Vol.- No.69
The ultimate purpose of this study is to perform a comprehensive analysis on how television dramas in South Korea shaped female characters and also carry out a research on the possibilities of changes in female characters of television dramas by analyzing the problems and side effects based on the aspect of genders and television drama with female characters that show new gender possibilities. Television dramas are not just a source of entertainment, as it is a medium that delivers and forms social culture and an important medium to build the identity of specific subjects. Accordingly, verifying female characters in television dramas and the basis about gender awareness are required for public narrative and also to create an intact image about female for the viewers in the sphere of influence. Television dramas must aim for mass appeal and commercial potentials while it is restricted by broadcasting review regulations where it must satisfy the sentimental and ethical standards of all the members of families. For this reason, it inclines towards a conservative tendency. Korean television dramas also claimed to advocate conservative gender awareness and it was criticized for a long time because it did not properly consider the changes in female image based on the change of times and set limits for women by imposing specific ideas and images. From the late 2010s, Korean television dramas started to evade from the former emphasis on a chain of adaptability and femininity within the patriarchal ideology and expanded on the possibilities of changes. Ever since the late 2010s, Korean television dramas showed a trend of gradual increase in dramas with the emergence of new female characters that were hard to find before, changes in the perspectives about how women are portrayed, and personification of new potentials about female narratives. For instance, < Witch at Court > not only reenacts femininity and masculinity subversively as it shows how cruel the Korean society is to women and explicitly denounces the 'life as a woman.' < Be Melodramatic > introduces unique female characters that are uncommon in Korean television dramas and personifies the possibilities of female microscopic narrative. < Miss Lee > confronts the sexist remark 'Miss Lee' and also points out social prejudice about women with low status and indifference. This drama shows the reality of an ordinary young 'woman' discounted as Miss Lee instead of being called by her name. Furthermore, the drama expresses the female character as a member of the society capable of managing her personal responsibilities and attempts to make a new approach about women.
Feature Selection for Steel Defects Classification
Vol.2010 No.10
In this paper, features of steel defects data are selected using a wrapper algorithm to increase classification performance. The data are constructed using images of steel defects which are classified two classes as defects and pseudo defects. The suggested algorithm selects features which are relevant to class using the kappa statistic. This measure is suggested to improve accuracy of minor class because steel defects data are highly imbalanced. The several algorithms were compared with the algorithm to show performances.

Guided bone regeneration (GBR) membrane is considered as a platform that can heal bone defects (i.e., bone regeneration) while preventing gingiva infiltration into the bone regeneration area. Despite of the variety of current GBR membrane materials such as collagen, fast absorption and low tensile strength as well as high cost are still critical problems in bone regeneration. To overcome these limitations, synthetic polymers (e.g., polycaprolactone (PCL), one of FDA-approved materials) are used, which could be an alternative to current collage-based GBR membranes. However, the poor properties of PCL (e.g. low bioactivity and hydrophobic properties) are limited to use as a GBR membrane for bone regeneration. To address this issue, we proposed a rational design of PCL-based GBR membrane using eggshell membrane proteins (ESMP) and nanotechnology. We developed aligned nanotopography-based PCL patches using capillary force lithography. And then, the PCL nano-patches were coated with ESMP. We showed that the ESMP coated PCL nanotopography-based patches could enhance various characteristics (e.g., mechanical and adhesive properties) and bioactivity (e.g., bone regeneration in animal models) compared to other control groups such as PCL flat-patch, PCL nano-patch, and ESMP coated PCL flat-patch.

Biological systems offer unique principles for the design and fabrication of engineering platforms (i.e., popularly known as “Biomimetics”) for various applications in many fields. For example, the lotus leaves exhibit unique surfaces consisting of evenly distributed micro and nanostructures. These unique surfaces of lotus leaves have the ability of superhydrophobic property to avoid getting wet by the surrounding water (i.e., Lotus effect). Inspired by the surface topographies of lotus leaves, the artificial superhydrophobic surfaces were developed using various micro- and nanoengineering. Here, we propose new platforms that can control hydrophilic and hydrophobic property of surfaces by mimicking micro- and nanosurfaces of various natural leaves such as common camellia, hosta plantaginea, and lotus. Using capillary force lithography technology and polymers in combination with biomimetic design principle, the unique micro- and nanostructures mimicking natural surfaces of common camellia, hosta plantaginea, and lotus were designed and fabricated. We also demonstrated that the replicated polymeric surfaces had different hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties according to the mimicking the natural leaf surfaces, which could be used as a simple, but powerful methodology for design and fabrication of controlled hydrophilic and hydrophobic platforms for various applications in the field of agriculture and biological engineering.
