four latent profiles best fit our data. The first profile, comprising 25% of the participants, was the “high expectancy-value, and low cost” profile, which perceives all values high, but perceives cost low. The second profile “high expectancy- value-cost” comprised 18% of the participants. Participants within this profile perceived utility value higher than the expectancy and intrinsic values, and perceived high levels of cost in comparison to other profiles. In the third profile, “average expectancy-value-cost,” participants perceived expectancy and all types of values at an average level, Finally, participants in the “low expectancy-value, and high cost” profile perceived expectancy and value at a low level, but perceived future utility value and cost highly. The results showed participants in the “high expectancy-value, and low cost” profile showed lower academic procrastination, whereas higher academic, major, and school persistence compared to other profiles. This study is significant as it provides distinctions within utility value and identifies motivation profiles that influence college students' majors. 본 연구에서는 전공에 대한 이과계열 대학생들의 동기 프로파일을 파악하고자 하였다. 이에 기대-가치 이론에 근거하여 잠재프로파일 분석을 실시하였으며, 이어서 분류된 프로파일에 따라 학업지연과 학업지속, 전공지속, 학교지속에 차이가 있는지 검증하였다. 기대와 내재가치, 미래유용가치, 현재유용가치, 사회유용가치, 노력비용, 기회비용, 정서비용에 근거하여 잠재프로파일분석을 실시한 결과, 4가지 유형의 프로파일 모형이 자료에 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 첫 번째 ‘고 기대-가치/저 비용’ 유형에 해당하는 학생들은 25%였다. 이들은 모든 가치를 높게 인식하면서 비용을 가장 낮게 인식하였다. 두 번째 ‘고 기대-가치-비용’ 유형은 18%를 차지하였다. 이 유형의 학생들은 기대와 가치를 전반적으로 높게 인식하면서 비용도 높게 인식하였다. 또한 기대나 내재가치에 비하여 유용가치를 높게 인식하는 특징을 보였다. 42%를 차지하는 세 번째 유형은 ‘평균 기대-가치-비용’으로, 이 유형의 학생들은 기대나 모든 가치와 비용을 평균적으로 지각하였다. 마지막으로 16%를 차지하는 ‘저 기대-가치/고 비용’ 유형은 낮은 수준의 기대와 가치를 인식하는 반면, 미래유용가치와 비용을 높게 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. ‘고 기대-가치/저 비용’ 유형의 학생들은 다른 유형의 학습자들보다 학업지연을 덜하면서 전공공부와 전공, 학교에 대한 지속도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, ‘고 기대-가치/저 비용’ 유형을 제외한 다른 세 유형 간에는 학업지연과 모든 지속도에서 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 유용가치를 세분화하여 이과계열 대학생들의 전공에 대한 유의미한 동기프로파일을 도출하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Social environment is vital for optimal student learning particularly in online contexts. This study examined the mediating effect of classroom sense of community on the relationship between achievement goal related constructs (classroom goal structures and personal achievement goals) and learning experiences (course satisfaction and effort expenditure) in the online learning context. The participants were 164 students enrolled in teacher education online courses at a Midwestern comprehensive university in USA. The path analysis results revealed mastery goals (perceived classroom mastery goal structure and personal mastery goals) and classroom performance goal structure were positively and negatively associated with classroom sense of community, respectively, which in turn was positively associated with course satisfaction and effort expenditure. The results indicate that academic learning environment (indicated by classroom goal structure) influence course satisfaction and effort through the mediating roles of classroom sense of community.
