Evaluation of anti-inflammatory activity of Solanum trilobatum roots

        A Pandurangan,RL Khosa,S Hemalatha 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2008 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.8 No.4

This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory potential of the crude alkaloidal fraction (CAF) of methanol extract of Solanum trilobatum Linn. (Solanacea) root in animal models of inflammation. Crude alkaloidal fraction at doses of 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg significantly (p < 0.01) reduced carrageenan induced rat paw volume at 3 h after carrageenan challenge as compared to control group of animals. CAF (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg) significantly (p < 0.01) and dose dependently suppressed cotton pellet induced granuloma formation. Topical application of CAF (1, 5 and 10 mg/ear) markedly inhibited multiple application of TPA in mice. CAF elicited pronounced inhibitory effects on formaldehyde and adjuvant induced arthritis in rats. These results indicate that CAF of methanol extract of the Solanum trilobatum has anti-inflammatory activity in acute and chronic inflammation. Synthesis of nitrogen doped coiled double walled carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition method for supercapacitor applications

        V. Thirumal,A. Pandurangan,Mohd Mahadi Halim,S.R. Krishnamoorthi,R. Ilangovan 한국물리학회 2016 Current Applied Physics Vol.16 No.8

Recently carbon nanostructured materials are more attractive for the supercapacitor applications. Pure carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and double walled nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (N-DWCNTs) have been synthesized for electrode material for the Supercapacitor applications. The N-DWCNTs were synthesized by Thermal Chemical Vapor Depositions (T-CVD) and they are coil shaped. The synthesized N-DWCNTs were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The morphology of coil shaped NDWCNTs were revealed by the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The Electrochemical performance of pure CNTs and N-DWCNTs was analyzed using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) with 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte. It showed the good pseudocapacitance behavior for NDWCNTs. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was measured for N-DWCNTs and showed the smaller charge transfer resistance (Rct e 7.731 U) which is much smaller than that of CNTs (23.69 U). The specific capacitance was measured for pure CNTs (23.40 F/g) and N-DWCNTs (51.29 F/g) with current density 0.125 A/g.

Antinociceptive, Immunomodulatory and Antipyretic Activity of Nymphayol Isolated from Nymphaea stellata (Willd.) Flowers

        ( Subash Babu Pandurangan ),( Antony Samy Paul ),( Ignacimuthu Savarimuthu ),( Alshatwi A Ali ) 한국응용약물학회 2013 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.21 No.5

In the present study, we aimed to analyze the antinociceptive, immunomodulatory and antipyretic activities of nymphayol were investigated in wistar rats and mice. Antinociceptive effect was evaluated by acetic acid induced writhing, formalin induced paw licking and hot-plate tests. Immunomodulatory activity was assessed by neutrophil adhesion test, humoral response to sheep red blood cells, delayed-type hypersensitivity, phagocytic activity and cyclophosphamide induced myelosuppression. Antipyretic activity was evaluated by yeast induced hyperthermia in rats. Nymphayol produced signifi cant (p<0.05) antinociceptive activity in acetic acid induced writhing response and late phase of the formalin induced paw licking response. Pre-treatment with nymphayol (50 mg/kg, oral) evoked a signifi cant increase in neutrophil adhesion to nylon fi bres. The augmentation of humoral immune response to sheep red blood cells by nymphayol (50 mg/kg) was evidenced by increase in antibody titres in rats. Oral administration of nymphayol (50 mg/kg) to rats potentiated the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction induced by sheep red blood cells. Treatment with nymphayol showed a signifi cant (p<0.05) reduction in pyrexia in rats. The results suggest that nymphayol possesses potent anti-nociceptive, immunomodulatory and antipyretic activities.

Synthesis and characterization of graphitic mesoporous carbon using metal-metal oxide by chemical vapor deposition method

        Atchudan, R.,Perumal, S.,Karthikeyan, D.,Pandurangan, A.,Lee, Y.R. Elsevier 2015 Microporous and mesoporous materials Vol.215 No.-

<P>Mn/MgO was prepared by wet impregnation method and was used as a catalytic template for the growth of graphitic mesoporous carbon (GMC) using acetylene gas as carbon precursor at 900 degrees C by CVD method. The deposited carbon nanostructured material was separated from the catalytic template by the acid treatment, and was investigated by various physico-chemical techniques such as XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, and Raman spectroscopy. The BET surface area of GMC is ca. 200 m(2) g(-1). The XRD pattern and Raman spectroscopic techniques revealed the crystallinity and the degree of graphitization of mesoporous carbon. The interlayer distance of graphene sheet in GMC is around 0.34 nm. All the analytical results strongly support that the prepared mesoporous carbon to be highly ordered and well in graphitic nature. Further, the results demonstrate that the GMC synthesized by using a Mn/MgO might be a promising contender for the large-scale synthesis. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.</P>

In Vitro Therapeutic Potential of Tio2 Nanoparticles Against Human Cervical Carcinoma Cells

        Pandurangan, M.,Enkhtaivan, G.,Young, J. A.,Hoon, H. J.,Lee, H.,Lee, S.,Kim, D. H. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 Biological trace element research Vol.171 No.2

<P>Cellular and physiological responses to the degradation products of titanium implants are key indicators to determine the quality of biocompatibility of implant devices. The present study investigated titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticle-induced cytotoxicity, apoptotic morphological modification, and apoptotic-related gene expressions in the human cervical carcinoma cells. TiO2 nanoparticle-induced cytotoxicity on cancer cells was determined by the sulphorhodamine-B assay. Apoptotic morphological modification such as nuclear fragmentation, rounding, cytoplasm shrinkage, loss of adhesion, and reduced cell volume were observed by an inverted, fluorescence, and confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). The DNA fragmentation study showed the occurrence of necrosis and apoptosis in nanoparticle-treated cells. The qPCR study showed the increased p53 and bax mRNA expression in the nanoparticle-treated cells compared to control. In addition, caspase 3 activity was increased in nanoparticle-treated cells, which indicates the increased auto-catalysis. Taking all these data together, it may suggest that TiO2 nanoparticle could inhibit the growth of HeLa cells.</P>

      • Synthesis and characterization of graphenated carbon nanotubes on IONPs using acetylene by chemical vapor deposition method

        Atchudan, R.,Perumal, S.,Edison, T.N.J.I.,Pandurangan, A.,Lee, Y.R. North-Holland 2015 Physica E, Low-dimensional systems & nanostructure Vol.74 No.-

The graphenated carbon nanotubes (G-CNTs) were synthesized on monodisperse spherical iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) using acetylene as carbon precursor by simple chemical vapor deposition method. The reaction parameters such as temperature and flow of carbon source were optimized in order to achieve G-CNTs with excellent quality and quantity. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) clearly illustrated that the graphene flakes are forming along the whole length on CNTs. The degree of graphitization was revealed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectroscopic techniques. The intensity of D to G value was less than one which confirms the obtained G-CNTs have high degree of graphitization. The optimum reaction temperature for the IONPs to form metallic clusters which in turn lead to the formation of G-CNTs with high carbon deposition yield is at 900oC. The TEM shows the CNTs diameter is 50nm with foiled graphene flakes of diameter around 70nm. Our results advocate for IONPs as a promising catalytic template for quantitative and qualitative productivity of nanohybrid G-CNTs. The produced G-CNTs with high degree of graphitization might be an ideal candidate for nanoelectronic application like super capacitors and so on.
