Background and Objectives: Angiogenesis is the process of new blood vessel development from preexisting vessel. Angiogenenesis has been considered to be essential for the growth and expansion of a solid tumor. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), known as one of the most important vascular permeability factors, induces proliferation of endothelial cells, stiumulates angiogenesis, and increases vascular permeability. Several recents reports have documented that VEGF overexpression is associated with poor clinical outcomes in many maligmancies. The aims of this study were to determine whether microvessel density and VEGF expression are related to clinicopathologic factors such as age, sex, tumor size, tumor stage, and prognostic factors and to evaluate the relationship between VEGF expression and angiogenesis in benign and malignant thyroid tumors. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 65 patients (27 with papillary carcinoma, 27 with adenomatous hyperplasia, 11 with follicular adenoma) who underwent thyroidectomy from 1995 to 2001. Imuunohistochemistry was used to detect VEGF expression and microvessel density (MVD) in paraffin-embedded thryoid tumor specimens. Results: The intensity of the VEGF expression did not show stastically difference between benign and malignant thyroid tumors. There was no apparent correlation between VEGF expression and age, tumor size, T stage or scores of the AGES, AMES and MACIS systems. The neo-microvessel density was higher in the maligant tumor than the benign tumors. Also, higher neo-microvessel density was associated with metastases of the lymph nodes and scores of the AMES and AGES systems. Conclusion: Our results suggest that neo-microvessel vessel density may be a significant prognostic factor in the thyroid papillary carcinoma. But the VEGF expression does not appear to be an significant independent prognostic factor for thyroid papillary carcinoma.
강성 측정을 이용한 철도 토공 노반의 품질관리 예비연구

The quality control of compacted fills has been carried out by evaluating relative densities and coefficients of soil reaction. These measures have several limitations regarding repeatability and reliability of field measurements, and difficulties to use in the fills including large grain size as gravels and boulders. Also, the density is not directly related to the design parameter such as resilient modulus. A preliminary investigation for the usage of the stiffness as a control measure has been carried out. In the laboratory, the stiffness (P-wave velocity) was measured during compaction tests. The stiffness at the optimal moisture content was proposed to use a target control parameter likewise maximum dry density. A field method to match the target stiffness was also proposed by considering easiness of the method and availability of equipment. The most phenomenal feature of the method is that the control parameter (stiffness) is closely related to resilient modulus and can be consistently used from the design stage to the field control during construction.
적층공법 적용 모르타르의 경화 전.후 특성에 대한 기초실험 평가

최근 거푸집 공사 및 후속 다짐 과정이 생략되어 공기 단축을 유도할 수 있는 3D 콘크리트 프린팅 공법이 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 소형 갠트리형 장비를 이용하여 모르타르에 대한 적층 공법을 적용하고 3DCP 공법에 대한 기초 성능평가를 수행하였다. 양호한 모르타르 출력 및 적층을 위한 배합비를 도출하였고;출력성능;적층성능;압축강도;휨인장강도 및 수중불분리성을 평가하였다. 출력물의 직선구간에서 폭이 일정하고;표면의 결점 및 끊어짐이 없는 양호한 출력성능을 나타내었다. 적층성능 평가를 통해 수중 출력 시 항복응력 발현 속도가 빨라져 적층 시간간격 증가에 따라 층 높이 변화율이 감소됨을 확인하였다. 출력 시 길이방향 구속으로 인해 적층물로부터 추출한 공시체 보다 몰드에 타설한 공시체의 휨인장강도가 더 낮게 나타났다. 수평방향의 압축강도가 수직방향의 압축강도보다 다소 높게 평가되었으며;수중 출력 시 적층물로부터 추출한 공시체의 압축강도가 몰드에 타설한 공시체보다 높은 압축강도를 나타내었다. Recently;the three-dimensional concrete printing (3DCP) method has been garnering considerable interest owing to its ability to significantly reduce the construction time. In this study;3D printing or additive manufacturing was applied to mortar using a small gantry type equipment and the performance of the method was evaluated. The mixture proportioning for good mortar printing and deposition was derived. The parameters of printability;buildability;compressive strength;flexural tensile strength;and anti-washout were considered for the performance evaluation. The results showed good printability with a constant width and no surface defects. In the buildability test;the rate of yield stress development increased;and the rate of change in the layer height decreased as the interlayer time interval increased during underwater printing. The flexural tensile strength of the specimen cast into the mold was lower than that of the specimen extracted from the additive parts owing to the longitudinal confinement during printing. The compressive strength in the lateral direction was slightly higher than that in the perpendicular direction;whereas the compressive strength of the specimen extracted from the part printed underwater was higher than that of the specimen cast into the mold.
3D 프린팅 콘크리트의 강도 측정용 공시체 제작방법에 따른 강도 특성 평가

이 연구는 방향성에 따른 3D 프린팅 콘크리트의 강도 특성을 평가하기 위해, 직선 적층물을 제작하여 프린팅 방향에 따른 하중가력 방향을 수직, 축, 길이 세 방향으로 시험체를 추출하여 강도 특성을 평가하였다. 적층제조 시 발생하는 구속 압력의 방향 및 정도에 따라 적층물의 휨강도 및 압축강도가 다르게 나타나 비등방성의 특성을 보여주었다. In this study, in order to evaluate the strength characteristics of 3D printing concrete according to the directionality, the strength characteristics were evaluated by making a straight laminate and extracting the specimen in three directions, perpendicular, lateral, and longitudinal, in the direction of loading based on the printing direction. According to the direction and degree of confinement pressure generated during additive manufacturing, the flexural and compressive strength of the part was different, showing anisotropic properties.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate shoulder function and preoperative and postoperative electrophysiological changes related to the spinal accessory nerve with reference to neck dissection technique. Materials and Methods: We evaluated shoulder function by pain, strength and range of motion in a total of 35 neck dissection cases of 29 patients with head and neck cancer or thyroid papillary cancer. Electrophysiologic studies were performed before surgery, after third postoperative weeks and 6 months respectively. The results of each test according to the types of neck dissection were compared. Results: Clinical parameters of shoulder function and electrophysiologic study showed deterioration in early postoperative periods and improvements in late postoperative periods when the spinal accessory nerve was spared and permanent nerve damage was observed in radical neck dissection. There were correlations between the clinical parameters and electrophysiologic studies. Conclusion: The shoulder function after spinal accessory nerve sparing procedure is better than the function after nerve sacrificing procedure.
