Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among poverty perceived by parents, inattention, social withdrawal, academic efficacy and the depression of children. Methods: The research subjects consisted of 2596(boy: 1307(50.3%), girl: 1289(49.7%)) Children of KCYPS 2018 panel(the first year survey) by the National Youth Policy Institute. Participants completed self-report questionnaires designed to assess poverty perceived by parents, inattention, social withdrawal, academic efficacy and the depression of children. Data were analyzed based on the mediating effects between variables using SPSS Process Macro model 6. Results: The result of the study showed inattention, social withdrawal, and academic efficacy completely mediated the relationship between poverty perceived by parents and their children’s depression. Secondly, the dual mediation effect of inattention, social withdrawal, and academic efficacy was significant. Thirdly, there was a sequential triple meditation effect among social withdrawal, inattention and academic efficacy. This means that the more parents perceive poverty, the more their children will experience social withdrawal, which again leads to inattention, dropping academic efficacy and increasing depression. Conclusion: On the basis of the results of this study, the implications on the case conceptualization and intervention strategy with a focus on poverty and the depression of children and future research are discussed.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the sequential mediating effects of self-esteem and positive peer play interaction between warmth parenting and the social competence of preschoolers. Methods: The 7th wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children(2014) was used to analyze 1,113 preschoolers. Sequential mediation effects were analyzed using SPSS Process Macro(Hayes, 2013). Results: Warmth parenting indirectly affected preschooler s social competence(cooperation, assertion, self-control) by yielding sequential mediation effects on self-esteem and peer play interaction. Namely, warmth parenting does not directly affect social competence but does have a significant effect on preschooler self-esteem, which positively affected peer play interaction. This path increases the social competence(cooperation, assertion, self-control) of preschool children. Conclusion/Implications: In order to increase the social competence (cooperation, assertion, self-control) of preschool children, it is important for the preschooler to consider themselves a worthy person and to learn positive interaction techniques through warmth parenting.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the process linking mother’s authoritative parenting behavior and children's school adjustment, focusing on the sequential mediational role of children's self-esteem and executive function difficulty. Methods: The research subjects were 694 (boys: 356, girls: 338) who had participated in the 11th Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). The survey data were analyzed mediating effect between variables using the SPSS Process Macro model 6. Results: First, mother’s authoritative parenting behavior had a significant direct effect on children's school adjustment. Second, mother’s authoritative parenting behavior had an indirect effect on children's school adjustment through executive function difficulty. Third, the indirect path linking mother’s authoritative parenting behavior and children's school adjustment through children's self-esteem and executive function difficulty was significant, and the sequential mediational model was supported. Conclusion: On the basis of the results of this study, the implications on the case conceptualization and intervention strategy with a focus on the school adjustment of children and future research are discussed.
학령 초기 자녀의 부모용 양육행동 척도 개발 및 타당화

This study was conducted in order to develop a parenting behavior scale for parents of school-age children and to analyze the scale in terms of both reliability and validity. Data were collected from a sample of mothers of 1st to 3rd grade students in four elementary schools located in Seoul. 778 mothers were administered a parenting behavior scale with 123 items, and 779 mothers were asked to verify the validity of the developed scale in which 45 items remained after a series of analyses. Data were analyzed by means of exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis. The results of factor analysis identified five factors, Warmth, Reasoning, Intrusiveness, Coercion, and Neglect. The Cronbach`s a of each factor demonstrated results of .82~.86, suggesting that the scale had adequate internal consistency. Concurrent validity was established by using correlations between mothers` parenting behaviors and children`s social competence. Moreover, cross-validation was also verified for the five factors. Considering the reliability and validity of this scale, it can clearly serve as a useful tool for assessing parenting behavior which is closely related to child development.
걸음마기 아동의 어머니를 대상으로 한 부모존경-자녀존중 부모교육프로그램의 효과

Objective: This study used a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program developed for mothers of toddlers. Methods: A total of 40 mothers were assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 20) and a waiting group (n = 20). Mothers in the intervention group participated in six weekly sessions of the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the preand post-test in terms of mothers’ parenting characteristics (i.e., parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy, and parenting stress) and toddlers’ social and emotional characteristics were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group showed significant improvement in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy and decreased parenting stress, whereas mothers in the waiting group did not show any significant differences between pre- and post-test scores. Mothers in the intervention group also reported a significant improvement in their toddlers’ level of imitation/play. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in both mothers’ and toddlers’ characteristics, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of children.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the nature of the experience of adolescent unmarried mothers. Methods: For this purpose, we interviewed seven adolescent unmarried mothers and analyzed the collected data using the psychological phenomenological method. Results: As a result, three categories, nine topics, and twenty-seven meaning units emerged. The three theme categories are as follows: (1) the crisis and change of pregnancy and childbirth, (2) use of social support networks, and (3) career development in adulthood that has entered unexpectedly. This study suggests that the meaning of parenthood for adolescent unmarried mothers is derived by examining the difficulties experienced in rearing their children and the process of overcoming difficulties. Conclusions: The results of this study provide academic data for the development of intervention programs for adolescent unmarried mothers.
