유교적 남성의 특성은 종종 지배경향, 폭력적 성향, 기존질서와 합리성에 대한 과도한 의존, 편협한 객관성과 독선, 감정의 무시, 성적 공격성 등으로 함축되어 왔다. 그간 TV드라마에서는 이러한 유교적 남성의 특성을 좀 더 유연하고 부드러운 성격으로 표현하고자 애를 썼지만 남자주인공을 둘러싼 가부장적 캐릭터들은 여전히 그 전형성을 유지하여 전통성에서 벗어나지 못한 것도 사실이다. 그러나 시대가 바뀌면서 어떤 남성이 정말 남성다운 남성이고, 어떤 여성이 정말 여성다운가를 규정하는 일은 더욱더 모호해져갔다. 전통적인 성역할의 규정에 의문이 제기되면서 그동안 지켜온 성역할에 대한 규범과 한계가 허물어져 캐릭터에 대한 몰입도 역시 어려워졌다는 뜻이다. 하지만 최근 우리는 생계를 책임지는 여자와 가사 일을 돌보는 남자가 더 이상 성역할에 안주할 수만은 없는 현실에 봉착하고 있다. 이러한 시대적 상황 속에서 TV개국 50여년 만에 여성과 남성의 역할에 경계가 사라졌다 해도 과언이 아니다. 청동기에서 철기시대로 접어들면서 혼돈의 시대를 맞이했던 그 날의 ‘발복’설화가 오늘 이 시대와 맞아 떨어지고 있다는 것은 분명 의미하는 바가 크다 할 것이다. 그 옛날 상당수 여성들이 남성과 직접 경쟁할 수 있을 정도로 강인했다는 사실, 남성이 오히려 여성의 판단력과 지혜에 지배를 받았다는 사실, 여성들이 사회생활에서 남성과 대등한 권리를 확보하기 위해 해방을 외쳤다는 사실은 오늘날 더욱 의미있게 다가온다. 그러므로 이 논고는 MBC드라마 「결혼계약」의 남자주인공인 한지훈(이서진 분)을 그 옛날 숯구이의 자아발전 양상과 대비해 연구해 보았다. 전통적 가부장제의 희생물이자 폭력성향이 강했던 한 남자가 쫓겨난 여자를 만남으로써 어떻게 ‘참 남자’로 변하며 어떻게 세상살이와 사랑에 눈을 뜨는지 16부작 전편을 면면히 들여다보고 숯구이의 서사와 비교 분석했다. 과연 최근 드라마에서 대세로 떠오른 남성캐릭터는 남과 여의 역할 및 태도가 정반대로 바뀌는 현실을 극명히 보여주고 있고, 그러므로 현재 우리는 가치전복의 시대를 온 몸으로 부딪치며 살아가고 있음을 여실히 깨닫게 한다. The characteristics of confucian males have often included a tendency to dominate, a propensity for violence, an excessive dependence on existing orders and rationality, narrow objectivity and self-righteousness, emotional negligence, and sexual aggression. Meanwhile, TV dramas have put a lot of effort into relieving such rigid characteristics of confucian males by describing them as flexible and gentle, but it is also true that those who surround male main characters still remain typical to patriarchal tradition. But today, we have difficulty defining clearly what is masculine and what is feminine. we have been questioning traditional gender role concepts continually, and then what we have learned about who we are, or what we should do has become a main target of criticism. As times are changing, likewise, such a dramatic relationship between a woman who earns a living and a man who takes care of housework, or a woman who is an anti-cinderella overcoming her obstacles on her own and a man who is possessed by an inferiority complex, opposes a traditional division of gender roles. Although the pressure to follow these roles is still rampant in reality, these gender borders were broken down when it comes to TV dramas, finally 50 years after broadcasting station had been established. The fact that ‘Women’s born luck’ type of folklores which originated from the chaotic era - the transition period from the Bronze age to the Iron age - matches our era is very suggestive. It implies our era has encountered another problem that sexual discrimination concepts cannot account for. The facts of the distant past that many females were strong enough to compete directly with males, that males were rather governed by females’ judgement and wisdom, and that females spoke out loud for emancipation to secure their equal rights in social lives, is not totally different at all to those of our days. Therefore, this paper was supposed to deal with the self-development aspects of male main character in MBC TV drama 「Marriage Contract」, compared with those of ‘a charcoal man’ of the distant past. It studied the whole 16 episodes to analyze the process of how a man who was a victim of patriarchal system becomes ‘the real man’ by meeting an expelled woman, and to compare it with the narrative of a charcoal man. As expected, the male main character who leads the general trend of recent TV dramas shows the real situation that gender roles and attitudes are changing conversely, and then reminds us that we all live in a value-subversive era fiercely.
