An Exploratory Study of Experimental Sun Hat Designs
Stone, Janis,Kim, Jihyun,Branson, Donna H.,Peksoz, Semra 한국의류산업학회 2003 한국의류산업학회지 Vol.5 No.6
For persons involved in outdoor work or leisure activities protection is needed from the long-term effects of exposure to the ultraviolet-rays of the sun. Two experimental wide-brim hat designs were created to provide improved sun protection for the face, neck, ears, and head. These hat designs were evaluated by volunteer wear-study participants in the U.S. in the states of Iowa and Oklahoma for attractiveness, sun protection, comfort, fit, practicality, and likelihood of purchase after wearing. Wear-study participants considered both designs effective for sun protection. but other problems such as stability in the wind were a concern. Each design was judged to have acceptable features as well as ones to be improved. It was shown that concern for opinions of others was a major reason for acceptance of hat designs.

Determining those gaps in agricultural and other information to improve agrometeorological analyses for agriculture is a large task. The effective integration of appropriate data systems, including remote sensing systems, with agricultural systems modelling capability is described as a worthy outcome in this endeavour: Data issues, including those associated with data length, quality, maintenance, and archiving remain serious issues to be addressed. The role of remote sensing and geographic information systems in agrometeorology is important and is explored here. The value of simulation models to provide the synthesis for future agrometeorological requirements is further elucidated.

This paper investigates the relationship between FDI and trade in the Asia-Pacific economies by examining the bilateral flows of trade and FDI in a cross-sectional study. The estimation results based on the gravity model show a significant and positive relationship between trade and FDI, implying a complementary relationship. Estimated coefficients also imply that trade has a larger impact on FDI flows than such investment has on bilateral trade flows. It is evident that the distance between the home country and the host country is a significant resistance factor for trade, but not for FDI. The estimation results also suggest that the formation of APEC in 1989 has enhanced economic inter-dependence in trade, though not FDI yet, in the Asia-Pacific region.

The U.S. is currently in the midst of a serious debate about the future of immigration policy in the U.S. Any change has the potential to profoundly shape the circumstances of direct care workers and the demand for Long-Term Care LTC. Yet prior immigration reform debates and proposals have not considered workforce planning needs or contemplated immigration as a primary tool for managing labor markets. Historically, the U.S. has elected not to import lesser skilled workers for the purpose of employment because these workers compete directly with other vulnerable low-wage workers. Prediction of strong job growth in this sector, however, suggests a clear need to consider options that may include an immigration visa pathway to admission. Policies that limit the entry of low skilled workers may diminish the future labor pool of direct care workers in LTC. Options under exploration include 1) increasing pathways to legal status for undocumented immigrants; 2) increasing pathways for legal temporary workers with the option to offer extensions of stay or transitions to permanency; 3) pursuing an aggressive immigration strategy to permit an influx of low-wage workers to fill vacancies for direct care jobs; and 4) creating a new visa program for less-skilled, non-seasonal, non-agricultural workers. This latter option was proposed in Congress in 2013, but movement on any reforms has stalled.
