A “SURE” Approach to Testing for Convergence in Regional Integrated areas: An Application to Output Convergence in Mercosur

( Mariam Camarero ),( Renato G. Flores ),( Cecilio Tamarit ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2008 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.23 No.1

In this paper we propose the use of a sequential multivariate approach to test for convergence. These tests allow us to reconcile the time series literature with the cross-sectional dimension which is basic when testing for convergence in regional blocs. In addition, this methodology helps to avoid the problem due to the limited dataset length. We apply multivariate unit root tests in two stages. First, we test for non-convergence without identifying the countries within the group that effectively converge and, in a second stage, the countries that converge are identified. The SURE technique allows for the existence of correlations across the series without imposing a common speed of mean reversion. The empirical results for Mercosur countries show that there is evidence of catching up of the small countries towards Brazil and, to some extent, Argentina. In contrast, the evidence of catching-up among the larger countries is weaker.

Three-dimensional Analysis of Two-way Fluid-structure Interaction on a Flexible Hydrofoil in Viscous Flow

Zahra Mortazavinia,Ricardo Camarero,Francois Guibault 한국유체기계학회 2018 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.11 No.3

Two-way Fluid-Structure Interaction of a three dimensional hydrofoil subjected to viscous flow at Re=750000 is investigated in this paper. A rectangular, cantilevered NACA66 hydrofoil is simulated using a finite element based CSD code, while the fluid flow is modeled with the incompressible, unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using a finite volume based CFD code. The numerical computations are carried out through a strong coupling between these two separate solvers. The strongly coupled FSI solver is validated by comparing the present numerical results with experimental measurements in a water tunnel at the French Naval Academy. To quantify the FSI effects, rigid (stainless steel) and flexible (POM Poly-acetate) hydrofoils with the same undeformed geometry are simulated and compared.

Unstructured Grid Smoothing for Turbomachinery Applications

Falsafioon, Mehdi,Arabi, Sina,Camarero, Ricardo,Guibault, Francois Korean Society for Fluid machinery 2017 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.10 No.4

In the present study, two mesh smoothing techniques, Laplace and Winslow smoothing techniques, for unstructured grids on turbomachinery application are investigated. These operators are based on the solution of elliptic equations. In the first case, Laplace's equations are solved using a barycentric averaging procedure. Solution of Winslow's equations has been a challenging work for unstructured grids because of existence of cross derivative terms in the equations. This issue is addressed devising a local control volume. Both methods are compared using different grid quality criteria. Finally, these operators have been applied to turbomachinery configurations and the advantages and disadvantages are discussed.

        Numerical Simulation of Industrial Boilers

        McKenty, F .,Gravel, L .,Camarero, R . 한국화학공학회 1999 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.16 No.4

The numerical simulation of combustion aerodynamics is a topic that has been generating much interest in the past few years. Much research has been devoted to this field since the late 1960's, and many models of varying complexity were developed. However, most of the computational effort was devoted to the validation of these various models on experimental geometries. Furthermore, most of these models were only available within the framework of research codes : commercial CFD software offered only the most basic of models to their users. In recent years, with the advent of more powerful and affordable workstations, the feasibility of treating very large coupled problems became a reality. Consequently, the incentive for commercial CFD code developers to apply their product to the simulation of industrial combustion phenomena brought about a lot of activity in this field. The result was the possibility to include sophisticated modelling of this complex physical phenomena within the framework of commercial codes designed to solve flows in very large and complex geometries. This presentation will endeavour to show that by interfacing a commercial CFD package (Star-CD) with a research combustion model library we were able to successfully simulate several different types of industrial boilers and incinerators fired with different types of fuels (gas, oil, wood). Though precise measurements inside industrial boilers are difficult to obtain, comparisons with measurements taken at the various outlets show good agreement with the predicted values. Furthermore, the simulations predicted trouble spots within the apparatus that were in close agreement with the manufacturer's field observations. In short, the numerical simulation of industrial combustion is not only qualitative, in the sense that it can correctly predict trends, but is well on its way to being quantitatively correct.

Photomodulation of Protein Trans-Splicing Through Backbone Photocaging of the DnaE Split Intein

        Berrade, Luis,Kwon , Youngeun,Camarero, Julio A. WILEY-VCH Verlag 2010 Chembiochem Vol.11 No.10

<B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>Lightly spliced inteins: A novel strategy to modulate the assembly and trans-splicing activity of the Ssp DnaE split intein was achieved by introducing two photolabile protecting groups onto the backbone of the C-intein polypeptide. This modification was not only able to efficiently block the trans-splicing activity, but also reduce significantly the binding affinity constant between the C- and N-intein fragments. The original activity of the wild-type split intein could be fully recovered by brief exposure to UV light. <img src='wiley_img_2010/14394227-2010-11-10-CBIC201000157-content.gif' alt='wiley_img_2010/14394227-2010-11-10-CBIC201000157-content'> </P>
