Neuro-fuzzy modeling of deformation parameters for fusion-barriers

Akkoyun, Serkan,Torun, Yunis Korean Nuclear Society 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.5

The fusion-barrier distribution is very sensitive to the structure of the colliding nuclei such as nuclear quadrupole and hexadecapole deformation parameters and their signs. If the nuclei that enter the fusion reaction are deformed, the barrier problem becomes complicated. Therefore the deformation parameters are taken into account in the calculations. In this study, Neuro-Fuzzy approach, ANFIS, method has been used for the estimation of ground-state quadrupole (𝜀2) and hexadecapole (𝜀4) deformation parameters for the nuclei. According to the results, the method is suitable for this task and one can confidently use it to obtain the data that is not available in the literature.

Investigation of blast-induced ground vibration effects on rural buildings

        Oncu, Mehmet Emin,Yon, Burak,Akkoyun, Ozgur,Taskiran, Taha Techno-Press 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.54 No.3

In this paper, blast-induced vibration effects on buildings located in rural areas were investigated. Damages to reinforced concrete, adobe and masonry buildings were evaluated in Catakk$\ddot{o}pr\ddot{u}$ and Susuz villages in Silvan district of Diyarbakir, Turkey. Blasting of stiff rocks to construct highway at vicinity of the villages damaged the buildings seriously. The most important reason of the damages is lack of engineering services and improper constructed buildings according to the current building design codes. Also, it is determined that, inappropriate blast method and soft soil class increased the damages to the buildings. The study focuses on four points: Blast effect on buildings, soil conditions in villages, building damages and evaluation of damage reasons according to the current Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC).

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection and Woven Coronary Artery: Three Cases and a Review of the Literature

        Aydın Akyuz,Seref Alpsoy,Dursun Cayan Akkoyun 대한심장학회 2013 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.43 No.6

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and woven coronary artery anomaly (WCAA) are relatively rare. A few of the previously reported woven coronary artery cases have involved in a single coronary artery. We present an unusual woven case involving all coronary arteries and two patient with SCAD. We have also reviewed the literature related to these disease, as they resemble one another.

Maximal Exercise-Corrected QT as a Predictor of Coronary Artery Disease: Comparison of Simpler Heart Rate Corrections

        Aydın Akyuz,Seref Alpsoy,Dursun Cayan Akkoyun,Hasan Degirmenci,Niyazi Guler 대한심장학회 2013 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.43 No.10

Background and Objectives: The relationship between QT prolongation and myocardial ischemia is widely known. Due to the limited value of ST depression, we aimed to evaluate, by using four simpler heart rate corrections (Bazett, Framingham, Fridericia and Hodges), the value of maximal exercise-QTc prolongation in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) presence and severity. Subjects and Methods: We enrolled 234 subjects (mean age 57.3±9 years, 143 men) who had undergone exercise testing and coronary angiography due to a suspicion of CAD in the study. Evaluating CAD severity with Gensini scoring, the CAD group (n=122) and controls with non-CAD were compared in terms of corrected QT duration at maximal exercise. Results: Age, gender, hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking, exercise duration, resting, and peak heart rate were similar between the two groups (all p>0.05). The CAD group had higher raw QT values than the controls {268 (169-438) vs. 240 (168-348), p<0.001}. Although Fra-mingham QTc of ≥350 ms and Fridericia QTc of ≥340 ms were seen to be useful for the diagnosis of CAD, there was no additive diagnostic value of exercise QTc in addition to ST depression. Maximal exercise-QTc Bazett (r=0.163, p=0.01), Framingham (r=0.239, p=0.001), and Fri-dericia (r=0.206, p=0.001) equations were weakly positively correlated with Gensini scoring. Conclusion: The patients with CAD have longer QTc intervals at peak heart rates during exercise. This finding provides insufficient evid-ence to support routine incorporation of QTc at peak heart rates into exercise test interpretation.

Estimation of the wind speed in Sivas province by using the artificial neural networks

Cahit Gurlek,Mustafa Sahin,Serkan Akkoyun 한국풍공학회 2021 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.32 No.2

In this study, the artificial neural network (ANN) method was used for estimating the monthly mean wind speed of Sivas, in the central part of Turkey. Eighteen years of wind speed data obtained from nine measurement stations during the period of 2000-2017 at 10 m height was used for ANN analysis. It was found that mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) ranged from 3.928 to 6.662, mean bias error (MBE) ranged from -0.089 to -0.003, while root mean square error (RMSE) ranged from 0.050 to 0.157 and R2 ranged from 0.86 to 0.966. ANN models provide a good approximation of the wind speed for all measurement stations, however, a tendency to underestimate is also obvious.

Pomegranate Seed Extract Attenuates Chemotherapy-Induced Acute Nephrotoxicity and Hepatotoxicity in Rats

        Kerim Çayır,Ali Karadeniz,Nejdet Şimşek,Serap Yıldırım,Emre Karakuş,Adem Kara,Hürrem Turan Akkoyun,Emin Şengül 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.10

Cisplatin (CDDP), one of the most active cytotoxic agents against cancer, has adverse side effects, such as nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. The present study was designed to investigate the potential protective effect of pomegranate seed extract (PSE) against oxidative stress caused by CDDP injury of the kidneys and liver by measuring tissue biochemical and antioxidant variables and immunohistochemically testing caspase-3–positive cells. Twenty-four Sprague–Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups: control; CDDP: injected intraperitoneally with CDDP (7 mg/kg body weight, single dose); PSE: treated for 15 consecutive days by gavage with PSE (300 mg/kg per day); and PSE+CDDP: treated by gavage with PSE 15 days after a single injection of CDDP. The degree of protection against CDDP injury afforded by PSE was evaluated by determining the levels of malondialdehyde as a measure of lipid peroxidation. The levels of glutathione and activities of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and superoxide dismutase were estimated from liver and kidney homogenates; the liver and kidney were also histologically examined. PSE elicited a significant protective effect toward liver and kidney by decreasing the level of lipid peroxidation; elevating the levels of glutathione S-transferase; and increasing the activities of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and superoxide dismutase. These biochemical observations were supported by immunohistochemical findings and suggested that PSE significantly attenuated nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity by the way of its antioxidant, radical-scavenging, and antiapoptotic effects. This PSE extract could be used as a dietary supplement in patients receiving chemotherapy medications.
