      • Policies and Practices for Promoting Multicultural Awareness of Indigenous Early Childhood Education in Indonesia

Aliah B. Purwakania Hasan,Eny Suwarni 육아정책연구소 2012 International Journal of Child Care and Education Vol.6 No.1

Unlike other countries where indigenous people constitute the minority groups, in Indonesia majority of the population (about 95%) are natives (pribumi). There are over 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia who live side by side and in some cases form blurred inter-ethnic boundaries. In addition, Indonesia has unique indigenous Early Childhood Education model that is different from other countries. Indigenous Early Childhood Education in Indonesia is stated in the national laws and government regulations local contents curriculum in education. Local contents defined as educational programs, substances and media transfers, which are related with the natural, social and cultural environments and the needs of regional development being taught to students. The objective of this paper is to describe the implementation Indigenous Early Childhood Education for promoting the physical, intellectual, social, emotional growth of young children aged under three years in Indonesia. The paper also intends to explain the barriers encountered and recommend remedial measures.

      • Discourse Anaphora and Anaphora Resolution in a Natural Language Interface to a Database Question Answering system

( Nor Aliah Bt. Mohd Zahri ),( Dr. Stephen Sommerville ) 한국언어정보학회 1994 국제 워크샵 Vol.1994 No.-

Allowing users to interact with a database system in a continuous question and answering dialogue provides a conversational form of interaction between the user and the system. Such facilities give the user the opportunity to use anaphoric expressions, substitution phrases and ellipses. We examine the different forms of anaphora resolution required for a Natural Language Interface (NLI) to database question-answering systems which can support cohesive and coherent dialogue interaction. Our approach adopts a minimalist methodology in that it seeks to achieve resolutions of typical forms of anaphora and ellipsis in question-answering dialogues, without over committing the interface to computationally costly processing. This methodology suggests a natural separation of roles in which modules of the interface software function as agents co-operating to resolve syntactic, semantic and discourse features of anaphoric expressions to recognise and select candidate referents from antecedent expressions. We investigate this architecture in the context of typical instances of anaphora and ellipsis, review alternative proposals for anaphora resolution from the computational linguistic and discourse theoretic literature and characterise the prototype test-bed we have used to evaluate our proposals. We conclude with some projections of future developments of this approach, together with current limitations of our resolution techniques.

      • BANANA PEELS: AN ECONOMICAL REFINING AGENT FOR CARCINOGENIC SUBSTANCE IN WASTE COOKING OIL

Rifqi Taqiuddin,Nabila Yahdiani Aliah 국제과학영재학회 2012 APEC Youth Scientist Journal Vol.4 No.-

There are so many consumers and small scale traders of fried food in this world, including Indonesia. Unfortunately, some of the traders usually do not have enough capital to create a good healthy standard for the food they produced and therefore they use their cooking oil (usually called waste cooking oil) repeatedly more than 8-10 times. Obviously the oil is not a good healthy standard for producing food. Useless materials in the waste oil especially peroxide will increase risks of some diseases, such as cancer. This research conducted to test the effectiveness of banana peel as readily available, low cost, environment friendly bio-material. The banana peel could adsorb peroxide and increase the brightness of waste cooking oil. Several 100 ml samples of waste cooking oil were treated at room temperature using combinations of 2 grams of dehydrated banana peel, activated carbon banana peel, carbon banana peel, and/or shallot, and compared to commercial activated carbon as absorbent. After 24 hours, the concentration of peroxide (peroxide number) was calculated using a thiosulphate titration method. Clarity, thus purity of each samples were also compared by analysing the absorbance using a spectrophotometer. The result shows that dehydrated banana peel is the best material applied to remove peroxide in waste cooking oil compared to activated carbon banana peel, carbon banana peel, shallot, and commercial activated carbon. Whereas shallot is the material that results in the brightest waste cooking oil compared to other material used.

NONLINEAR OSCILLATION MODEL FOR EXPLAINING THE DISTRIBUTION OF POSITION DEVIATION IN SELF-ORGANIZED NANOPARTICLES

        MASTURI,MAHARDIKA PRASETYA AJI,HASNIAH ALIAH,EUIS SUSTINI,KHAIRURRIJAL,MIKRAJUDDIN ABDULLAH 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2013 NANO Vol.8 No.1

A model for explaining deviations of positions in self-organized nanoparticles on a substrate from their corresponding positions in perfect organization is proposed. The model predictions were compared with SEM/TEM images and reported by some authors. We found a consistence between the model predictions with the data of Ag, Fe3O4 and SiO2 nanoparticles organization on various substrates.

Protective effects of cardamom aqueous extract against tamoxifen-induced pancreatic injury in female rats

        Attia Hala,Alzoubi Afraa,Al-anazi Nour,Alshanwani Aliah,El-Orabi Naglaa,Alanteet Alaa,Mohamad Raeesa,Ali Rehab 한국독성학회 2023 Toxicological Research Vol.39 No.4

Tamoxifen (TAM) is a commonly used drug for breast cancer treatment. Although effective, TAM has deleterious effects on many organs. The toxic effects of TAM on the pancreas and the underlying mechanisms however, have not fully investigated. In the present study, we investigated the effects of TAM on the pancreatic tissue in female rats. We also examined whether cardamom aqueous extract (CAE) protects against TAM-induced pancreatic injury. TAM-intoxicated rats were injected with 45 mg/kg of TAM for 10 days, whereas rats in the CAE-treated group were administered 10 mL/kg of CAE for 20 days, starting 10 days prior to TAM administration. Treatment with TAM resulted in severe degeneration of the pancreatic acini and marked increases in the serum levels of pancreatic lipase, α-amylase, glucose, fatty acids and triglycerides along with decreased insulin serum levels. TAM led to oxidative stress as evident from a significant increase in the pancreatic levels of lipid peroxides and nitric oxide along with the depletion of reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase. Moreover, inflammation was indicated by a significant increase in tumor necrosis factor–α and interleukin-6 levels, enhanced expression of the macrophage recruitment marker; CD68 as well as up-regulated protein levels of toll-like receptor 4 and nuclear factor kappa B and increased p-p38/MAPK ratio; which are important signals in the production of inflammatory cytokines. TAM also markedly increased the pancreatic levels of caspase-3 and BAX reflecting its apoptotic effects. The CAE treatment ameliorated all the biochemical and histological changes induced by TAM. The present study revealed, for the first time, that TAM has toxic effects on the pancreatic tissue through oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptotic effects. The present study also provides evidence that CAE exerts cytoprotective effects against these deleterious effects induced by TAM in the pancreatic tissue.
