        Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emissions of non-road diesel engine treated with non-thermal plasma technology

        Non-road diesel engines are important polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) sources in the environment due to their high emission concentration compared to on-road diesel engines. Particle- and gas-phase PAH concentrations of a non-road diesel engine were investigated. Non-thermal plasma (NTP) as an effective after-treatment technology was used to reduce PAH emissions. The results showed that particle-phase PAH concentrations were 329.7 μg/m3, 3,206.7 μg/m3, and 1,185.7 μg/m3 without the action of NTP at three different engine loads respectively. Relatively low concentrations were measured for gas-phase PAHs. Excellent linearity was shown for particle-phase with total PAH concentrations both with, and without, NTP. The gas-phase PAH concentrations linearly increased with engine load without NTP. The five most abundant compounds of PAHs were among low molecular weight (LMW) and medium molecular weight (MMW) compounds. Total PAH cleaning efficiency was beyond 50% when treated with NTP at the three different engine loads. We hypothesized that naphthalene (Nap) concentrations increased greatly at 60% and 80% engine loads because it was produced within the plasma zone by decomposition of high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs. The PAHs content of particulate matter (PM) aggregation at 60% load was approximately three times higher than at 40% and 80% loads. High correlation values were observed for MMW PAHs with total PAH concentrations. Correlations of PAH concentration reduction could be important to clarify the PAH reduction mechanism with NTP technology.

        Stabilization of Nonlinear Switched Systems with Distributed Time-delay: The Discrete-time Case

        This paper investigates the stabilization problem of nonlinear switched systems subject to the distributed time-delay. The considered nonlinear switched systems are quite general whose dynamics are affected by bothexogenous noises and distributed time-delay. The purpose of the addressed problem is to propose a state feedback control law such that, the closed-loop system is exponentially stable in the mean square sense and meanwhile, therequired weighted L2 gain is achieved. By resorting to the Lyapunov functional method in combination with the average dwell time approach, sufficient conditions are provided for the existence of the desired control schemein terms of the feasibility of certain Hamilton-Jacobi inequalities (HJIs). Within the established framework, the required feedback controller gains can be obtained by solving the series of HJIs. Finally, an illustrative numericalexample is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed control algorithm.

        Antifungal activity of Streptomyces albidoflavus L131 against the leaf mold pathogen Passalora fulva involves membrane leakage and oxidative damage

        Passalora fulva (or Fulvia fulva) is the causalmicroorganism of tomato leaf mold, the outbreak of whichoccurs worldwide in greenhouse especially when humidityis high. However, studies on antifungal agents of P. fulvaare still very limited. In this study, a marine-derivedStreptomyces albidoflavus strain L131 showing potentinhibitory activities against P. fulva was identified andcharacterized. The active antifungal components wereobtained, and studies on the antifungal mechanisms of thecrude extract showed that the antifungal metabolites ofL131 caused damage of hyphae and spore development, aswell as plasma membrane of P. fulva. In addition, accumulationof endogenous reactive oxygen species of the leafpathogen was also observed after treatment by cultureextracts of L131. To our knowledge, this is the first reporton the studies of the antifungal mechanisms againstP. fulva, which benefit further development of biocontrolagent against tomato leaf mold disease.
