      • The Added-Value Metric -A Complementary Performance Measure for Six Sigma and Lean Production

        The Six Sigma and Lean Production methodologies suggest that creating value for customers is the objective of a production process or an organisation. In the production context, “added value” dominates the discussion about the creation of value to customers. However, “added value” is often only defined conceptually or discussed at a strategic level, and the link between added value and customer value has not yet been well conceptualised. Therefore, the purpose of the paper is to develop a methodology to measure added value in order to complement the existing performance measures in Six Sigma and Lean Production by conceptualising the link between customer value and added value. The conceptual link “confirms” that quality, time, and costs are the elements of added value, which are transformed into a metric to express customer value. The implementation of the metric recommends the adoption of Lean (Six) Sigma and Lean Accounting (Activity Based Costing), which thus implies that “leanness” is an important “feature” of added value.

        Community Development and Economic Welfare through the Village Fund Policy

        This study aims to investigate the implementation of village fund (VF) policy in Indonesia by addressing the following issues: (1) what is the VF policy; (2) factors that support and hinder policy implementation; (3) impact of policy implementation; and (4) model for implementing village fund policies that can improve community welfare. Through a descriptive qualitative-based approach, several indicators are measured, namely, the substance of implementing rules, the results of project implementation, supporting and inhibiting factors for policies, participation factors, and the impact generated by village fund policies, which include social and economic effects. The extraction of this information and indicators will lead this study to produce ideal models and propositions for quantitative confirmatory research as a future research agenda. This study was conducted in two villages (Mojomulyo and Tambakromo) in Pati District, Central Java, Indonesia. Data collection model using interviews and observations from all actors who play a role (e.g., village government, village supervisory agency, and community). The study results show that policies have been implemented by normative rules; there are several supporting and inhibiting factors both internal and external. The study results also confirm the relevance of the articulated theory and some comprehensive input to our study.

        Development of Interactive Mobile Learning Media on Teaching Terms of Mental Status Examination (MSE) for Nursing Students

        Mental status examination is an important stage in the assessment process because it serves as the foundation for establishing nursing diagnosis and intervention. Until now many students still feel difficult to understand the terms in the assessment of mental status. Interactive Mobile Learning in one of the media that is currently being developed. The use of this media will provide more in-depth learning opportunities, and students can practice their skills in carrying out practicals because of the mobility principle possessed by smartphones. The purpose of this study was to develop a smartphone-based app and evaluate the app's effectiveness by measuring nursing students' knowledge of mental status examination. Design: A randomized trial with a pre-and post-test design was conducted at a university in Indonesia. A total of seventy junior nursing students participated in this study. The intervention group received a smartphone-based app, and the control group received one-time lecture-based learning. We offered the experimental group the app and information about how to use it, and we encouraged them to use it. The control group received classroom instruction. Results: The intervention group scored significantly higher than the control group on knowledge score (t = 19.40, p = 0.000) and satisfaction with the learning method (t = 0.640, p = 0.021) Conclusion: These findings suggest that smartphone-based education could be an effective method in nursing education for teaching mental status examinations.

      • Selecting Improvement Projects that Add Value to Customers

        This paper presents a methodology to nominate and select improvement projects that are perceived as adding value to customers (both internal and external). The structure of the methodology can be explained in three “stages.” First, the methodology suggests a new way of categorizing improvement opportunities, i.e. reactive-proactive, to “upgrade” the little Q - big Q categorisation. Then, it develops a roadmap that links performance indicators and improvement projects for both reactive and proactive improvements. Finally, it suggests an algorithm to select the improvement project, where the assessment of to what extent the nominated improvement projects add value to customers relies on the comparison between Overall Perceived Benefits (OPB) and Overall Perceived Efforts (OPE). The improvement project perceived as having the largest impact on adding value to customers receives the highest priority.

        The Effects of Goal Orientation and Organizational Culture on Performance Appraisal of Employees

        The study aims to analyze the performance-prove goal orientation and organizational culture on employee work performance of performance appraisal by placing employee work motivation as an interning variable. The study was conducted on a quota sample basis with 134 employees and staff in educational institutions under the auspices of Islamic educational institutions in Banyuwangi, East Java, Indonesia. Analysis through structural equation modeling (SEM) was done, and results were obtined which showed that there is an influence of institutional culture on employee motivation and that there is an effect of employee motivation on performance appraisal. However, the statistical output showed that there is no significant effect of performance-prove goal orientation on employee motivation. In testing the mediating effect, the results showed the significant influence of employee motivation in bridging the relationship between organizational culture on performance appraisal, and performance-proven goals and performance appraisal. The theoretical contributions of the findings were in its examination of performance-prove goal orientation with motivational encouragement in educational institutions to analyze the extent to which an individual’s self-confidence was able to integrate patterns in distinguishing the approach used, how to use, and the response to a specific situation of directing toward organizational achievement.

      • A Navigation System for Service Robot using Stereo Vision and Kalman Filtering

        The objective of this paper is to propose a method for navigating a vision-based service robot using stereo vision and Kalman Filtering. We have develop modules for face recognition system, visual tracking and multiple moving obstacles avoidance using stereo camera. Someone that walks will be identified as moving obstacle and we propose a method to avoid the multiple moving obstacles. Kalman filtering for distance estimation using stereo camera used for stability of measurement and removing noise from the input images. To overcome the inaccuracies of vision sensor, Bayesian approach is used for estimate the absense and direction of obstacles. Algorithms for moving obstacles avoidance method proposed and experiment results implemented to a service robot also presented. Our system can overcome the drawbacks of popular obstacle avoidance methods because it provides a complete mechanism for a vision-based service robot so that it can avoid the moving obstacles.Various experiments show that our proposed method very fast, and successfully implemented to service robot called Srikandi III in our laboratory.

        Challenges and Opportunities for Agribusiness Development: Lesson from Indonesia

        This study aims to determine the technical aspects of organic food systems in rice agribusiness and analyze the pattern of economic and institutional structures of agribusiness in East Java of Indonesia. Also, this study investigates the feasibility of farming and understands the strategies of rice agribusiness development. This study was conducted in several places in East Java of Indonesia, covering the district of Blitar, Kediri, Bondowoso, Tulungagung, and Malang. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire and focus group discussion. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using efficiency analysis, revenues analysis, and SWOT analysis. The findings indicated that, technically, the district of Bondowoso, Malang, Kediri, and Tulungagung had implemented the organic systems, while the district of Blitar applied under semi-organic systems. The pattern of economic institutions of agribusiness commodity consists of the production facility, farming, post-harvest and product processing, marketing, and support services institutional. These results showed that the organic rice farming is economically viable, and the government support was provided in the form of the establishment of development centers, the facilitation of agricultural machines, integrated crop management field school, and the organic certification. These findings suggest that several places in East Java have prospective opportunities for production of rice agribusiness development.
