        A Study on the Determinants of Decommissioing Cost for Nuclear Power Plant (NPP)

        Nuclear power plants (NPPs) produce radioactive waste and decommissioning this waste entails additional cost; determining these costs for various types and specifications of radioactive waste can be challenging. The purpose of this study is to identify major determinants of the decommissioning cost and their impact on NPPs. To this end, data from defunct NPPs were gathered and 2SLS (Two Stage Least Squares) regression models were developed to investigate the major contributors depending on the reactor types, viz. PWR (Pressurized Water Reactors) and BWR (Boiling Water Reactors). Additionally, cost estimations and the Monte Carlo simulation were performed as part of performance validation. Our study established that the decommissioning costs are primarily influenced by the level of radioactivity in the decommissioned waste, which can be realized from operational factors like operation period, overall efficiency, and plant capacity, as well as from duration of decommissioning and labour cost. While our study provides an improved statistical approach to recognize these factors, we acknowledge that our models have limitations in forecasting accurately which we envisage to bolster in future studies by identifying more substantive factors.

        비만의 책임귀인 메시지와 감정이 정책지지와 건강행동의도에 미치는 영향

        This study is aimed at articulating the effect of responsibility attribution message and emotion on health behavior in obesity circumstance. This study also investigated possible mediating effects by including cognitive variables of theory of planned behavior. The study result showed differing effects of causal and solution responsibility attribution message constructed in terms of individual and societal level. Guilty feeling aroused the highest in individual responsibility attribution message while the highest anger aroused from societal responsibility attribution message. Guilty feelings gave rise to subjective norm and evoked positive attitude toward health behavioral intention. As anger got intense, perceived behavioral control became weaker and negative attitude was formed. This study incorporating emotion and policy support as a critical variable in health behavior, the practical implication to health communication message strategy was suggested in the hope of enlarging domain of strategic health communication.

        결속형, 교량형 사회자본과 커뮤니케이션 행위 특성이 음주운전에 미치는 영향

        Regarding social capital as an embedded individual trait, this study is aimed at articulating the effect of bonding and bridging social capital on drunk driving. This study also investigated possible mediation by including variables of communication behavior and theory of planned behavior. A nationwide survey was conducted for actual drivers from 18 to 65 years of age. The study result showed differing effects of bonding and bridging social capital on drunk driving and partial mediating effects of communication behavior and TPB elements on drunk driving as well. Those who are affluent with bonding social capital give rise to vivid interpersonal communication and affect TPB elements for not to drunk drive. In the trial of incorporating social capital study of public health upon the domain of communication study, the practical implication of this study that possibility of social capital being utilized as a new index of audience segmentation in health communication study was suggested.

      • Clinical Factors Associated with Circulating Tumor DNA Detection in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients with Lung Cancer

        Background Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at high risk of lung cancer development. Due to the higher rates of complications from invasive procedures for the diagnosis of lung cancer, detecting circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) might be useful in this population. Given the low sensitivity of ctDNA detection in early stage lung cancer, this study aimed to investigate the factors associated with ctDNA detection in COPD patients with lung cancer, to identify those who are most likely to benefit from ctDNA analysis. Methods A total of 174 patients with spirometry-defined COPD and newly diagnosed lung cancer were prospectively recruited from a single referral center. Plasma ctDNA were genotyped using targeted deep sequencing method. Demographics, comprehensive clinical variables regarding COPD and lung cancer were collected. We also measured emphysema index using chest computed tomography. Variables were analyzed using logistic regression. Results At least one ctDNA mutation were detected in 48(27.6%) patients (ranging from 6.8% in stage I to 62.5% in stage IV). In univariable logistic regression model, currents smoking, dyspnea (mMRC ≥ 2), lower emphysema index, C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor stage, and central tumor location were associated with ctDNA detection. In multivariable model, CRP and tumor stage remained significantly associated with ctDNA detection, whereas emphysema index could not meet the statistical significance (adjusted odds ratio 0.91, 95% confidence interval 0.81 - 1.00). Conclusion In addition to strong correlation with the tumor stages, we newly found an inverse relationship between emphysema and ctDNA detection in COPD patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer. While this might be attributable to impaired pulmonary vasculature in emphysematous lung, further confirmatory study is required to fully understand this signal.

        테플론 코팅과 오일 담지를 이용한 알루미늄 양극산화피막의 응축 열전달 향상

        Surface modification technique enabling the control of condensation provides various benefit in various engineering systems, such as heat transfer, desalination, power plants, and so on. In this study, lubricant oil-impregnation into Teflon-coated nanoporous anodic oxide layer of aluminum to enhance a de-wetting and mobility of water droplet on surface. Due to the surface treatment improving water-repellency, the condensation mode is changed to dropwise, thus the frequency of sliding condensed water droplet on surface is increased. For these reasons, the surface of oil-impregnated Teflon-coated nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide shows significantly enhanced condensation heat transfer compared to bare aluminum surface. In addition, the porosity of anodic aluminum oxide affected the mobility of water droplet even with oil-impregnation and Teflon-coating, indicating that the optimization of porous structure of anodic oxide is required for maximizing the condensation heat transfer.

        In this study, combustion and emission characteristics were investigated for both direct injection and port fuel injection in an LPG single cylinder spark ignition engine. The engine was operated over three different loads (2, 6, 10 bar of indicated mean effective pressure), fuel injection pressures(60, 90, 120 bar for DI, 7 bar for PFI), and air excess ratio(λ=1) at 2000 rpm. For IMEP DI type were more sensitive to fuel injection timing than PFI and showed higher thermal efficiency than that of PFI type except for 2 bar IMEP. The emission characteristics of DI type were also compared with PFI type. Hydrocarbon emission for DI type was approximately 10% lower than that of PFI type. Nitric oxides emission for both types was increased as the load increases. In addition, carbon monoxide emission for DI type was slightly decreased as the load increases.

        제품디자인을 위한 사용자 인지 감성 요인 평가 프레임워크 - 주방용품 사용자 경험 중심으로-

        연구배경 지난 수년간 제조업 중심 산업은 서비스 중심 산업으로 변하고 있으며, 이는 공급자 중심에서 소비자 사용자 중심으로 제품개발의 패러다임이 바뀌고 있음을 반증한다. 오늘날의 기업과 학제에서는 신제품 개발(New Product Development)에서의 사용자의 경험(User Experience)과 사용자의 인지, 감성 요인에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 하지만 대부분의 신제품 개발은 진보한 기술의 부족함 뿐 아니라, 제품을 사용하는 소비자 니즈의 이해 부족으로 인해 제품개발에 실패한다. 그러므로 사용자의 감성요인은 제품개발에 있어 아주 중요한 요소로 작용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 사용자의 인지 감성 요인을 분석하고 이를 제품 개발에 응용할 수 있는 시스템 및 평가 도구로 활용할 수 있는 프레임 워크를 설계 하고자 한다. 연구방법 문헌연구를 통해 제품에 대한 사용자 인지 및 감성어휘들을 조사하고, 이를 토대로 어피티니 다이어그램 매핑을 통해 5개의 감성 인지 모듈에 맞게 분류하여 사용자 인지 감성 프레임워크를 개발한다. 그리고 이 프레임워크의 검증을 위해 국내 주방용품 사용자/소비자를 대상으로 인지 및 감성 요인에 대한 설문조사를 실시하여, 사용자의 주방용품 구매 및 사용시 고려하는 인지 감성 요인을 분석하고 향후 사용자 인지 감성 정보지원 시스템 개발에 참고 자료로 활용한다. 연구결과 본 연구에서 개발된 사용자 인지 감성 평가 프레임워크의 실용성 검증을 위한 주방용품 사용자에 대한 설문 분석 결과, 개발된 인지 감성 평가 프레임워크는 사용자의 인지 감성 중요도, 각 모듈별 인지 감성 요인 분포, 제품과 인지 감성 모듈과의 상관관계, 인구통계학적 사용자 인지 감성 요인 등 사용자 인지 감성 요인에 대한 다양한 실증 분석 자료를 도출할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구에서 제안한 제품디자인을 위한 사용자 인지 감성 요인 평가 프레임워크는 디자인 실무에서 신제품 개발을 위한 사용자의 인지 감성 요인 평가의 중요한 척도로서 활용 될 수 있을 것이며, 향후 설계될 신제품 개발프로세스에서의 사용자 경험을 활용한 인지 감성 정보 지원 시스템 개발에 중요한 자료로 활용될 것이다. Background In the past few years manufacturing-centered industry has been turning into service-centered industry, reflecting the change of product development paradigm from supplier-centered to user-centered. Research on user experience, user cognition and emotional factors regarding new product development has been actively conducted in recent years, both academically and practically. However, most of new product developments fail not only because of insufficiency in technological advancement but also due to lack of understanding of consumer needs, especially of those whom actually use the products. Consequently, emotional factors of users are likely to act as essential elements of product development. Current research expects to analyze users` cognitive and emotional factors and utilize the results as evaluation tools for system development which can be applied to product development Methods Based on literature, cognitive and emotional vocabularies are investigated. Then the corresponding results serve as the basis for constructing affinity diagram through which user cognitive emotion framework is developed according to the five emotions. Furthermore, to verify the framework, a survey on cognitive and emotional factors is conducted targeting domestic users/ consumers of kitchen appliances. The analysis of cognitive and emotional factors of kitchen appliance users will be utilized as references for development of cognitive and emotional information support system. Result Results from a survey targeting users of kitchen appliances for verifying the practicality of the evaluation framework developed from the current research show that the framework is capable of deriving empirical analysis data on user cognition-emotion factors. These include the importance of user cognition-emotion, distribution of cognition-emotion factors for each module, correlation between products and cognition-emotion modules, and demographical user cognition-emotion factors. Conclusion The user cognition-emotion factor evaluation framework suggested in the present study for product design is expected to be utilized as an essential measure for estimating users` cognition-emotion factors. Results in turn can be used for new product development in the actual field of design business. Furthermore, the framework is also expected to be utilized as a critical reference for the development of cognition-emotion information support system based on user experience in the future planning of new product development process.

        Application of Cancer Genomics to Solve Unmet Clinical Needs

        The large amount of data on cancer genome research has contributed to our understanding of cancer biology. Indeed, the genomics approach has a strong advantage for analyzing multi-factorial and complicated problems, such as cancer. It is time to think about the actual usage of cancer genomics in the clinical field. The clinical cancer field has lots of unmet needs in the management of cancer patients, which has been defined in the pre-genomic era. Unmet clinical needs are not well known to bioinformaticians and even non-clinician cancer scientists. A personalized approach in the clinical field will bring potential additional challenges to cancer genomics, because most data to now have been population-based rather than individualbased. We can maximize the use of cancer genomics in the clinical field if cancer scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians think and work together in solving unmet clinical needs. In this review, we present one imaginary case of a cancer patient, with which we can think about unmet clinical needs to solve with cancer genomics in the diagnosis, prediction of prognosis, monitoring the status of cancer, and personalized treatment decision.
