Highly stable proton exchange membrane made by Layer-by-layer assembly technique and click-reaction

Layer-by-layer assembly (LBL) method is the one which laminates different polymers alternatively by using electrostatic force. Study on LBL membrane with various polymer has progressed so far. However most LBL membranes show dissociation phenomenon in acid and base solution or under fuel cell operation condition. In this study, we prepared proton exchange membrane by using LBL assembly technique. Also, we synthesize the cationic polymer and anionic polymer with specific functional groups to crosslink each other. Azide and alkyne group is known to make covalent bond by Click-reaction under catalytic condition. We chose azide and alkyne group as functional groups for crosslinking. Click reaction between polymers is allowed to proceed during LBL deposition. Crosslinking of both polymers is expected to make the membrane more stable.
