글로벌 자본에 대한 로컬인의 인식과 실천 -수입자동차 소비 사례-

본 연구는 자본의 세계화가 로컬에 어떻게 작동하며, 초국적 자본이 생산한 상품을 로컬인이 어떻게 소비하는가를 밝히려는 데 목적이 있으며, 이를 구체화시키기 위해 초국적 기업이 생산·판매하는 고급 자동차를 사례로 택하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1980년대 후반 이후 국내에 수입된 자동차의 소비는 특정 도시에 집중화되어 있다. 둘째, 수입자동차에 대한 정보의 획득과 의사결정은 연령별, 성별에 차이를 보이고 있다. 젊은 층은 수입자동차를 구입하기 전에 인터넷, 광고 등을 통해 다양한 정보를 수집·비교해 보지만 장년층은 지인을 통한 정보, 브랜드 등에 의존하는 경향이 있다. 셋째, 기호로서 수입자동차는 사회가 부여한 다양한 의미를 지니게 되며, 이들은 언어적 수행 혹은 체험을 통해 활성화된다. 고급 수입자동차를 구입하여 타고 다니는 행위는 차별에 의한 정체성 형성, 사회적 시선 등과 연관되어 있다. The aim of this study is to critically examine how the globalization of capital works on locals and how local people consume the products by transnational capital. To achieve the goal, luxury imported cars made by transnational company have been selected as a case example. The results are in the followings. Firstly, the consumption of imported cars since the late 1980s have been concentrated on a few metropolitan cities. Secondly, it is different by age and gender in the acquiring and analysis of informations on imported cars. Young people get and compare the variety of information on imported cars through internet, advertisement, and so on. Old people tend to buy imported cars based on informations from familiar people, brand. Thirdly, imported car as a sign has various meanings given by society, and those meanings is (re)produced through their linguistic performance and people s experience. The buying and driving of luxury imported car are related to the differential identity and social view.
