A novel high performance diffuser design for small DAWT’s by using a blunt trailing edge airfoil
Arturo Alanís,Jesus Alejandro Franco,Saul Piedra,Juan Carlos Jauregui 한국풍공학회 2021 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.32 No.1
This paper proposes a novel diffuser design for Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbines (DAWT) based on the blunt trailing edge airfoil AF300. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are carried out to measure the performance of the AF300 diffuser against diffusers made with the shape of other high performance low wind speed airfoils. The results show that the proposed diffuser produces a greater air mass flow increase through the plane of the turbine than the other diffusers and it can be used to increase the performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine.
Tuberculosis in Mexico and the USA, Comparison of Trends Over Time 1990–2010
Eduardo Hernández-Garduño,Fabiola Mendoza-Damián,Salvador Ayón-Garibaldo,Adriana Garduño-Alanís 대한결핵및호흡기학회 2015 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.78 No.3
Background: The aim was to compare tuberculosis trends in Mexico and United States and to evaluate Mexican diagnostic methods and contact investigation. Methods: Retrospective comparative study of tuberculosis cases and incidence rates between both countries (1990–2010). Diagnostic methods and contact investigations were also evaluated for Mexico. Estimates were obtained from official websites. Results: In Mexico, no clear trend was found over time for cases. Pulmonary (PTB) and all forms of tuberculosis (AFTB) incidence decreased 2.0% annually. There was a negative correlation between the mean contacts examined per case and AFTB incidence (r2=–0.44, p=0.01) with a 33% reduction in AFTB incidence. In United States, PTB and AFTB cases have been decreasing 6.0% and 5.6% annually, respectively. The incidence decreased 7.3% and 6.8%, respectively. Conclusion: The incidence of tuberculosis in Mexico is decreasing slightly over time at 2% annually. In the United States, cases and incidence rates have been decreasing at a higher rate (5% to 7% annually). The inverse association between number of contacts examined per state and incidence rates in Mexico underscore the importance of reinforcing and improving contact investigations with the likely translation of a decrease of TB incidence at a higher rate.
Pain in Patients with Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa: Association with Anxiety and Depression
Giulio Fortuna,Massimo Aria,Rodrigo Cepeda-Valdes,Maria Guadalupe Moreno Trevino,Julio Cesar Salas-Alanís 대한신경정신의학회 2017 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.14 No.6
Objective: We investigate the presence and the quality of pain in patients with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB), and its correlation with the level of anxiety and depression. Methods: We collected data from 27 DEB patients and 26 healthy individuals. DEB patients and controls completed 1 scale for the quality of pain, and 1 scale for anxiety and depression. Pain was assessed with the short form of the McGill Pain Questionnaire, whereas anxiety and depression were assessed with the Hamilton rating scale for anxiety and depression. Results: DEB patients and healthy control individuals were homogeneous for age and gender (p>0.05). A statistically significant difference in the two groups was seen for sensory pain rating scale (p<0.001), affective pain rating scale (p=0.029), total pain rating scale (p<0.001), visual analogue scale (p=0.012) and present pain intensity (p=0.001), but not for anxiety (p=0.169) and depression (p=0.530). The characteristics of pain that showed a significant difference between DEB patients and healthy controls were shooting, splitting, tender and throbbing (p<0.05). In DEB patients pain was not correlated with anxiety or depression (p>0.05), whereas a slight correlation between pain and anxiety was found in healthy controls (p<0.05). No difference was found between quality of pain and anxiety-depression in DEB patients (p>0.05), but was between the DEB dominant and the recessive form of DEB (p=0.025). Conclusion: The perception of pain in DEB patients appears greater than in healthy individuals, with splitting and tender characteristics being the most significant ones, but was not associated with anxious and/or depressive symptoms.
‘Balance of Mind’, Flexibility and Work/Life Balance in the Recession
Alan Law(Alan Law ),Victor Deyglio(Victor Deyglio ) 한국캐나다학회 2011 Asia-Pacific Journal of Canadian Studies (APJCS) Vol.17 No.1
Using data from the 2009 Professional logistics Labour market survey (n=566), the paper explores impacts of layoff threat on work/life balance. While threat of layoff causes work/life balance to decline, the effect is mediated by attachment to career. The paper locates it’s central theoretical thrust stemming from ideas developed in Ma Huidi’s (2008) paper on Chinese ideas of personal ‘harmony’ or ‘balance of mind’ capable of transcending the modernist dialectical relationship between work and leisure.
