The present study experimentally investigated the effect of refrigeration oil on the condensation heat transfer for R-407C and R-22 in a microfin tube with a U-bend. POE oil ($74.1\;\textrm{mm}^2/s,\;40^{\circ}C$,) and mineral oil $62.5\;\textrm{mm}^2/s,\;40^{\circ}C$,) were used for R-407C and R-22 respectively Experimental parameters were an oil concentration from 0 to 5%, a mass flux from 100 to $400kg/m^{2}s sand an inlet quality from 0.5 to 0.9. The enhancement factors for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants at the first straight section decreased continuously as the oil concentration increased. They decreased rapidly as the mass flux decreased and the inlet quality increased. The heat transfer coefficients in the U-bend showed the maximum at the $90^{\circ}$ position. The heat transfer coefficients at the second straight section within the dimensionless length of 48 were larger by a maximum of 33% than the average heat transfer coefficient at the first straight section.

The present study investigated the two-phase flow characteristics of refrigerant R-22 in T-branch with horizontal and vertical inlet tube The key experimental parameters were the orientation of inlet and branch tubes (horizontal and vertical), diameter ratio of branch tube to inlet tube (1 and 0.61), inlet mass flux (200~500 kg/$m^2$s) and inlet quality (0.1~0.4). Predicted pressure profile agreed with the measured data within 25.4%. The flow distribution ratio decreased as the mass flux increased. The flow distribution ratio decreased by 12~25% as the tube diameter ratio decreased from 1 to 0.61, and decreased by 38~47% as the orientation of branch changed from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal inlet tubes. As the orientation of inlet tube changed from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal branch, the flow distribution ratio increased by 15~68%, but the quality in the branch tube decreased by 28~92% due to phase separation.

The present study has been experimentally investigated the effect of geometric and operating parameters on the two-phase flow distribution of refrigerants in a horizontal T- junction. The operating parameters were the kind of refrigerants(R-22, R-134a, and R-410A), saturated temperature, and the inlet mass flux and quality. The geometric parameters were the tube diameter and the tube diameter ratio. The measured data of refrigerants were compared with the values predicted using the models developed by several researchers for air/ water or steam/water two-phase flow. Among the operating parameters, the inlet quality was the most sensitive to the mass flow rate ratio. Between the geometric parameters, the tube diameter ratio was more sensitive than tube diameter.

This study developed a program for detecting charged refrigerant amount in system air-conditioner. System air-conditioner is an air-conditioning system with multiple indoor units. Due to the complexity of the system, it is more difficult to detect the refrigerant amount charged in the system air-conditioner than in a general single air-conditioner. Experiments were performed for a 6HP outdoor unit with 3 indoor units in a psychrometric calorimeter. The experimental amount of the charged refrigerant was ranged from 60% to 140% with 10% increasement. Fuzzy algorithm was employed for detecting the charged refrigerant amount in the system air-conditioner. The experimental data were used for curve-fitting for the general ranges of indoor and outdoor temperature conditions. Membership function was determined for the whole ranges of experimentally measured data and rule-bases were defined for each charged refrigerant amount. Developed program successfully predicted the measured data within 10% resolution range.

The present study experimentally investigated two-phase flow distribution of reftigerant through T -type branch with horizontal and vertical inlet tube. The experimental parameters were the orientation of inlet and branch tubes(horizontal and vertical), diameter ratios between inlet and branch tubes(0.61 and 1), and mass flux(200-500 kg/㎡) and quality(0.1-0.4) at the inlet tube. The mass flow split ratio into the branch tube always increased as the mass flux at the inlet tube decreased. As the inlet quality increased, the flow split ratio increased for horizontal inlet tube, whereas decreased for vertical inlet tube due to the gravity effect. As the orientation of branch tube was varied from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal inlet tube, the quality at the branch tube increased by average 184%, and as the orientation of inlet tube changed from horizontal to vertical upward for horizontal branch tube, the quality at the branch tube decreased by 28-92% due to the gravity.
