This paper studies interactive media installations of ecological museums. Particularly this research focuses on the domestic ecological museums and how each museum develop its artefact contextually. The first two chapters show the theoretical background of this subject based on literature reviews for methodological approaches using interactive media and then analyze several good artefact examples from overseas museums. From this process, we found that modern digital and interactive media production can enhance its exhibition experience. Based on this theoretical studies, in the next chapter, we propose a prototype work of the ecological museum artefact, <Touch Touch Bugs>. This work provides the knowledge of bugs`` life and their ecological environment. Composed of two media interfaces, a game on touch-pad and a related background moving image on a wall-display, this work is to presenthow bugs live throughout their growing stages and in the optimized natural environments. Visitors may access to interactive experience through this artefact in the exhibition and this could help them understand their ecological environment and living organisms, thereby enhancing their understanding about the ecologies around our living world.

        최경화(Kyung-Hwa Choi),김수정(Sujung Kim),장현아(Hyun A Jang),한다희(Dahee Han),권호장(Ho-Jang Kwon),조용민(Yong Min Cho) 한국환경보건학회 2023 한국환경보건학회지 Vol.49 No.3

Background: The conducting of health effect surveys (HESs) in environmentally contaminated vulnerable areas (ECVAs) by the central and local governments has been increasing apace with the increase in demand for HESs since the Environmental Health Act was enacted in South Korea in 2008. Objectives: This study aimed to review the HESs of residents in ECVAs conducted in South Korea. Methods: An analysis was performed on 125 reports obtained from the Environment Digital Library, PRISM, and local government websites after selecting from 803 projects obtained as ECVAs from the Korea ONLine E-Procurement System (1997~2021), National Institute Environment Research (2000~2021), and Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (2009~2021). The reports were classified by background (residents’ demand, HES, and more), research design (cross-sectional study, cohort, ecological study, and panel), pollution source (abandoned metal mine (AMM), industrial complex (IC), and more), and assessment method of exposure and health effects. The survey area was converted into administrative district codes for geographical mapping. Results: There were 37, 34, 18, and 10 cases associated with AMM, IC, waste incinerators, and coal-fired power plants, respectively. Most of the studies conducted were cross-sectional studies and ecological studies. The proportion of epidemiological investigations by residents’ demand showed an increase from 0.0% to 8.9% for the central government while decreasing from 16.7% to 14.3% for local governments after 2008 compared to before 2008. HESs increased at both the central and local government levels since 2014. For the evaluation method, 365 environmental hazards, 319 health outcomes, and 302 biological markers were investigated, with the most commonly investigated items being metals, cancer, and blood metals. Conclusions: HESs of residents in ECVAs in South Korea have been continuously developed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Future improvements are expected, and systematic review and classification of the HESs is warranted.

        조용민(Yong Min Cho),진호현(Hohyun Jin),강지윤(Jiyun Kang),김차훈(Chahun Kim),한다희(Dahee Han),김수현(Su Hyeon Kim),한서희(Seohui Han),홍영습(Young-Seoub Hong),김기태(Ki-Tae Kim) 한국환경보건학회 2023 한국환경보건학회지 Vol.49 No.1

Background: Few studies have assessed exposure to chemicals in the context of environmental vulnerability with a focus on exposure among populations living in certain geographical areas. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate cadmium exposure levels and kidney damage indices in environmentally and socioeconomically vulnerable populations, with further subgrouping according to economic status. Methods: Four areas were selected to represent geographical vulnerability (two environmentally vulnerable populations and two socioeconomically vulnerable populations). Among them, population groups with lower socioeconomic status (SES) were separately classified. Urinary cadmium (UCd), beta2-microglobulin (β2-MG), and N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) levels were analyzed in samples from 245 residents of these four areas. Results: Geometric means of concentrations of UCd (0.97~2.02 μg/g creatinine) in all selected populations (N, 245; mean age, 67.8~70.9 years old) were higher than the national reference values (0.39 for adults and 0.78 μg/g creatinine for people in their 60s). Participants with a lower SES had higher UCd and NAG concentrations than did non-low SES participants. In the lower SES group, there was a significant association between UCd and NAG concentrations; however, there was no such correlation in the non-low SES group. Conclusions: Consistent with the findings of previous studies evaluating chemical exposure and associated health effects in specific populations, the findings of this study suggest that individuals with a low SES may be more vulnerable to exposure and related health effects.
