예비유아교사교육과정에서의 다문화교육 방향에 대한 유아교사들의 담론분석

본 연구의 목적은 다문화가정의 유아를 교육한 경험이 있는 현직 유아교사들이 다문화교육과 관련해서 어떠한 교육을 받았고, 예비유아교사교육과정에서 이루어지는 다문화교육의 방향에 대해서 어떠한 제안을 하는지 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 유아교사 10명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 본 연구에 참여한 교사들은 대학 재학 중에 예비교사로서 다문화에 초점을 둔 교과목을 수강한 경험이 없으며, 현직교사들을 위한 연수 과정에서도 다문화교육과 관련된 연수를 받은 경험이 없는 경우가 많았다. 연수를 받은 일부 교사들의 경우에도 연수의 내용이 미흡하다고 느끼고 있었다. 다만, 최근에 교육대학원에 진학한 일부 교사들의 경우 다문화 관련 교과목을 수강하였으며, 대학원에서 배운 내용과 현장과의 연계가 이루어져 도움이 된다고 인식하였다. 둘째, 유아교사들은 다문화교육에 대한 전문성을 갖춘 예비유아교사를 양성하기 위해서 다문화에 대한 소양을 갖추어주는 교육이 선행되어야 하며, 다문화 관련 정책 및 정부의 지원에 대한 교육, 다문화교육 현장의 실제에 대해서 알 수 있는 사례 중심의 교육, 다문화가정을 위한 부모교육 능력을 길러주는 교육, 그리고 다문화가정 유아 및 부모와의 의사소통 방법에 대한 이해를 돕는 교육이 이루어져야 한다고 제안하였다. This study examines early childhood teachers` experiences of pre-service and in-service teacher education for multicultural education and their suggestions for pre-service teacher education that would strengthen pre-service teachers` competency in multicultural education. In-depth interviews conducted with 10 early childhood teachers reveal that most of the teachers never took a course on multicultural education during their pre-service teacher education and only a few teachers had opportunities to learn about multicultural education as part of their in-service training. The teachers felt that the content of the in-service training on multicultural education did not reflect their educational needs. The teachers made the following suggestions to improve pre-service training for multicultural education. First, pre-service teacher education should be able to cultivate pre-service teachers` grounding in multicultural education. Second, pre-service teacher education should strengthen pre-service teachers` knowledge of policy issues and governmental services provided for multicultural families. Third, the teachers also suggested that pre-service teacher education programs should help pre-service teachers understand the importance of parent education for multicultural families and develop teacher competency in effectively communicating with parents and children of multicultural families.
