A PARALLEL SYSTOLIC ARCHITECTURE OF REED-SOLOMON CODES
Baek,Jong Seob,Choi,Young Shig,Kim,Tae Geun 대한전자공학회 1995 ICVC : International Conference on VLSI and CAD Vol.4 No.1
In this paper, the known decoding procedure for Reed-Solomon(RS) codes are modified to obtain full parallelism and pipelining for reduced latency The architectures of four basic building blocks for VLSI RS decoder systems are presented. It is shown that a VLSI RS decoder has the potential advantage of achieving a high decoding speed through parallel pipelining processing. Consequently the latency is {codeword + 18}. Implemented algorithm was synthesized by synopsys and verified in 7.5 MHz clock rate.
Performance Analysis of Power Control Effects in Channel Estimation for AF Relaying Network
Jong-Seob Baek,Jong-Soo Seo IEEE 2012 IEEE communications letters Vol.16 No.6
<P>In this letter, we analyze the power control effects in a least-square (LS) channel estimation for an amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying network over frequency-selective fading channel. In particular, we analyze such effects through a mean-square-error (MSE) performance for relaying link signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) between source-to-relay and source-to-destination. Finally, it is shown that the performance evaluations confirm the analysis results.</P>
Efficient Pilot Patterns and Channel Estimations for MIMO-OFDM Systems
Jong-Seob Baek,Jong-Soo Seo IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on broadcasting Vol.58 No.4
<P>In this paper, we present the efficient pilot patterns and channel estimations for a high-rate multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system. In particular, we propose the scattered pilot (SP), edge pilot (EP), and continuous pilot (CP) by exploiting a basic orthogonal property of a unitary matrix. From the orthogonal property, we then propose the efficient channel frequency response (CFR) and channel impulse response (CIR) estimations. Finally, we evaluate the efficiency of the proposed schemes by comparing with a multi-input single-output OFDM (MISO-OFDM) system.</P>
Fast Start-Up Decision Feedback Equalizer Based on Channel Estimation for 8VSB DTV System
Baek, Jong-Seob,Park, Sung-Woo,Seo, Jong-Soo [Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2007 IEEE transactions on broadcasting Vol.53 No.1
<P>This paper presents a robust fast start-up decision feedback equalizer (DFE) based on channel estimation for eight-level vestigial sideband digital television (8VSB DTV) system. We propose two techniques to achieve the fast start-up equalization without an error propagation. The first one is a channel estimation scheme, which consists of a tap-selected correlation and a modified least-mean-square algorithm, to estimate accurately long and complex channels. The second one is a general training DFE (GT-DFE) to overcome the shortage of a training sequence in the VSB signal. The GT-DFE calculates the coefficients of the DFE prior to the equalization with the knowledge of the channel estimation, reference tap (symbol timing of DFE) and its position, i.e., decision delay, in the feedforward filter (FFF). Simulation results show that the proposed channel estimation scheme provides a reliable performance comparable to that of conventional schemes. It is also shown that a GT-DFE-based DFE provides 7dB~9 dB higher start-up signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as compared to the DFE without the GT-DFE in severe channels. Moreover, the GT-DFE-based DFE provides a faster convergence speed as much as 2.4times106~6times10 6 symbols to converge within 1 dB of the final SINR as compared to the DFE without the GT-DFE</P>
Novel Techniques to Minimize the Error Propagation of Decision Feedback Equalizer in 8VSB DTV System
Jong-Seob Baek,Sung-Woo Park,Jong-Soo Seo [Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2007 IEEE transactions on broadcasting Vol.53 No.2
<P>In this paper, novel and yet simple techniques are presented to minimize the error propagation caused by the large precursors and postcursors of the decision feedback equalizer (DFE) in 8VSB DTV system. A technique that selects a reference tap (symbol timing of DFE) from an estimated channel impulse response (CIR) is presented to minimize the effect of the large precursors. Another technique that selects the reference tap position, i.e., decision delay in a feedforward filter (FFF), from the estimated CIR and the amplitude of the selected reference tap is proposed to minimize the effect of large postcursors. The combined structure of a feedback filter (FBF) and Viterbi decoder for use in 8VSB DTV system is also proposed to replace the past unreliable decision symbols in FBF as well as to reduce the decision error probability. Simulation results show that our proposed DFE can prevent effectively the error propagation, in particular, by changing the reference tap and its position in FFF according to the channel condition. It is also shown that an echo removing capability of the proposed DFE, where 400 and 620taps are used for the FFF and FBF, respectively, is greater than that of conventional DFEs by about -20 mus in the single pre-echo of -10 dB channel and by about 10 mus in the single post-echo of -1 dB channel</P>

Background: The prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) in the community has increased worldwide due to multifactorial reasons. ESBL-EC bloodstream infection (BSI) complicates the decision for proper antimicrobial administration. In this multicenter study, we investigated the prevalence, risk factors, and molecular background of community-onset (CO) ESBL-EC BSI. Methods: We included data for all episodes of ESBL-EC BSI of community origin from May 2016 to April 2017 obtained from the Korean national antimicrobial resistance surveillance system, which comprises six sentinel hospitals. Data, including previous history of admission and use of antimicrobials and medical devices before BSI, were collected, along with microbiological analysis results. Results: Among 1,189 patients with CO BSI caused by E. coli, 316 (27%) were identified as ESBL producers. History of admission, especially to a long-term care hospital (LTCH), and previous use of β-lactams/β-lactamase inhibitors, carbapenem, lincosamide, aminoglycoside, and extended-spectrum cephalosporin were independent risk factors for CO ESBL-EC BSI; admission to an LTCH showed the highest odds ratio (3.8, 95% confidence interval 2.3–6.1). The most common genotype was CTX-M-15 (N=131, 41%), followed by CTX-M-14 (N=86, 27%). ST131 was the most common sequence type among ESBL-EC groups (57%). Conclusions: In Korea, 27% of CO E. coli BSI were caused by ESBL producers. From perspectives of empirical treatment and infection control, history of admission to an LTCH and antimicrobial use should be noted.
