Objective: The objectives of this study were to analyze efficacy of immature and mature mouse oocytes after vitrification and warming by applying various combinations of cryoprotectants (CPAs) and/or super-rapid cooling using slush nitrogen ($SN_2$). Methods: Four-week old ICR female mice were superovulated for GV- and MII-stage oocytes. Experimental groups were divided into two groups. Ethylene glycol (EG) only group: pre-equilibrated with 1.5 M EG for 2.5 minutes and then equilibrated with 5.5 M EG and 1.0 M sucrose for 20 seconds. EG+dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) group: pre-equilibrated with 1.3 M EG+1.1 M DMSO for 2.5 minutes and equilibrated with 2.7 M EG+2.1 M DMSO+0.5 M sucrose for 20 seconds. The oocytes were loaded onto grids and plunged into $SN_2$or liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$). Stored oocytes were warmed by a five-step method, and then their survival, maturation, cleavage, and developmental rates were observed. Results: The EG only and EG+DMSO groups showed no significant difference in survival of immature oocytes vitrified after warming. However, maturation and cleavage rates after conventional insemination were greater in the EG only group than in the EG+DMSO group. In mature oocytes, survival, cleavage, and blastocyst formation rates after warming showed no significant difference when EG only or EG+DMSO was applied. Furthermore, cleavage and blastocyst formation rates of MII oocytes vitrified using $SN_2$ were increased in both the EG only and EG+DMSO groups. Conclusion: A combination of CPAs in oocyte cryopreservation could be formulated according to the oocyte stage. In addition, $SN_2$ may improve the efficiency of vitrification by reducing cryoinjury.

<P>Recent advances in of silicon-based CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) flat panel detectors have resulted in an attractive use of cost-effective radiation imaging devices for X-ray and neutron radiography/tomography system. Indirect detection methods consisted of an X-ray converter (or a scintillator screen) and photodiode arrays are more widely used in high resolution micro-CT (computed tomography), dental and industrial NDT applications. In this study, The terbium-doped gadolinium oxysulfide (Gd2O2 S:Tb, Gadox) scintillator screens with different thickness (several 30-140 m thickness) were directly coupled with a fiber-optic plate (FOP) of a commercially available CMOS imaging device for high resolution X-ray and thermal neutron radiography. The RadEye1 CMOS APS (active pixel sensor) imager having a large active area of 25 × 50 mm2 and 48 m pixel pitch was selected for X-ray and thermal neutron imaging with high resolution. The scintillation properties and imaging performance such as relative light output, linearity and spatial resolution were measured and evaluated under X-ray and thermal neutron beam exposure. The good linearity and high spatial resolution characteristics in X-ray and thermal neutron imaging experiments were achieved by using compact, cost-effective imaging detector with exchangeable Gadox scintillator screens.</P>
Preliminary performance of image quality for a low-dose C-arm CT system with a flat-panel detector

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Digital flat panel imager (FPI)-based cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been widely used in C-arm imaging for spine surgery and interventional procedures. The system provides real-time fluoroscopy with high spatial resolution and three-dimensional (3D) visualization of anatomical structure without the need for patient transportation in interventional suite. In this work, a prototype CBCT imaging platform with continuous single rotation about the gantry was developed by using a large-area flat-panel detector with amorphous Si-based thin film transistor matrix. The different 2D projection images were acquired during constant gantry velocity for reconstructed images at a tube voltage of 80–120kVp, and different current (10–50mA) conditions. Various scan protocols were applied to a chest phantom human by changing the number of projection images and scanning angles. The projections were then reconstructed into a volumetric data of sections by using a 3D reconstruction algorithm (e.g., filtered back projection). The preliminary quantitative X-ray performance of our CBCT system was investigated by using the American Association of Physicists in Medicine CT phantom in terms of spatial resolution, contrast resolution, and CT number linearity for mobile or fixed C-arm based CBCT application with limited rotational geometry. The novel results of the projection data with different scanning angles and angular increments in the orbital gantry platform were acquired and evaluated experimentally.</P>

<P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of improving angiogenesis at graft sites on the survival of follicles in transplanted ovarian tissue. Matrigel containing 5 × 105 of cord blood-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) or 200 ng of mouse vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was injected subcutaneously into BALB/c-Nu mice. After 1 week, vitrified/warmed ovaries from female B6D2F1 mice were subcutaneously transplanted into the injection sites. After 1, 2, and 4 weeks posttransplantation, the ovaries were recovered and subjected to histological analysis. Oocytes were collected from the transplanted ovaries, and their fertilization, embryonic development, and delivery were also observed. Vitrified/warmed ovaries transplanted into EPC- or VEGF-treated sites developed more blood vessels and showed better follicle survival than those transplanted into sham-injected sites. Normal embryonic development and consequent live births were obtained using oocytes recovered from cryopreserved/transplanted ovaries. Treatment with EPCs or VEGF could prevent the ischemic damage during the early revascularization stage of ovarian transplantation.</P>
A Study on Food Repurchase Intention Using Nostalgia Marketing
Bo-Kyung Seo,Seong Soo CHA Korea FoodHealth Convergence Association 2023 The East Asian Journal of Business Economics Vol.9 No.3
This study aims to investigate the effect of the selection attribute of Newtro (New + Retro) product marketing, which is a recent topic in the food industry, on consumer satisfaction. Newtro marketing, also known as Newtro-style marketing, is a marketing strategy that emerged in South Korea, particularly in the food industry. Newtro marketing aims to appeal to consumers' nostalgia for the past while incorporating contemporary elements. As a research method, a survey was conducted on the importance of selection attributes and repurchase intention of Newtro food for consumer groups of various age groups ranging from teenagers to those in their 40s or older. To analyze the demographic content of the sample, frequency analysis of the SPSS statistical package was performed, and structural equation modeling was performed using the AMOS program for confirmatory factor analysis and discriminant validity analysis. The analysis results are as follows. First, Package Design, Perceived Healthiness, and Emotional Taste, optional attributes of Newtro marketing, significantly affected satisfaction. Second, satisfaction was found to have a statistically significant effect on repurchase intention. However, Functional Flavor did not statistically affect satisfaction. This study empirically analyzed the importance of consumers' selection attributes for the recently popular food Newtro marketing and suggested implications.

<P>OBJECTIVES: To examine the effects of electroacupuncture stimulation on behavioral changes and neuronal nitric oxide synthase expression in the rat spinal cord after nerve injury. METHODS: Under pentobarbital anesthesia, male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to neuropathic surgery by tightly ligating and cutting the left tibial and sural nerves. Behavioral responses to mechanical stimulation were tested for 2 weeks post-operatively. At the end of behavioral testing, electroacupuncture stimulation was applied to ST36 (Choksamni) and SP9 (Eumleungcheon) acupoints. Immunocytochemical staining was performed to investigate changes in the expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase-immunoreactive neurons in the L4-5 spinal cord. RESULTS: Mechanical allodynia was observed by nerve injury. The mechanical allodynia was decreased after electroacupuncture stimulation. Neuronal nitric oxide synthase expression was also decreased in L4-5 spinal cord by electroacupuncture treatment. DISCUSSION: These results suggest that electroacupuncture relieves mechanical allodynia in the neuropathic rats possibly by the inhibition of neuronal nitric oxide synthase expression in the spinal cord.</P>
