阿式佳子 ( Ashik Ka Ja ) 한국일어일문학회 2012 日語日文學硏究 Vol.83 No.2
There are two main points to consider. First is Ranpo`s status and environment at the time. In other words, how detective novelists (including Ranpo)were able to acquire medical, psychological, and psychoanalytical knowledge. Second point is how recommended novels were utilized and cited in Ranpo`s work. The result of the first consideration is as such. Ranpo was a doctor alongside being a detective novelist. Moreover, Ranpo presented psychology by means of medicine and Freud`s psychoanalysis. Ranpo went further by joining the "Research Society on Psychoanalysis". Through this association, Ranpo learned more on the topic and actively made personal connections to peoplein this field of medicine. This interaction was not just any gathering for Ranpo; in fact, Ranpo made himself an enthusiastic member of the society. Hence, the detective novelist acquired the ways to earn expertinformation. The analysis of the second point is as such. When writing the "The Psychological Test", Ranpo used Hugo Munsterberg`s "Crime and Psychology" and Fyodor MikhailovichDostoevskii`s "Crime and Punishment" as references. The manuscript thoroughly portrays how Ranpo encountered the books and how he interpreted them; as a result, the use of "psychoanalysis"may be spotted in the tricks of his works.

Development of a robust human motion recognition system concerns with the fact that it adapts with the complexities of recognition. As the determination of the direction of motion is a significant cue, this paper employs the directional vectors in motion analysis that claims the enhancement of robustness over earlier methods. Multi-directional distinct motions are represented and compressed with the motion flow detection and compression technique, and prominent features are extracted. The extracted features are stored within an adaptive database. Finally, the evaluation of the proposed system is performed by recognizing different motions. The results guarantee the robustness of the system.

The petroleum ether and chloroform extracts of the root of Piper chaba showed antimicrobial, antileishmanial and cytotoxic activities. Further bioactivity-guided fractionation led to the isolation of Bornyl piperate (1), piperlonguminine (2) and piperine (3). This is the first report of isolation of compounds (1) and (2) from P. chaba. It was observed that the isolated compounds (1 and 2) showed potent antifungal activity when compared with standard drug Nystatin, and significant cytotoxic activity with the IC?????? values of 0.76 and 0.83???µg???mL???, respectively. These compounds were also found to have weak antibacterial and antileishmanial activities. This is the first report about the antileishmanial activity of Piper isolates.

Study Design: Retrospective review. Purpose: To detect the effect of cannulated (poly-axial head) and solid (mono-axial head) screws on the local kyphotic angle, vertebral body height, and superior and inferior angles between the screw and the rod in the surgical management of thoracolumbar fractures. Overview of Literature: Biomechanics studies showed that the ultimate load, yield strength, and cycles to failure were significantly lower with cannulated (poly-axial head) pedicle comparing to solid core (mono-axial head). Methods: The medical charts of patients with thoracolumbar fractures who underwent pedicle screw fixation with cannulated or solid pedicle screws were retrospectively reviewed; the subjects were followed up from January 2011 to December 2015. Results: Total 178 patients (average age, 36.1±12.4 years; men, 142 [84.3%]; women, 28 [15.7%]) with thoracolumbar fractures who underwent surgery and were followed up at Hamad Medical Corporation were classified, based on the screw type as those with cannulated screws and those with solid screws. The most commonly affected level was L1, followed by L2 and D12. Surgical correction of the local kyphotic angle was significantly different in the groups; however, there was no significant difference in the loss of correction of the local kyphotic angle of the groups. Surgical correction of the reduction in the vertebral body height showed statistical significance, while the average loss of correction in the reduction of the vertebral body height was not significantly different. The measurement of the angles made by the screws on the rods was not significantly different between the cannulated (poly-axial head) and solid (mono-axial head) screw groups. Conclusions: Solid screws were superior in terms of providing increased correction of the kyphotic angle and height of the fractured vertebra than the cannulated screws; however, no difference was noted between the screws in the maintenance of the superior and inferior angles of the screw with the rod.

Background: Oral cancers account for approximately 2% of all cancers diagnosed each year; however, the vast majority (80%) of the affected individuals are smokers whose risk of developing a lesion is five to nine times greater than that of non-smokers. Tobacco smoke contains numerous carcinogens that cause DNA damage, including oxidative lesions that are removed effectively by the base-excision repair (BER) pathway, in which poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1), plays key roles. Genetic variations in the genes encoding DNA repair enzymes may alter their functions. Several studies reported mixed effects on the association between PARP-1 variants and the risk of cancer development. Till now no reported studies have investigated the association between PARP-1 variants and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) risk in an Indian population. Materials and Methods: In the present case control study 100 OSCC patients and 100 matched controls were genotyped using PARP1 single nucleotide peptides (SNP's) rs1136410 and rs3219090 using TaqMan assays. Results: The results indicated significantly higher risk with PARP1 rs1136410 minor allele "C" (OR=1.909; p=0.02942; CI, 1.060-3.439). SNP rs1136410 also showed significantly increased risk in patients with smoking habit at C/C genotype and at minor allele C. Conclusions: The PAPR-1 Ala762Val polymorphism may play a role in progression of OSCC. Larger studies with a greater number of samples are needed to verify these findings.

Purification, characterization and biochemical properties of α-amylase from post harvest Bangladeshi Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) were investigated. The α-amylase was purified by successive chromatography on DEAE and CM-cellulose columns with a yield of 24.24%. SDS-PAGE showed a molecular weight of 44 kDa for the enzyme that contain 2.8% sugar. The enzyme lost total activity in the presence of the chelating agent EDTA, confirming it was an α-type amylase. The enzyme displayed optimum activity at pH 7.2 and 37˚C, with an apparent Km value of 0.26% using starch as its substrate. The enzyme was strongly inhibited by Cu2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+; moderately by Li+, Hg+ and Cd2+; and slightly by Ag+, K+, Mn2+ and Mg2+. Conversely, Fe3+ and Na+ appreciably enhanced activity, while adding calcium ion nearly doubled enzyme activity. In addition, the activity of α-amylase gradually decreased with increasing concentrations of urea. Thus, potato α-amylase is an attractive target for study to better understand the structure-function relationships of α-amylases.

Flesh and peel extracts of five mango varieties were compared for their antioxidant and antiproliferative activities. Fozli peel (FP) extract was found to have the highest antioxidant activity and to significantly inhibit the proliferation of HeLa human cervical carcinoma cells in a dose-dependent manner. Hoechst 33342 staining revealed apoptotic nuclei with condensed chromatin, and cell growth arrest was confirmed by flow cytometry. Apoptotic signaling induced by FP extract was characterized by an increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and down-regulation of Bcl-2. Moreover, FP extract treatment triggered the proteolytic activation of caspases-3, -8, and -9 and the degradation of poly ADP-ribose polymerase in HeLa cells. These results indicate that FP is an excellent source of phenolic and/or flavonoid compounds, and may have applications in the treatment of human cervical carcinoma and as an antioxidant in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of FP extract revealed that 2,5-dihydroxyphenol was detected with highest amount and other compounds such as 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxaldehyde, pentadecanoic acid, (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid, and 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one were also found in high amounts.
