        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of internal-external personal traits and body cathexis of college women on their clothing image preferences. Data were collected using questionnaire from 400 female students from 4 Universities located in Kwangju. Data from 332 respondents were analyzed using SAS package. The frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, t-test, correlation. Principal Factor Analysis were used. The results were as follows: 1. The body cathexis of respondents to their own body was not so high, the satisfaction to their body parts were face features, shoulder, arms and hands, legs and feet, height, torso, physique, weight orderly. 2. The clothing image preferences classified by the 5 factors : usual-individualis tic, casual-formal, refined-splendid, and masculine-feminine image. 3. The extroversion group preferred the individualistic clothing image more to introversion group and the introversion group preferred the masculine clothing image more to extroversion group. 4. Higher the body cathexis respondents preferrer the splendid and the individualistic clothing images. 5. Higher the satisfaction to face features, shoulder, arms, and hands, legs and feet the respondents preferrer the splendid clothing image. 6. Higher the body cathexis, the respondents belong to introversion group preferrer the splendid clothing image, and the respondents belong to extroversion group preferrer the casual clothing image.

        중년여성의 신체지각과 이상적 연령에 따른 기성복 맞음새 만족도

        The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the effects of the difference between actual and perceived body type and body cathexis on satisfaction with fit and 2) to identify the effect of the difference between chronological and ideal age of middle-aged woman on satisfaction with fit of ready-to-wear. For this study, questionnaires were administered to 500 middle-aged woman in Kwangju. Employing 402 respondents, data were analyzed by using χ2-test, t-test and Pearson Correlation. The results were as follows; 1) There were significant differences between actual and perceived body types among middle-aged women. Those who were inconsistent with actual and perceived body types had a tendency to perceive themselves to be obeser than actual body, 2) Those who were inconsistent with actual and perceived body types had a lower satisfaction level with apparel fit sites at jacket length, hip width, crotch length and waist width than those who were consistent with actual and perceived body types. 3) Correlation for body cathexis and satisfaction with fit of ready-to-wear was significantly positive. 4) There were significant differences between chronological and ideal ages. 5) Those who were inconsistent with chronological and ideal ages had a lower satisfaction level with apparel fit sites at neckline, shoulder width, bust, sleeve length, sleeve width, jacket length, waist width, hip width and skirt length than those who were consistent with chronological and ideal ages.
