        Prostate Metastasis of Malignant Melanoma

        Metastatic malignant melanoma of the prostate is extremely rare in clinical practice,and only one case has been reported in the English literature in the past 30 years. We report a case of malignant melanoma that metastasized to the prostate and review the current literature. A 50-year-old man with a history of malignant melanoma metastasis to the left axilla, which was excised 3 years ago, presented with lower urinary tract symptoms and gross hematuria. He underwent cystoscopy and transurethral resection of the prostate. The pathological examination showed metastatic malignant melanoma of the prostate gland. The patient died 6 months after the transurethral resection.

        Development of a Mecanum-Wheeled Mobile Robot for Dynamic- and Static-Obstacle Avoidance Based on Laser Range Sensor

        This study aims to present an idea about the practical consequences of using mobile robots with Mecanum wheels. For mobile robots, an approach is proposed to avoid obstacles without location and map information. This approach is presented using a series of developed solutions. This article shares the process on how a set of discussed conceptual methodologies can be applied as well as their practical results. This method is provided using fuzzy logic and gap tracking. LIDAR is used to recognize obstacles around the mobile robot. By using the LIDAR, the robot detects gaps around it and moves according to fuzzy logic. The fuzzy logic consists of three inputs, an output, and 45 rules. The first of the membership functions represents the membership function that replaces the obstacle. The second membership function calculates the distance to the obstacle. The final login membership function is used to determine the angle between the obstacle and robot view. The output membership function represents the membership function that moves the robot. The results are analyzed under three different scenarios with five different experiments for each scenario. The results show that the mobile robot can avoid obstacles without location and map information. We believe that the proposed method can be used in mobile robots such as guard and service robots.

        A Retrospective Study of Congenital Cardiac Abnormality Associated with Scoliosis

        Study Design: Retrospective study. Purpose: To identify the incidence of congenital cardiac abnormalities in patients who had scoliosis and underwent surgical treatment for scoliosis. Overview of Literature: Congenital and idiopathic scoliosis (IS) are associated with cardiac abnormalities. We sought to establish and compare the incidence of congenital cardiac abnormalities in patients with idiopathic and congenital scoliosis (CS) who underwent surgical treatment for scoliosis. Methods: Ninety consecutive scoliosis patients, who underwent surgical correction of scoliosis, were classified as CS (55 patients, 28 female [51%]) and IS (35 patients, 21 female [60%]). The complete data of the patients, including medical records, plain radiograph and transthoracic echocardiography were retrospectively assessed. Results: We found that mitral valve prolapse was the most common cardiac abnormality in both patients with IS (nine patients, 26%) and CS (13 patients, 24%). Other congenital cardiac abnormalities were atrial septal aneurysm (23% of IS patients, 18% of CS patients), pulmonary insufficiency (20% of IS patients, 4% of CS patients), aortic insufficiency (17% of IS patients), atrial septal defect (11% of IS patients, 13% of CS patients), patent foramen ovale (15% of CS patients), dextrocardia (4% of CS patients), bicuspid aortic valve (3% of IS patients), aortic stenosis (2% of CS patients), ventricular septal defect (2% of CS patients), and cardiomyopathy (2% of CS patients). Conclusions: We determined the increased incidence of congenital cardiac abnormalities among patients with congenital and IS. Mitral valve prolapse appeared to be the most prevalent congenital cardiac abnormality in both groups.

        Corticosteroid Therapy Improves the Outcome of Semen Analysis in an Oligozoospermic Patient With Epididymal Sarcoidosis

        Sarcoidosis is a multisystem, inflammatory disorder characterized by the presence of noncaseating epithelioid granulomas. Sarcoidosis can involve the genitourinary system by affecting the kidney and genitals. Most characteristic genital lesions proceed to granuloma and can comprise the epididymis, testis, and vas deferens. Few case reports have been published on this rare entity. We report a case in which a man presented with bilateral epididymal sarcoidosis and severe oligospermia. Corticosteroid treatment, which was applied in gradually decreasing doses for 6 months, dissolved the testicular granuloma. Consequently, semen analysis demonstrated a significant increase in the sperm count to within normal limits.
