<P>Herein, we evaluate the detailed insertion mechanism of aluminum ions into the Mo6S8 Chevrel phase in the 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroaluminate ionic liquid through combined structural and electrochemical characterization. This involves two-step two-phase insertion reactions, where the first and the second step account for 3/4 and 1/4 of the total reversible capacity, respectively. During the first step, aluminum ions occupy the inner ring sites in the Chevrel phase, forming AlMo6S8 with a higher activation energy for cation diffusion. Subsequently, Al4/3Mo6S8 emerges as a discharge product during the second step, where one aluminum ion fills one outer ring site in every three AlMo6S8 units. The diffusion coefficient for aluminum ions through the Chevrel phase was found much lower than that of lithium or magnesium ions, reflecting the difficulties in redistributing trivalent charge carried by each aluminum ion. <P> Metabotropic glutamate receptor type 1 (mGluR1) is related with various neurological and psychiatric diseases, such as anxiety, depression, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and neuropathic pain. Hence, mGluR1 is an important target for drug development and imaging. We synthesized [18F]cEFQ (3-ethyl-2-[18F]fluoroquinolin-6-yl cis-(4-methoxycyclohexyl)methanone) as a PET tracer for selective mGluR1 imaging and evaluated its properties in rodents. A chloroquinoline precursor was labeled by a nucleophilic substitution reaction, and the resulting [18F]cEFQ was obtained with high radiochemical purity (>99%) and specific activity (63-246 GBq/µmol). The log D value was 3.24, and the initial brain uptake at 10 min was over 4% of injected dose per gram in BALB/c mice. According to PET/CT and autoradiography in SD rats, [18F]cEFQ showed wide distribution in the whole brain and the highest uptake in the cerebellum. Pre-treatment with unlabeled cEFQ or the mGluR1-specific antagonist JNJ16259685 blocked the uptake of [18F]cEFQ. However, the uptake was not blocked by pre-treatment with the mGluR5-specific antagonist ABP688. The trans isomer [18F]tEFQ did not show high uptake in the mGluR1-rich region. [18F]cEFQ was straightforwardly prepared using a chloro-derivative precursor. Its feasibility as a specific and selective PET agent for imaging mGluR1 was proved by in vitro and in vivo experiments using rodents. </P>

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic role of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and analyze factors associated with false-negative FNAC results in patients with parathyroid incidentaloma who were referred for ultrasonography (US)-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of thyroid nodules. Methods: In this study, 121 patients with suspected parathyroid lesions were enrolled. The patients underwent US-guided FNAC with measurements of washout parathyroid hormone (PTH) between January 2015 and May 2020. The diagnostic performance of FNAC for the diagnosis of parathyroid lesions was assessed using surgical results and elevated washout PTH as a reference standard. The clinical and radiologic features associated with false-negative results on FNAC for the diagnosis of parathyroid lesions were evaluated. Results: Among the 121 nodules assessed, 38 were parathyroid lesions (31.4%), and 83 were non-parathyroid lesions (68.6%). The diagnostic performance of FNAC for parathyroid incidentaloma showed a sensitivity of 31.6% (12/38), specificity of 100% (83/83), positive predictive values of 100% (12/12), negative predictive values of 76.1% (83/109), and accuracy of 78.5% (95/121). The FNAC results of non-parathyroid lesions included thyroid nodules, lymph nodes, neurogenic tumors, and fat tissue. True-positive results on FNAC were significantly associated with performing FNA twice (58.3% vs. 23.1%, P=0.043). Conclusion: Considering the low sensitivity of FNAC, measuring washout PTH in addition to FNAC may help accurately diagnose parathyroid incidentaloma on thyroid US. Further, the falsenegative rate for FNAC can be reduced by obtaining two or more FNA samples.

A 56-year woman presented eyeball pain and blurred vision. MRI revealed a small well-delineated solid tumor in the apex of right orbit with optic nerve compression. Intraoperatively, the tumor was found very fibrous, hypervascular and adhesive to surrounding structures. The tumor was completely removed with the combination of endoscopic and microscopic technique. Patient experienced transient oculomotor nerve palsy, which completely recovered 3 months after surgery. Herein we report a rare case of angioleiomyoma in the orbital apex.

<P>Ionic liquids are effective additives in terms of improving the key electrolyte properties including the ionic conductivity and the oxidative solubility of Grignard reagent-based electrolytes for rechargeable magnesium batteries. However, a precise understanding of their working mechanisms remains elusive to date. Here, we unravel for the first time the mechanism behind the drastic improvement of key electrolyte properties of Grignard reagents upon the addition of allyl-functionalized pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquids. We show that the Grignard reagents selectively abstract acidic protons in the allyl functional group to create a series of Mg-complexes that are remarkably stabilized by the formation of resonance structures. Moreover, the properties of the resulting electrolytes are tuned by adjusting the molar concentration of the ionic liquids which determines the chemical reaction pathway for the formation of new Mg-complexes. Overall, this study demonstrates a novel strategic approach for developing highly efficient new electrolyte systems for rechargeable magnesium batteries.</P>

Human serum albumin (HSA) has potential for diagnosis and therapy in clinical setting. The purpose of experiments was to develop and evaluate $^{68}Ga$-HSA as a PET agent for diagnosis of acute inflammation. NOTA-HSA was synthesized by conjugating 2-(p-isothiocyanatobenzyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane-1,4,7-triacetic acid to HSA in 0.1 M sodium carbonate buffer (pH 9.5) and then purified using a PD-10 size-exclusion column. NOTA-HSA was labeled with $^{68}Ga$ at room temperature for 10 min, and 8.4% sodium hydrogen carbonate buffer was added for neutralization. $^{68}Ga$-NOTA-HSA was purified using alumina N plus light cartridge and $0.22{\mu}m$ syringe filter. Labeling efficiency and radiochemical purity were determined by ITLC-SG with 0.1 M citric acid. Biodistribution study was performed in a male BALB/c mice model of Carrageenan-induced acute inflammation. Animal PET study was performed in acute inflammation mice model after tail vein injection of $^{68}Ga$-HSA. This radiotracer showed high labeling efficiency (>99%) around pH 7. Biodistribution study showed higher inflamed footpad uptake than control footpad uptake. Animal PET study revealed 2 times higher uptake on inflamed footpad compared to control footpad. In these experiments, we developed $^{68}Ga$-HSA for acute inflammation PET imaging and evaluated it in a mouse disease model. The results demonstrated that $^{68}Ga$-HSA has potential as a PET imaging agent for diagnosis of acute inflammation.
