Chen, Xiang-Jun,Li, Nian,Huang, Ying-De,Ren, Shuang,Liu, Fang,Chen, Lian,Wang, Yong,Chen, Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2
Objective: To evaluate risk factors for gallstones after gastrectomy. Methods: To identify documents published from 1990 to 2011 the Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Springer Link, CBM and WanFang databases were searched and a meta-analysis was performed with RevMan 5.2 software for odds ratios and 95%CIs. Results: Fifteen studies were selected for the meta-analysis. The pooled ORs [95%CIs] were 0.56 [0.43, 0.73], (P<0.0001) for digestive tract reconstruction, 0.80 [0.54, 1.17], (P=0.25) for pylorus preservation, 0.33[0.15, 0.75], (P=0.008) for resection scope of stomach, 0.33 [0.15, 0.75], (P=0.008) for lymphadenectomy, and 0.13 [0.05, 0.33], (P<0.0001) for vagotomy. Conclusions: Digestive tract physical reconstruction and vagus nerve preservation can reduce the morbidity of gallstones after gastrectomy. Total gastrectomy can add to the morbidity of galltones as does increasing the degree of lymph node dissection. There was no significant difference in gallstones with or without pylorus preservation.

At present, multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable disease and cologenic cells may be responsible for disease relapse. It has been proposed that CD20+/CD138- NCI-H929 cells could be hallmarks of MM clonogenic cells. Here, the immunology phenotype of NCI-H929 cells is described. Only a small population of CD20+/CD138- cells (<1%) was found in the NCI-H929 cell line, but CD20+/CD138- cells were not detected. We found that CD20+/CD138+ cells were able to exhibit cologenic capacity by colony formation assay and continuous passage culture. Proteins were analyzed by 1D-SDS-PAGE and TMT based quantitative differential liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). 1,082 non-redundant proteins were identified, 658 of which were differentially expressed with at least a 1.5-fold difference. 205 proteins in CD20+ cells were expressed at higher levels and 453 proteins were at lower levels compared with CD20- cells. Most proteins had catalytic and binding activity and mainly participated in metabolic processes, cell communication and molecular transport. These results proved that there are different biological features and protein expression profile between CD20+ and CD20- cells in the NCI-H929 cell line.

Time-dependent density-functional theory molecular dynamics reveals an unexpected effect of optical excitation in the experimentally observed rhombohedral-to-cubic transition of GeTe. The excitation induces coherent forces along [001], which may be attributed to the unique energy landscape of Peierls-distorted solids. The forces drive the A(lg) optical phonon mode in which Ge and Te move out of phase. Upon damping of the A(1)g mode, phase transition takes place, which involves no atomic diffusion, defect formation, or the nucleation and growth of the cubic phase.

Correlations Between Serum IL33 and Tumor Development: a Meta-analysis
Chen, Xiang-Jun,Huang, Ying-De,Li, Nian,Chen, Min,Liu, Fang,Pu, Dan,Zhou, Tao-You Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.8
Background: Interleukin-33 (IL-33) has recently been implicated in tumor development. Methods: Data was obtained from PubMed, EMBASE, Clinical trial, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI and Wanfang databases. After quality assessment and data extraction, a meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.2 software. Results: There were eight documents included in this meta-analysis. The results showed IL33 levels to be higher in tumor patients than that in health people, but no correlations tumor stage, metastasis and survival time of tumor patients were evident. Conclusion: IL33 may be useful as an alarm factor in tumor detection and prognosis.

Objective: To investigate any association of the miRNA146a rs2910164 C>G polymorphism with head and neck cancer risk. Materials and Methods: The Medline, PubMed, PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, WanFang and CNKI databases were searched and a meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.2 software. Results: After searching and evaluating the literature, a total seven papers involving 2,766 patients with head and neck cancer and 6,603 healthy controls were included into this meta analysis. The results showed that there were no significant differences between patients and healthy controls overall for the miRNA rs2910164 C>G gene polymorphism (dominant model:OR=0.78, 95%CI:0.58-1.04, P=0.09; recessive model:OR=0.86, 95%CI:0.67-1.12, P=0.27;GG:CC:OR=0.75, 95%CI:0.52-1.08, P=0.12;GC:CC:OR=0.79, 95%CI:0.60-1.04, P=0.10). However, a significant association of miRNA rs2910164 C>G gene polymorphism with Chinese head and neck cancer risk was noted, limited to the dominant model (OR=0.68, 95%CI:0.50-0.95, P=0.02;GG:CC:OR=0.62, 95%CI:0.42-0.92, P=0.02;GC:CC:OR=0.72, 95%CI:0.520.99, P=0.04). Conclusions: miRNA146a rs2910164 C>G polymorphism is not associated with head and neck cancer risk in general, but tehre may be link in Chinese.

Background: Diallyl disulfide (DADS) may exert potent anticancer action both in vitro and in vivo. Although its effects on cancer are significant, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, we sought to elucidate possible links between DADS and pyruvate kinase (PKM2). Materials and Methods: $KG1{\alpha}$, a leukemia cell line highly expressing PKM2 was used with a cell counting kit (CCK)-8 and flow cytometry (FCM) to investigate the effects of DADS. Relationships between PKM2 and DADS associated with phosphorylation of EGFR, ERK1/2 and MEK, were assessed by western blot analysis. Results: In $KG1{\alpha}$ cells highly expressing PKM2, we found that DADS could affect proliferation, apoptosis and EGFR/ERK/PKM2 signaling pathways, abrogating EGF-induced nuclear accumulation of PKM2. Conclusions: These results suggested that DADS suppressed the proliferation of $KG1{\alpha}$ cells, providing evidence that its proapoptotic effects are mediated through the inhibition of EGFR/ERK/PKM2 signaling pathways.

Mesenchymal stem cells derived from humanumbilical cords (hUCMSCs) are attractive as a new cellsource for tissue engineering. It is essential to investigateand optimize the seeding process of these cells for thesuccess of cell culture and tissue regeneration in vitro. In thisstudy, a static seeding method (SSM), a centrifugal seedingmethod (CSM), and a novel method-cycling filtrationseeding method (CFSM) are evaluated in terms of seedingefficiency, cell damage, and distribution inside the scaffolds, cell proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation. Cells wereseeded on three-dimensional (3-D) nonwoven PET discs ata density of 1×104 cells/disc, followed by 21 days of cellculture and 20 days of osteogenic differentiation. Cellsgrown in 3-D conditions exhibited higher metabolic activitythan those grown on a 2-D control surface. The CSM andCFSM groups showed higher seeding efficiency, proliferationcapacity, and differentiation potential. H&E staining indicateda more uniform spatial distribution of cells in CFSMgroups. LDH level measurements suggested that more celldamage was caused by the CFSM process. Above all, theresults showed that the cells maintained their proliferationability and differentiation potential ex vivo during approximately7 weeks of culture. The CSM and CFSM arerecommended for hUCMSC tissue engineering, althoughthe seeding parameters still require further investigationand optimization.
