<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Generally, in SnO<SUB>2</SUB>-based anode materials, the reversible alloying/dealloying reaction is the main Li-ion storage mechanism. Interestingly, these materials can show an exceptionally high capacity that is beyond the theoretical value (i.e., 783 mA h g<SUP>−1</SUP> based on Sn + 4.4Li<SUP>+</SUP> + 4.4e<SUP>−</SUP> ⇌ Li<SUB>4.4</SUB>Sn reaction), owing to the reversibility of the reaction between Sn and Li<SUB>2</SUB>O to form SnO<SUB>x</SUB> (x = 1, 2), so-called conversion reaction. Herein, we prepare Cu-reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanocomposites as a model system in order to demonstrate an effective strategy to improve the reversibility of the conversion reaction in SnO<SUB>2</SUB>. The incorporation of rGO can prevent the aggregation of SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoparticles. Furthermore, the Cu-rGO-SnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanocomposite exhibits the most improved conversion reaction reversibility, resulting in improved cycling performance and high capacity. Ex-situ transmission electron microscopy analysis confirms the high reversibility of the conversion as well as the alloying/dealloying reactions. Also, Cu nanoparticles promote the decomposition of amorphous Li<SUB>2</SUB>O, leading to enhancement of the conversion reaction between Sn and Li<SUB>2</SUB>O. Therefore, these results demonstrate a strategy for significantly improving the electrochemical performances of SnO<SUB>2</SUB>-based anodes for Li-ion batteries.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Cu-rGO-SnO<SUB>2</SUB> was prepared by hydrothermal and electrical wire explosion process. </LI> <LI> Well-dispersed SnO<SUB>2</SUB> NPs on rGO were more effective in the conversion reaction. </LI> <LI> Cu was used as a catalytic material to induce more reversible conversion reaction. </LI> <LI> SnO<SUB>x</SUB> in Cu-rGO-SnO<SUB>2</SUB> was reversibly formed by the conversion reaction. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

We describe a case of an intrathoracic kidney combined with right congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) that was diagnosed at 32 weeks of gestation. Although it has been well established that a right CDH shows a poorer outcome than a left CDH, our present case showed a good outcome because there was no herniation of other abdominal viscera, except for the right kidney. Our findings in this case indicate that impaction of the intrathoracic kidney may act as a ‘shield’ against further herniation of other abdominal viscera into the thoracic cavity.

Over the past years regulatory agencies of Europe, the United States, and Japan have announced policies to facilitate the establishment and utility of registries at the national level in order to enhance post-marketing surveillance. With the recent increase in medical products safety issues, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is planning to build a patient registry system to monitor the safety of problematic products. The objective of this study is to examine the initiatives and the activities of health authorities in the US, Europe, and Japan and identify the essential features of well-operated registries. We collected information from official documents and postings on the health authority’s homepages about activities and efforts of the initiatives. We also surveyed and analyzed the official reports, the guide for each stakeholder of registries, and the information sheets for patients or doctors as case studies of well-designed registries. Therefore, this study suggests future directions on how to plan a long-term follow-up system and on how to design national level registries in Korea.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A direct internal reforming (DIR) reaction for a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) is carried out using SiO<SUB>2</SUB> supported catalysts, which are known to be a highly stable in catalytic reactions. The SiO<SUB>2</SUB> supported Ni catalysts rapidly deactivate in DIR-MCFC. To elucidate the mechanism of the catalyst deactivation, various characteristic analyses (XRD, BET, H<SUB>2</SUB>-chemisorption, FT-IR, and SEM) of calcined and used catalysts are employed. The co-existence of H<SUB>2</SUB>O and K causes the formation of the non-active nickel oxide and silica hydrate resulting in the significant decrease of Ni dispersion and BET surface area.</P> <P><B>Highlight</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The co-existence of H<SUB>2</SUB>O and K causes the formation of NiO and SiO<SUB>2</SUB>·<I>x</I>H<SUB>2</SUB>O. </LI> <LI> Silica hydrate significantly affects morphology and texture of the catalyst. </LI> <LI> BET S.A. and Ni dispersion of catalyst with K ultimately decrease after reaction. </LI> <LI> SiO<SUB>2</SUB> lost role of support and the catalyst containing SiO<SUB>2</SUB> rapidly deactivate. </LI> <LI> SiO<SUB>2</SUB> component is not a suitable support for the specific case (DIR-MCFC). </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
