        Bias Correction and Trend Analysis of Temperature Data by a High-Resolution CMIP6 Model over a Tropical River Basin

        Technological advancements like increase in computational power have led to high-resolution simulations of climate variables by Global Climate Models (GCMs). However, significant biases exist in GCM outputs when considered at a regional scale. Hence, bias correction has to be done before using GCM outputs for impact studies at a local/regional scale. Six bias correction methods, namely, delta change (DC) method, linear scaling (LS), empirical quantile mapping (EQM), adjusted quantile mapping (AQM), Gamma-Pareto quantile mapping (GPQM) and quantile delta mapping (QDM) were used to bias correct the high-resolution daily maximum and minimum temperature simulations by Meteorological Research Institute-Atmospheric General Circulation Model Version 3.2 (MRI-AGCM3–2-S) model which is part of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6), of Netravati basin, a tropical river basin on the south-west coast of India. The quantile-quantile (Q–Q) plots and Taylor diagrams along with performance indicators like Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), the Root-Mean Square Error (RMSE) or Root-Mean Square Deviation (RMSD), the Mean Absolute Error (MAE), the Percentage BIAS (PBIAS) and the correlation coefficient (r) were used for the evaluation of the performance of each bias correction method in the validation period. Considerable reduction in the bias was observed for all the bias correction methods employed except for the LS method. The results ofQDMmethod, which is a trend preserving bias correction method, was used for analysing the trend of future temperature data. The trend of historical and future temperature data revealed an increasing trend in the annual temperature. An increase of 0.051 °C and 0.046 °C is expected for maximum and minimum temperature annually during the period 2015 to 2050 as per RCP 8.5 scenario. This study demonstrates that the application of a suitable bias correction is needed before using GCM projections for climate change studies.

        The creativity of thesis is that the significance of cyber security challenges in blockchain. The variety of enterprises, including those in the medical market, are the targets of cyberattacks. Hospitals and clinics are only two examples of medical facilities that are easy targets for cybercriminals, along with IoT-based medical devices like pacemakers. Cyberattacks in the medical field not only put patients' lives in danger but also have the potential to expose private and sensitive information. Reviewing and looking at the present and historical flaws and vulnerabilities in the blockchain-based IoT and medical institutions' equipment is crucial as they are sensitive, relevant, and of a medical character. This study aims to investigate recent and current weaknesses in medical equipment, of blockchain-based IoT, and institutions. Medical security systems are becoming increasingly crucial in blockchain-based IoT medical devices and digital adoption more broadly. It is gaining importance as a standalone medical device. Currently the use of software in medical market is growing exponentially and many countries have already set guidelines for quality control. The achievements of the thesis are medical equipment of blockchain-based IoT no longer exist in a vacuum, thanks to technical improvements and the emergence of electronic health records (EHRs). Increased EHR use among providers, as well as the demand for integration and connection technologies to improve clinical workflow, patient care solutions, and overall hospital operations, will fuel significant growth in the blockchain-based IoT market for linked medical devices. The need for blockchain technology and IoT-based medical device to enhance their health IT infrastructure and design and development techniques will only get louder in the future. Blockchain technology will be essential in the future of cybersecurity, because blockchain technology can be significantly improved with the cybersecurity adoption of IoT devices, i.e., via remote monitoring, reducing waiting time for emergency rooms, track assets, etc. This paper sheds the light on the benefits of the blockchain-based IoT market.

        VEHICLES FRONTAL IMPACT ANALYSIS USING COMPUTER SIMULATION AND CRASH TEST

        Reconstruction of car accidents is a complex task, with many unknown variables. Among the parameters used to assess the accident severity, in case of a frontal collision between two vehicles, are the change in velocity (delta-v) and the Energy Equivalent Speed (EES). The EES is usually determined based on the deformations. Delta-v can be obtained from the crash pulse recorded with Event Data Recorders, or with crash loggers based on accelerometers, in case of crash tests. In this paper is presented a full scale crash test that involves two vehicles in a frontal collision. The results are obtained using different analysis methods: direct application of a model, processing the measured crash pulse, and computer simulation.

        Numerical Study on Ultimate Deformation and Resistance Capacity of Bolted T-Stub Connection

        Disproportionate or progressive collapse is a phenomenon in which entire structure or large part of it collapses because of the local failure of a structure. Resistance to such progressive collapse depends on continuity between elements and ductility of the connections. The ductility of commonly used bolted end plate connections may depend on the T-stub component of the connection. The aim of this paper is to study the behaviour of T-stub components of beam to column end plate bolted connections under large deformation demands associated with column loss scenario. For this purpose, a parametric study is carried out to evaluate the ultimate strength and deformation capacity considering two parameters i.e. distance between the bolts and endplate thickness. Based on the experimental data, numerical model has been validated and employed in a parametric numerical study aimed at improving the response under large deformation demands. The study indicate signifi cant role of bolts in development of catenary forces since the ultimate tensile capacity of T-stub after undergoing large deformation in a ductile failure mode was controlled by the failure of the bolts. Parametric study reveals much higher bolt force in comparison with displacement controlled induced axial force in the T-stub indicating failure of the bolts at much lower applied axial force.

        Selective laser melted titanium implants: a new technique for the reconstruction of extensive zygomatic complex defects

        The restoration of extensive zygomatic complex defects is a surgical challenge owing to the difficulty of accurately restoring the normal anatomy, symmetry, proper facial projection and facial width. In the present study, an extensive post-traumatic zygomatic bone defect was reconstructed using a custom-made implant that was made with a selective laser melting (SLM) technique. The computer-designed implant had the proper geometry and fit perfectly into the defect without requiring any intraoperative adjustments. A one-year follow-up revealed a stable outcome with no complications.

        Comparative study on production, reproduction and functional traits between Fleckvieh and Braunvieh cattle

        Objective: Aim of the current comparative study was to evaluate production outputs, reproduction efficiency and functional traits in dual-purpose Fleckvieh and Braunvieh cows, reared under temperate European conditions. Methods: A data-set from 414 Fleckvieh and 42 Braunvieh cows and 799 lactations was analysed. ID tag number, milk yield per milking session, number of steps/interval and milk conductivity were recorded and collected daily using AfiMilk 3.076 A-DU software (Afimilk Ltd., Kibbutz, Israel). Production and milk quality data were taken from the results of the official performance recordings and the reproductive outputs of cows were recorded by the research stations veterinarians. Comparisons between the two genotypes were carried out using the one way analysis of variance protocol, with categorical factor being considered the breed of cows. All the statistical inferences were carried out using Statistica software (StatSoft Inc., Tulsa, OK, USA). Results: Fleckvieh cows significantly outperformed (p≤0.05) the Braunvieh herd, with average milk yields of 5,252.1±35.79 kg and 4,897.6±128.94 kg, respectively. Age at first calving was significantly (p≤0.01) influenced by the breed, with Fleckvieh heifers being more precocious (32.8±0.29 mo) compared to those of Braunvieh breed (35.7±0.84 mo). Reproduction efficiency as defined by the number of inseminations per gestation, calving interval, dystocia, days dry and days open, was not influenced by genotype (p>0.05). Incidences of sub-clinical mastitis, clinical mastitis, lameness and abortions were not influenced by the breed factor (p>0.05). Stayability of cows was significantly (p≤0.001) influenced by genotype, with Braunvieh cows having an average age at culling of 117.88±11.78 months compared to 90.88±2.89 months in Fleckvieh. Conclusion: Overall, results have shown that genotype significantly influenced milk yield, age at first calving and longevity.

        The effect of lavandula essential oils on release of niflumic acid from collagen hydrolysates

        The aim of this paper is to design and characterize some drug delivery systems (DDS) based on collagen hydrolysates (H), niflumic acid as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory model drug and two essential oils of Lavandula officinalis L. (LO) and Lavandula stoechas L. subsp. Stoechas (LS), for use in healing cutaneous wounds with post-lesion inflammatory response. The essential oils are characterized by GC-MS. The wettability capacity of collagen hydrolysate powders was assessed by contact angle measurement. Niflumic acid release was investigated using a modified Franz diffusion cell, and the diffusion coefficient, time-lag and drug flux were determined. The kinetic parameters were found to be influenced by different concentrations and types of essential oils. These therapeutical products, based on collagen hydrolysates and synergistic drug associations, could have potential biomedical application in wound healing treatment.
