Growth Opportunities, Capital Structure and Dividend Policy in Emerging Market: Indonesia Case Study

DANILA, Nevi,NOREEN, Umara,AZIZAN, Noor Azlinna,FARID, Muhammad,AHMED, Zaheer Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.10

The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of growth opportunities on capital structure and dividend policy in Indonesia. The study employs panel data of companies listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange that distribute dividends from 2007 to 2017. Fixed and random effect regression models are used. Findings based on growth opportunities on capital structure and dividend policy in Indonesia are in line with the existing theory (i.e., contracting theory). Growth opportunities have a significant negative correlation with debt ratio and dividend yield, which suggests that firms with high growth opportunities are discouraged to generate debt to resolve underinvestment and asset-substitution problem. Firms with more investment opportunities tend to adopt a low dividend payout policy because the cash flows will be used up for investment. The positive impact of firm size on leverage is due to the low bankruptcy risk and cost of a large company. Profitability has a positive impact on the dividend policy because profitable companies can reserve larger free cash flows and, thus, pay higher dividends. The positive influence of ownership on leverage is interpreted by the unwillingness of majority stockholders to commit to equity financing in order to avoid reducing the ownership and preserve control of the company.

      • Simple factor analysis of measured data

        Kozar, Ivica,Kozar, Danila Lozzi,Malic, Neira Toric Techno-Press 2022 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.11 No.1

Quite often we have a lot of measurement data and would like to find some relation between them. One common task is to see whether some measured data or a curve of known shape fit into the cumulative measured data. The problem can be visualized since data could generally be presented as curves or planes in Cartesian coordinates where each curve could be represented as a vector. In most cases we have measured the cumulative 'curve', we know shapes of other 'curves' and would like to determine unknown coefficients that multiply the known shapes in order to match the measured cumulative 'curve'. This problem could be presented in more complex variants, e.g., a constant could be added, some missing (unknown) data vector could be added to the measured summary vector, and instead of constant factors we could have polynomials, etc. All of them could be solved with slightly extended version of the procedure presented in the sequel. Solution procedure could be devised by reformulating the problem as a measurement problem and applying the generalized inverse of the measurement matrix. Measurement problem often has some errors involved in the measurement data but the least squares method that is comprised in the formulation quite successfully addresses the problem. Numerical examples illustrate the solution procedure.

Improved diffusing wave spectroscopy based on the automatized determination of the optical transport and absorption mean free path

        Chi Zhang,Mathias Reufer,Danila Gaudino,Frank Scheffold 한국유변학회 2017 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.29 No.4

Diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS) can be employed as an optical rheology tool with numerous applications for studying the structure, dynamics and linear viscoelastic properties of complex fluids, foams, glasses and gels. To carry out DWS measurements, one first needs to quantify the static optical properties of the sample under investigation, i.e. the transport mean free path l* and the absorption length la. In the absence of absorption this can be done by comparing the diffuse optical transmission to a calibration sample whose l* is known. Performing this comparison however is cumbersome, time consuming, and prone to mistakes by the operator. Moreover, already weak absorption can lead to significant errors. In this paper, we demonstrate the implementation of an automatized approach, based on which the DWS measurement procedure can be simplified significantly. By comparison with a comprehensive set of calibration measurements we cover the entire parameter space relating measured count rates (CRt , CRb) to (l*, la). Based on this approach we can determine l* and la of an unknown sample accurately thus making the additional measurement of a calibration sample obsolete. We illustrate the use of this approach by monitoring the coarsening of a commercially available shaving foam with DWS.

A Critical Role of PCSK9 in Mediating IL-17-Producing T Cell Responses in Hyperlipidemia

        김영욱,Patrick Kee,Delia Danila,Ba-Bie Teng 대한면역학회 2019 Immune Network Vol.19 No.6

We previously demonstrated that atherogenic Ldlr−/−Apobec1−/− (LDb) double knockout mice lacking both low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and apolipoprotein B mRNA-editing catalytic polypeptide-1 (Apobec1) had increased serum IL-17 levels, with T cell programming shifted towards Th17 cells. In this study, we assessed the role of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) in T cell programming and atherogenesis. We deleted the Pcsk9 gene from LDb mice to generate Ldlr−/−Apobec1−/−Pcsk9−/− (LTp) triple knockout mice. Atherosclerosis in the aortic sinus and aorta were quantitated. Lymphoid cells were analyzed by flow cytometry, ELISA and real-time PCR. Despite of dyslipidemia, LTp mice developed barely detectable atherosclerotic lesions. The IL-17, was very low in plasma and barely detectable in the aortic sinus in the LTp mice. In the spleen, the number of CD4+CD8− cells and splenocytes were much lower in the LDb mice than LTp mice, whereas, the IL-17-producing cells of γδTCR+ T cells and effector memory CD4+ T cells (CD44hiCD4+) in the spleen were significantly higher in the LDb mice than in the LTp mice. The Rorc mRNA expression levels were elevated in LDb mice compared to LTp mice. When re-stimulated with an anti-CD3 Ab, CD44hiCD4+ T cells from LDb mice secreted more IL-17 than those from LTp mice. T cells from LDb mice (with PCSK9) produce more IL-17 at basal and stimulated conditions when compared with LTp mice (without PCSK9). Despite the dyslipidemic profile and the lack of LDLR, atherogenesis is markedly reduced in LTp mice. These results suggest that PCSK9 is associated with changes in T cell programming that contributes to the development of atherosclerosis.

Factors Associated with Persistent Sputum Positivity at the End of the Second Month of Tuberculosis Treatment in Lithuania

        Diktanas, Saulius,Vasiliauskiene, Edita,Polubenko, Katazyna,Danila, Edvardas,Celedinaite, Indre,Boreikaite, Evelina,Misiunas, Kipras The Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory 2018 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.81 No.3

Background: Non-conversion of sputum smear and culture prolongs the infectivity of the patient and has been associated with unfavorable outcomes. We aimed to evaluate factors associated with persistent sputum positivity at the end of two months of treatment of new case pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Methods: Data of 87 human immunodeficiency virus-negative patients with culture-positive drug-susceptible pulmonary TB admitted to local university hospital between September 2015 and September 2016 were reviewed. Factors associated with sputum smear and/or culture positivity at the end of the second month of treatment were analyzed. Results: Twenty-two patients (25.3%) remained smear and/or culture-positive. Male sex, lower body mass index (BMI), unemployment, alcohol abuse, higher number of lobes involved and cavities on chest X-rays, shorter time to detection (TTD) on liquid cultures, higher respiratory sample smear grading and colony count in solid cultures, higher C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, and anemia were all significantly associated with persistent sputum positivity. However, in the logistic regression analysis only male sex, lower BMI, alcohol abuse, higher radiological involvement, cavitation, higher smear grading, higher colony count in solid cultures and shorter TTD were determined as independent factors associated with persistent sputum positivity at the end of 2 months of treatment. Conclusion: In conclusion, higher sputum smear and culture grading at diagnosis, shorter TTD, higher number of lobes involved, cavitation, male sex, alcohol abuse, and lower BMI were independently associated with persistent sputum positivity. These factors should be sought when distinguishing which patients will remain infectious longer and possibly have worse outcomes.

Bioactive Textiles Obtained by Using Aqueous Extracts of Vine Leaves

        Emil Ioan Muresan,Mariana Diaconu,Carmen Zaharia,Genoveva Rosu,Angela Danila,Aurel Pui 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.11

The vine leaves are an abundant by-product which is not fully valorized. This study reports the application of vineleaves, as a natural resource of dyes and chelating agents, in the sustainable process of dyeing and antibacterial treating of theviscose fabric. In order to increase the color intensity and to confer antibacterial properties to the textile materials, the dyedviscose fabric was treated with zinc acetate (by a post-mordanting procedure). The main quality indices of the aqueousextract of vine leaves (pH, density, acidity, and peroxide indices) and the total content of polyphenols and flavonoids weredetermined. The functional groups of the constituents from the aqueous extract fixed on the viscose fiber surface by dyeinghave been highlighted by FTIR analysis. The presence of zinc onto viscose fabric due to its chelating with the hydroxylgroups and carbonyl groups from polyphenols, flavonoids, and cellulosic species was confirmed by FTIR and EDX analysis. The antimicrobial activity of viscose samples dyed and treated with zinc acetate was evaluated against E. coli and St. aureusbacteria. The color fastness to washing, perspiration, and rubbing of dyed fabric samples was determined and evaluatedaccording to SR EN ISO standards.

Graphene nanosheet/polyaniline composite for transparent hole transporting layer

        Olga D. Iakobson,Oxana L. Gribkova,Alexey R. Tameev,Alexander A. Nekrasov,Danila S. Saranin,Aldo Di Carlo 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.65 No.-

Composites based on graphene and water-dispersible polyaniline-poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) complex were shown as materials promising for the development of hole transporting layers (HTLs). By using multimodal atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry and conductivity measurements, the relationship between the oxidation degree of graphene and the morphology, electrical conductivity and electron energy structure of HTLs was revealed. Utilizing the HTLs in organic solar cells it was shown that graphene nanostacks, rather than oxidized graphene nanostacks, enhanced the performance of the cells by increasing the roughness of the HTL surface, which caused the improvement of the short circuit current.
