Diversification and Performance of Sri Lankan Banks

PISEDTASALASAI, Anirut,EDIRISURIYA, Piyadasa Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.9

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between diversification and the performance of commercial banks, while taking into account the ownership status of these banks in Sri Lanka. Two-way relationship between diversification and performance was scrutinised by employing the 2SLS regression technique. The data consists of 17 registered commercial bank in Sri Lanka between 2001-2016. The results show a strong significant bidirectional relationship exists between diversification and bank performance. The performance of Sri Lankan banks has been significantly improved by their diversification attempts. In other words, the banks whose incomes are more diversified from various sources, they are more profitable and successful in long-term. On the other hands, the results also reveal that bank performance positively and significantly affects diversification. This finding suggests that the banks with great profitability are more capable in diversify their operations. Furthermore, private sector banks, both listed and unlisted, are significantly more diversified than their government-owned counterparts, but their performance is not necessarily superior to government-owned banks. This may be the result of the economic environment and the perception of the public, which have allowed the government-owned banks to entertain significant market power over the private sector banks in the country.

Quality of Composite Wheat-Wet Milled Glutinous Rice Flour Bread and Effects of Chitosan on Its Quality during Storage

( Phantipha Charoenthaikij ),( Piyanuch Laungprasan ),( Anirut Sungkhamongkolkit ),( Tanat Uan On ),( Hong Kyoon No ),( Witoon Prinyawiwatkul ) 한국키틴키토산학회 2014 한국키틴키토산학회지 Vol.19 No.2

Selected quality of dough and bread made from a composite flour of wheat/wet milled glutinous rice flour [W/GRF = 100/0 (control), 90/10, 80/20 and 70/30, w/w] was evaluated. Effects of chitosan (CS, 0.7% and 1.4%, w/w) on bread quality during room temperature storage were also evaluated. At 30% incorporated GRF, the lowest dough stability was observed. Compared to the control, increasing GRF decreased specific volume and expansion ratio but increased softness of breads. Breads containing GRF had significantly higher overall liking scores than the control (6.0-6.3 vs. 5.2), which was likely attributed to higher softness liking scores (5.8-6.5 vs. 4.9). Compared to the control, bread containing 1.4% CS was darker and yellower, and had a significantly lower rate of firming (29% vs. 77%) after 3 days of storage. A one Log reduction of yeast and mold counts was observed for bread containing 1.4% CS after 5 days of storage.

      • The Biodiesel Production from Roast Thai Sausage Oil by Transesterification Reaction

        Wasan Theansuwan,Kaitisak Sriprateep,Anirut Palaprom 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7

This research is to study the feasibility of biodiesel production from roast Thai sausage oil by transesterification process. The objective of this work was to investigate the effects of potassium hydroxide (K₂OH₃) as heterogeneous catalyst (3 - 9% (wt) of the feedstock) and methanol?oil molar ratio (3:1 ? 12:1) on the yield and properties (flash point and fire point) of the biodiesel products at 60℃ of reacting temperature. The results showed that the suitable conditions for the production of biodiesel were at 3:1 of methanol-oil molar ratio and at 3% of K₂OH₃ (wt) of the feedstock. It was also found that the maximum biodiesel yields (86.40%) on this condition. According to the physical characterisation of the products, it was found that the biodiesel produced in this work showed similar properties to the standard biodiesel (methyl ester).

A survey of pre-service teachers’ acceptance of technology in Thailand

        Timothy Teo,Jintavee Khlaisang,Thapanee Thammetar,Kobkul Sunphakitjumnong,Anirut Satiman,Nammon Ruangrit 서울대학교 교육연구소 2014 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.15 No.4

In the recent decade, Thailand has launched many initiatives to ensure that technology is integrated into the school curriculum. Despite the investment and efforts of the government, few studies have been conducted to examine users’ acceptance of technology. Given that educators are the change agents in many educational initiatives, it is important to gain insights into the factors that influence their uses of technology for teaching and learning. The aim of this study is to survey the level of technology acceptance among pre-service teachers in Thailand. In so doing, the level of technology acceptance among a national sample of 969 pre-service teachers was measured and whether their acceptance was significantly differentiated by gender, age, perceived technology competence, and computer experience was assessed. Using the Technology Acceptance Measure for Pre-service Teachers (Teo in Educ Psychol Meas 70(6):990–1006, 2010a; Multicult Educ Technol J 4(3):163–172, 2010b), the results provided preliminary evidence which suggests that pre-service teachers possess an above-average level of technology acceptance and that computer experience acted as a mediator of technology acceptance. To some degree, this study has contributed to the ensuing debates on technology acceptance in education and offered additional insights into the advancement of technology integration in Asia.
