Hydrogen Peroxide Extends Postharvest Life of Ctenanthe setosa Leaf Cuts under Osmotic Stress by Reducing Leaf Rolling

        Aykut Saglam,Ebru Kalaycioglu,Funda Gul Guven,Neslihan Saruhan,Asım Kadioglu,Mehmet Demiralay 한국원예학회 2014 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.55 No.4

Reducing effects of exogenous hydrogen peroxide on leaf rolling in detached leaves of Ctenanthe setosawere studied. The leaves were kept in H2O2 solutions ranging from 0 to 1 mM for 48 h and then, osmotic stresswas applied for 4 h by polyethylene glycol (PEG). Degree of leaf rolling, loss of leaf water, and malondialdehyde(MDA) content were reduced by 0.2 mM H2O2. Antioxidant enzymes were induced by 0.2 mM H2O2. EndogenousH2O2 content was increased after the 0.5 and 1 mM H2O2 treatments but was decreased after 0.2 mM H2O2 treatment. Proline was decreased after exogenous H2O2 applications. Total soluble sugar content was increased as compared tothe control after 0.2 mM H2O2 treatment. In conclusion, low-dose exogenous H2O2 treatment could delay leaf rollingby inducing tolerance to osmotic stress due to modulation of the antioxidant system, soluble sugar accumulation, andmaintenance of leaf hydration. Therefore, postharvest life of C. setosa cut foliage could be extended by 0.2 mMH2O2 treatments.

A family of functions associated with three term relations and Eisenstein series

Aykut Ahmet Aygunes 대한수학회 2016 대한수학회보 Vol.53 No.6

In this paper, for $a\in \mathbb{C}$, we investigate functions $g_{a}$ and $ \psi _{a}$ associated with three term relations. $g_{a}$ is defined by means of function $\psi _{a}$. By using these functions, we obtain some functional equations related to the Eisenstein series and the Riemann zeta function. Also we find a generalized difference formula of function $g_{a}$.

Association of Secondary Amyloidosis with Common Variable Immune Deficiency and Tuberculosis

        Aykut Ferhat Celik,Mehmet Riza Altiparmak,Gulsum Emel Pamuk,Omer Nuri Pamuk,Fehmi Tabak 연세대학교의과대학 2005 Yonsei medical journal Vol.46 No.6

This paper describes the first case of common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and AA amyloidosis. A recently treated tuberculosis, and chronic inflammation induced by frequent respiratory tract infections, were thought to be responsible for the amyloidosis. No other reason for this condition could be detected. Although T cell dysfunction in some CVID patients has been reported, pulmonary tuberculosis is quite rare with this condition. Bacterial or viral agents or evidence in favour of intestinal tuberculosis, which would explain this patient's recurrent diarrhea, were not found. In this case, the response of the attacks of diarrhea to metranidazole and the histologic observation of extensive intestinal amyloid deposition, which is known to decrease intestinal motility, made us conclude that the diarrhea was associated with bacterial overgrowth. In this report, we discuss the association of CVID and tuberculosis to secondary amyloidosis and recurrent diarrhea.

Is There a Correlation Between Behçet Disease and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms?

        Aykut Baser,Ali Ersin Zumrutbas,Yusuf Ozlulerden,Okan Alkıs,Aynure Oztekın,Sinan Celen,Zafer Aybek 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2020 International Neurourology Journal Vol.24 No.2

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with Behçet disease (BD) and to investigate the relationship between the severity of BD and LUTS. Methods: Fifty-five patients with BD were included in this study from January to December 2018. All patients received a detailed urological evaluation. Additionally, BD activity was investigated using the Behçet Disease Current Activation Form. The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form, 8-item overactive bladder questionnaire forms, uroflowmetry, and postvoid residual urine volume were evaluated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 42.6 years. The mean activity score of BD was 4.6±3.2 and the mean IPSS score was 7.3±7.3. Sex had no significant effect on the BD activity score. The BD activity score was significantly correlated with the IPSS score, frequency of daytime urination, nocturia, and urgency. It was also correlated with the presence and the severity of urinary incontinence and the effect of urinary incontinence on daily life. Peak flow rate, voided volume, and the postvoid residual urine volume were not correlated with the BD activity score. Conclusions: LUTS were highly prevalent in patients with BD, and the severity and current activity of BD were correlated with frequency, nocturia, urgency, and urinary incontinence. Therefore, a urological evaluation of patients with BD in whom the activity and severity of the disease is elevated should be carried out comprehensively and patients should be managed accordingly.

DERIVATIVE FORMULAE FOR MODULAR FORMS AND THEIR PROPERTIES

Aykut Ahmet Aygunes 대한수학회 2015 대한수학회지 Vol.52 No.2

In this paper, by using the modular forms of weight nk (2 ≤ n ∈ N and k ∈ Z), we construct a formula which generates modular forms of weight 2nk+4. This formula consist of some known results in [14] and [4]. Moreover, we obtain Fourier expansion of these modular forms. We also give some properties of an operator related to the derivative formula. Finally, by using the function j4, we obtain the Fourier coefficients of modular forms with weight 4.

Clinical Manifestations of Overactive Bladder With Migraine as a Comorbidity: A Prospective Cross-Sectional Study

        Aykut Baser,Sinan Eliaçık,Mehmet Murat Baykam,Funda Uysal Tan 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2020 International Neurourology Journal Vol.24 No.4

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical manifestations of overactive bladder (OAB) with migraine as a comorbidity and to shed light on possible new treatment strategies. Methods: This study included patients aged 18 years and older who were admitted to urology and neurology outpatient clinics between March 1, 2019 and March 1, 2020 for OAB and migraine. The study questionnaire contained 3 sections: (1) questions on demographic characteristics, (2) a migraine ID test, and (3) the Overactive Bladder Inquiry Form - V8 (OAB-V8) form. Results: A total of 265 patients participated in the study. The average age of the participants was 39.75±11.93 years. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the coexistence of OAB with migraine: group 1, OAB(+)/migraine(+); group 2, OAB(+)/migraine(-); and group 3, OAB(-)/migraine(+). The mean OAB-V8 score was 22.82 ±8.15 in group 1 and 25.64±7.49 in group 2. The mean OAB-V8 score of OAB patients with migraine as a comorbidity was statistically significantly lower than that of OAB patients without migraine (P=0.015). The median visual analogue scale (VAS) score was 7.11 (range, 2–10) in group 1 and 5.95 (range, 2–10) in group 3. This finding indicates that in patients with migraine, having OAB was associated with significantly higher VAS scores (P<0.001).Conclusions: OAB and migraine may be comorbid conditions coexisting in a single patient. This comorbidity may lead to a lower perception of OAB symptoms in OAB patients or, conversely, to a higher perception of migraine pain. Further studies are needed to elucidate how treatments for each of these diseases can affect the other disease.

Types of Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder in Turkey: The Perceptions of Inpatients about Treatment Success

Mehmet Aykut Erk,Sunay Firat 대한신경정신의학회 2020 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.17 No.12

Objective The aim of this study was the following. When the different dynamics of agonist or antagonist treatments considered it is assumed that the eligible treatment to the individual may be maintained with high efficacy. Thus, we aimed to examine the difference between treatment methods, considering sociodemographics and positive perception for treatment success. Methods The number of 136 individuals which their ages range between 19-50 and have been getting agonist (buprenorphine/naloxone) or antagonist (naltrexone) treatment because of opioid use disorder while resting in clinics have been evaluated to reveal the factors that may alter their perception about treatment and have been compared with sociodemographic variables and characteristics such as sociotropic and autonomic. Therefore, “Sociodemographic Data Evaluation Form,” “Predictive Factors for The Addiction Treatment Success Scale,” and “Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale” were used to assess the sociodemographic data, the perception towards factors which have been affected to the treatment and characteristics. The data of the individuals have been collected by the researcher via face-to-face interviews while patients were residential in the clinic. Results According to results of our study, it has been detected that there are some differences in the perception of treatment success between individuals who have been getting agonist or antagonist treatments such as treatment method (p<0.05), treatment frequency (p<0.01) and parents’ vital statuses (p<0.05). Conclusion At the end of the study it has been understood that medical and social benefits after the selection of eligible treatment methods which is suitable for individual’s perception and characteristics have to be considered.

Effect of repetitive firing on passive fit of metal substructure produced by the laser sintering in implant-supported fixed prosthesis

Altintas, Musa Aykut,Akin, Hakan The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2020 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.12 No.3

PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to investigate the passive fit of metal substructure after repetitive firing processes in implant-supposed prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Five implants (4 mm diameter and 10 mm length) were placed into the resin-based mandibular model and 1-piece of screw-retained metal substructure was produced with the direct metal laser sintering (DMSL) method using Co-Cr compound (n = 10). The distance between the marked points on the multiunit supports and the marginal end of the substructure was measured using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) at each stage (metal, opaque, dentin, and glaze). 15 measurements were taken from each prosthesis, and 150 measurements from 10 samples were obtained. In total, 600 measurements were carried out at 4 stages. One-way ANOVA test was used for statistical evaluation of the data. RESULTS. When the obtained marginal range values were examined, differences between groups were found to be statistically significant (P<.001). The lowest values were found in the metal stage (172.4 ± 76.5 ㎛) and the highest values (238.03 ± 118.92 ㎛) were determined after glaze application. When the interval values for groups are compared with pairs, the differences between metal with dentin, metal with glaze, opaque with dentin, opaque with glaze, and dentin with glaze were found to be significant (P<.05), whereas the difference between opaque with metal was found to be insignificant (P=.992). CONCLUSION. Passive fit of 1-piece designed implant-retained fixed prosthesis that is supported by multiple implants is negatively affected by repetitive firing processes.
