N/A Purpose: This study was conducted to define the main factors influencing ego-integrity of the aged. Method: The data was analyzed using a SAS program for descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. One hundred thirty seven elderly people over the age of 65 were recruited by self-selection from 6 areas in Korea from Jun. 20, 2003 to Aug. 15, 2003. The reliability of the 7 instruments were tested with Cronbach`s alpha which ranged from .79 to .93 Result: The results were as follows : The mean of total item scores of the ego-integrity scale was 3.46. There were significant correlations between all the predictive variables and the ego-integrity(r=.71 ~ -.24, p <.01, p <.001 ). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that; a) self-esteem was the main predictor of ego-integrity and account for 50% of the variance in ego-integrity; b) perceived health status and social support accounted for 6%, and 4% respectively and all these variables accounted far 60% of the variance in ego-integrity. Conclusion: It is important for the elderly to have positive self-esteem and to improve health status. Furthermore, we provide social support to the aged.

Purpose: This study was done to investigate the relationship among the variables, chronic pain, pain coping, fatigue, self-esteem, and depression in elders. Method: Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 270 older adults. Data analysis was done with SPSS 10.1 for descriptive statistics and a PC LISREL program for covariance structural analysis. Results: According to modified model, chronic pain was found to have a significant direct and total effect on pain coping. Chronic pain and pain coping were found to have a significant direct and total effect on fatigue. Chronic pain, pain coping and fatigue were found to have a significant direct and total effect on self-esteem. Chronic pain, pain coping, and self-esteem were found to have a significant direct effect on depression. Conclusion: This modified model is considered appropriate for explaining the relationship among chronic pain, pain coping, fatigue, self-esteem, and depression in elders. Also, the findings support the development of an intervention strategy to relieve chronic pain in elders.

In this paper, DNN training and regularization techniques have been explored for lumbar vertebrae segmentation in CT images of patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease. Combinations of loss function, learning rate schedule, normalization, dropout, moving average, weight decay, and squeeze-and-excitation were empirically tested. The results confirmed that the DNN with optimized training and regularization techniques can improve lumbar vertebrae segmentation without complex structural changes.

Purpose: This study was done to identify predictors differentiating the preparation stage, which is the stage that the smoker is ready to quit smoking, between adolescent smokers and adult smokers. Method: A survey was conducted with 376 adolescent smokers in 4 high schools and 451 adult smokers in community settings in South Korea from August 2003 to April 2005. To identify the predictors before and after preparation in stages of change of smoking, logistic regression was done. Results: The predictors for before preparation in stages of change of smoking were process of change for smoking abstinence for adolescent smokers and depression for adult smokers. The predictors for after preparation in stages of change of smoking were self-efficacy for smoking abstinence for adolescent smoker and self-efficacy for smoking abstinence and smoking temptation for adult smokers. Conclusion: For each group, adolescent smokers and adult smokers, specific smoking intervention methods need to be developed based on the different ways individuals make the decision to quit smoking within their contexts.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of self-efficacy promoting program on self-efficacy, self-care behavior and psychosocial adaptation in patients with a colostomy. Method: A non-equivalent control group pre test post test design was used. The self efficacy promoting programs was composed of a CD image program based on varicaious experience, education and telephone coaching program based on verbal persuasion, and Stoma care practice, and Self care performance based on performance accomplishment. This study was carried out from July 2, 2005 to April 20, 2006 and 21 patients with a colostomy at one of 2 hospitals participated. Descriptive statistics, x²-test, and Mann-whitney U test were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significantly different for specific self efficacy, self care and psychosocial adaptation between the experimental group and control group. Conclusion: The self efficacy promoting program for patients with stomas was effective in improving degree of specific self efficacy, self care and psychosocial adaptation.

Our imaging system called 3D CT(Computed Tomography)-fluoroscopy system which has developed through our project is a mobile x-ray system designed for interventional radiology to assist physician and diagnostic evaluation. Traditionally, spine surgery patients have had preoperative imaging procedures such as CT scans, MRIs, and x-ray to provide diagnostic information to the surgeon. Especially, 2D-fluoroscopy using C-arm has been the standard work horse for intra-operative spine and orthopedic imaging for decades, among other. But x-rays with conventional C-arm show only 2D fluoroscopy image during surgery. Compared to these, CT-fluoroscopy system provide a 2D real time image(fluoroscopy-like) and 3D image of spinal anatomy(CT-like). The system uses a state-of-the-art flat-panel detector as x-ray detection and cone-beam based CT realization. The authors provide some introduction of development of this technology.
