Relationship between Smartphone Use Time, Sitting Time, and Fitness Level in University Students

        ( Jun-il Yoo ),( Jinkyung Cho ),( Kyung-wan Baek ),( Min-ho Kim ),( Ji-seok Kim ) 한국운동생리학회(구 한국운동과학회) 2020 운동과학 Vol.29 No.2

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of smartphone use time, sitting time, and fitness level in university students. METHODS: The participants of this study were 237 healthy university students (157 males and 80 females) enrolled from 2017 to 2018. The smartphone use time was divided into three groups: 0-4, ≥4-10, and ≥10 hours, as was the sitting time: 0-4, 4-7, and ≥7 hours. Binary logistic regression was used to calculate the odd ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the smartphone use time and sitting time for having low levels of fitness. RESULTS: There were linear decreases in physical fitness levels across incremental smartphone use time and sitting time. Compared to the smartphone use time for 0-4 hours (reference), smartphone use time for the ≥4-10 hours (OR=2.498; 95% CI=1.007-6.197; p=.048) or the 10≥group (OR=3.516; 95% CI=1.228-10.064; p=.019) had significantly higher ORs of having lower fitness even after adjustments for age, sex, physical activity and percent body fat. Likewise, logistic regression analyses showed that those who had sitting time for ≥7 hours (OR=3.135; 95% CI=1.155-8.512; p=.025) had significantly higher ORs of having lower fitness even after adjustments for age, sex, physical activity, and percent body fat, as compared with those who had sitting time for 0-<4 hours. CONCLUSIONS: The current finding suggest that the smartphone using time and sitting time were associated with having the risk of lower level of physical fitness in university students.

Evaluation on Hydrogen Embrittlement of Material using Nondestructive Test

        Bae, Dongsu,Lee, Jinkyung,Lee, Sangpill,Son, Insu,Baek, Unbong,Nahm, Seunghoon,Lee, Joonhyun 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.15 No.6

The objective of this research is to study the effect of various hydrogen charging quantities in austenitic stainless steel using nondestructive technique. The hydrogen charging equipment was designed to make charging the steel, and the specimens were charged for 2, 4, 10 and 24 hours in the equipment. An acoustic emission (AE) technique, nondestructive test, was used to evaluate the dynamic behavior of the hydrogen charged austenitic stainless steel specimen. The tensile load was applied the charged specimen with the attached AE sensor, and elastic waves caused plastic deformation and cracking in the specimen by external tensile loading were caught at the AE sensor and analyzed by the AE parameters such as count, energy, duration time, event and amplitude. In addition, ultrasonic wave was also used to evaluate the degree of hydrogen charging. The velocity and the attenuation ratio of the ultrasonic wave on the specimen with different hydrogen charging conditions were measured. The velocity was not changed but the attenuation ratio was linearly increased with the hydrogen charging time. The relationship between the results of nondestructive test including AE test and ultrasonic test and fractographic analysis by using SEM was discussed.

Effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy on Bone Mineral Density in Korean Adults With Turner Syndrome

        Kim SunYoung,Kim Heeyon,Lee Inha,Choi Euna,Baek JinKyung,Lee Jaekyung,Kim Hae-Rim,Yun Bo Hyon,Choi Young Sik,Seo Seok Kyo 대한의학회 2024 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.39 No.1

Background: Turner syndrome (TS) is a common chromosomal abnormality, which is caused by loss of all or part of one X chromosome. Hormone replacement therapy in TS is important in terms of puberty, growth and prevention of osteoporosis however, such a study has never been conducted in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to determine relationship between the starting age, duration of estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) in TS and develop a hormone replacement protocol suitable for the situation in Korea. Methods: This is retrospective study analyzed the medical records in TS patients treated at the Severance hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea from 1997 to 2019. Total of 188 subjects who had received a bone density test at least once were included in the study. Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) was used for achieving bone mineral density (BMD) of normal control group. Student’s t-test, MannWhitney U test, ANOVA and correlation analysis were performed using SPSS 18.0. Results: Each BMD measurement was significantly lower in women with TS than in healthy Korean women. Early start and longer duration of ERT is associated with higher lumbar spine BMD but not femur neck BMD. Femur neck BMD, but not lumbar spine BMD was significantly higher in women with mosaicism than 45XO group. Conclusion: Early onset and appropriate duration of hormone replacement therapy is important for increasing bone mineral density in patients with Turner syndrome. Also, ERT affects differently to TS patients according to mosaicism.

A Pilot Survey Examining Satisfaction for Integrated Medicine Based on Critical Pathways for Acute Facial Palsy

        Ko Min-Jung,Chae Sang-Yeup,Lee Seungeun,Lee Dongmin,Song Jaeho,Park Jinkyung,Kim Jung-Hyun,Goo Bonhyuk,Park Yeon-Cheol,Seo Byung-Kwan,Baek Yong-Hyeon,Nam Sang-Soo 대한침구의학회 2023 대한침구의학회지 Vol.40 No.3

Background: The incidence of facial palsy has been increasing. Many patients consult both Korean and Western physicians; however, no critical pathway (CP) for facial palsy has been established based on integrated medicine including Korean medicine, Western medicine, and complementary and alternative medicine. Thus, we developed and implemented an integrated CP for patients with acute facial palsy and investigated the satisfaction with CP. Methods: Overall, 20 patients who received treatment following the CP and 20 medical staff members involved in their care responded to a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was developed based on a review of previous studies and focused on the satisfaction with the CP. Results: Patients’ satisfaction score with the integrated CP was ≥ 4.4 for all items using a 5-point Likert-type scale. Smooth and cooperative treatment procedures, time-saving practices, and a clear explanation of the integrated treatment plan were satisfactory factors. Additionally, they preferred incorporating specialized facial massage and receiving education on self-exercise or massage techniques as complementary therapies. The medical staff members expressed a high level of satisfaction with the CP; however, the work division and treatment guidelines must be improved. Conclusion: An integrated CP program for acute facial palsy was implemented, and the satisfaction levels of patients and medical staff members were assessed. The results revealed high levels of satisfaction, and several improvements identified will be incorporated into clinical practice going forward.
