Thermal shock phenomenon has been known as a major reason of filter cracking. In this study, the thermal shock phenomenon was simulated in a light duty diesel engine with a PM loaded filter by rapid switching the engine operating conditions from 3500rpm of full load to idle. This study compares the thermal shock characteristics of platinum coated and uncoated cordierite filters and suggests safe PM loading amount against the thermal shock.

Purpose: To evaluate the natural clinical course of sporadic congenital oculomotor apraxia associated with ataxia. Methods: In a retrospective study from June 1994 to March 2004, 3 patients with sporadic congenital oculomotor apraxia associated with ataxia were evaluated. Oculomotor apraxia and ataxia were checked. Results: The three patients with sporadic congenital oculomotor apraxia associated with ataxia showed a decrease in head thrust which can be found specifically in oculomotor apraxia, and an improvement of oculomotor apraxia and ataxia over the 10-year observation period. Conclusions: A favorable natural clinical course can be expected in a case of sporadic congenital oculomotor apraxia associated with ataxia in the absence of any clinical evidence of inheritance or genetic abnormality. This study was conducted to examine behavioral characteristics of sea cucumber for seeking shelter space. Physical factors were restricted to hole sizes (0.0014, 0.0025 and 0.0079 m2) and materials (porous cement mortar, cement mortar and PVC) of blocks for shelter structure and focused on the moving pattern of sea cucumber when they seek the suitable shelter space by body sizes and shelter materials. A series of experiments were conducted in a recirculation aquaculture system with dimensions of 2100×1000×1100 mm. 30 sea cucumbers (small: 13.05±5.17 g, medium: 55.95±4.13 g and large: 100.65±3.07 g) were used for each experiment. The experiments were replicated 6 times at 15℃. The movement patterns of sea cucumber were observed using video and naked eyes for 12 hours twice a day. The numbers of the animals attracted by different blocks were observed and recorded in twice a day. The data were evaluated by an analysis of PVS program. The moving distance (avg. 1.43 m) and speed (avg. 4.34 10<SUP>-3</SUP>m/s) of sea cucumber showed the highest activity at large size group. Also, larger size of sea cucumbers showed the active motility for seeking shelter place than smaller.
인터쿨러용 판형열교환기 내부유로의 유동현상에 관한 전산유체해석

Plate heat exchangers (PHE) have been widely used in different industrial applications, because of high heat transfer efficiency per unit volume. Basic study is performed for the feasibility of PHE to intercooler in automotive. In order to understand the flow phenomena in the plate heat exchanger, a channel which was formed by the upper and lower plate in single plate was considered as calculation domains. Because chevrons attached on the upper plate are brazed with chevrons attached on the lower plate. the flow channel has very complex configuration. This complex geometry was analyzed by Fluent which is general CFD (computational fluid dynamics) S/W. To validate this methodology the proper experimental and theoretical data are collected and compared with numerical results. Finally, due to the lack of experimental values for PHE to intercooler, various chevron angles and air velocities at inlet were tested in terms of physical phenomena. From this point of view, results of velocity vector path lines, static pressure, heat flux. heat transfer coefficient, and Nusselt number are physically reasonable and accepted for the solutions. Thus, the methodology of the flow analysis in the full geometry of the channel was established for the predictions of performance in plate heat exchanger.<br/>

The air in cities has been heavily polluted by vehicle emissions. Above all, exhaust gases of diesel engines is the principal cause of these air pollutions. DOC is used to reduce harmful emissions, such as HC, CO and PM. But PM reduction rate of DOC is not enough. DPF is necessary to reduce PM and satisfy regulations. Metal foam is the one of promising materials in process on researches. Metal foam filter is available to use with catalytic coating. In case of catalytic metal foam, it reduce efficiency of PM reduction. In this study, we research the cause why efficiency of PM reduction is been worse and find out the most suitable condition.

The performance of radial type metal foam DPF was studied. The radial type metal foam DPF was built by rolling INCOfoam® HighTemp into a hollow cylinder and installing it inside the DPF can with a conical flow reflector. Several types of metal foam DPF were tested. They are different in filter thickness, mean pore size, and Platinum coating with 2.5g/l or not. The test mode was determined to simulate the on-road vehicle speeds on the engine bench. In the testing vehicle speeds, the SOF in total PM emissions was so high due to the low engine load that the PM reduction via Platinum coating was dominant. Compared with cordierite filters, the radial type metal foam DPF showed similar PM reduction rate but lower increase in Δp during engine run at steady engine conditions due to their large mean pore sizes. Compared with axial type metal foam DPF studied in previous studies, the radial type metal foam DPF provides 7 times higher filtering area which enables higher PM reduction rate and lower Δp across DPF. The Platinum coated radial type metal foam filter was proven to be suitable for the replacement for cordierite filter in that it provides slow increase in Δp but comparable PM reduction rate.
