Field-induced Staggered Moment Stabilization in Frustrated Quantum Magnets

Burkhard Schmidt,Mohammad Siahatgar,Peter Thalmeier 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.10

For low-dimensional frustrated quantum magnets, the dependence of the staggered moment on a magnetic field is nonmonotonic: For small and intermediate fields, quantum fluctuations are gradually suppressed, leading to an increase of the staggered moment as a function of the field strength. For large applied magnetic fields, the classically expected field dependence is recovered, namely a monotonous decrease with increasing field strength. The staggered moment is eventually suppressed when reaching the fully polarized state at the saturation field. The quantitative analysis of this behavior is an excellent tool to determine the frustration parameter of a magnetic compound. We have developed a general finite-size scaling scheme for numerical exact-diagonalization data of low-dimensional frustrated magnets, which we apply to the recently measured field dependence of the magnetic neutron scattering intensity of Cu(pz)2(ClO4)2 in the framework of the S = 1/2 twodimensional (2D) J1-J2 Heisenberg model. We also apply linear spin-wave theory to complement our numerical findings. Our results show that Cu(pz)2(ClO4)2 is a quasi-2D antiferromagnet with intermediate frustration J2/J1 = 0.2.

Magnetic Moment Screening in the Correlated Kondo Lattice Model

Peter Thalmeier,Mohammad Siahatgar,Burkhard Schmidt,Gertrud Zwicknagl 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.10

The local moments, magnetic correlations and susceptibility in the 2D half-filled correlated Kondo lattice model are studied. We calculate their dependence on the control parameters given by local exchange coupling JK and Coulomb repulsion U. Exact diagonalization (ED) approach for ground state properties as well as finite temperature Lanczos method (FTLM) for the uniform susceptibility are employed for small tiles on the square lattice. The competition of on-site screening and induced inter-site correlations leads to non-monotonic local moment dependence on U for weak Kondo coupling JK. In the large U limit the numerical results are compared to those of the analytical bond operator method in mean field treatment. The variation of the Kondo temperature scale with U is obtained from the temperature dependence of the susceptibility. A monotonic increase with U is found.

Transformational Leadership and Depressive Symptoms in Germany: Validation of a Short Transformational Leadership Scale

        Max Leonhard Seegel,Raphael M. Herr,Michael Schneider,Burkhard Schmidt,Joachim E. Fischer 대한예방의학회 2019 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.52 No.3

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to validate a shortened transformational leadership (TL) scale (12 items) comprising core TL behaviour and to test the associations of this shortened TL scale with depressive symptoms. Methods: The study used cross-sectional data from 1632 employees of the overall workforce of a middle-sized German company (51.6% men; mean age, 41.35 years; standard deviation, 9.4 years). TL was assessed with the German version of the Transformational Leadership Inventory and depressive symptoms with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The structural validity of the core TL scale was assessed with confirmatory factor analysis. Associations with depressive symptoms were estimated with structural equation modelling and adjusted logistic regression. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling showed better model fit for the core TL than for the full TL score. Logistic regression revealed 3.61-fold (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.20 to 5.93: women) to 4.46-fold (95% CI, 2.86 to 6.95: men) increased odds of reporting depressive symptoms (HADS score >8) for those in the lowest tertile of reported core TL. Conclusions: The shortened core TL seems to be a valid instrument for research and training purposes in the context of TL and depressive symptoms in employees. Of particular note, men reporting poor TL were more likely to report depressive symptoms.
