인터넷망에서 MPEG 스트리밍 서비스를 위한 새로운 에러 확산 기법

MPEG 스트리밍 트래픽이 인터넷을 통해서 서비스되어질 때 발생하는 MPEG 비디오 패킷 손실은 영상의 공간적인 그리고 시간적인 에러의 전파 현상을 일으키며, 영상 품질의 심각한 저하를 가져온다. 이러한 영상의 열화 현상은 망에서 패킷의 버스트 손실 특성에 의하여 더욱 더 악화되어진다. 본 논문에서는 버스트 패킷 손실의 영향을 줄일 수 있는 새로운 에러 확산 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 에러 확산 기법은 국부적으로 발생하는 패킷 손실을 효과적으로 넓은 영역에 분포시킬 수 있으며, videocasting이나 video-broadcasting 분야와 같은 ARQ의 사용이 제한되는 응용 서비스에서 이용될 수 있다. 결과적으로 연속적으로 발생하는 이미지 블록 손실 현상이 줄어들게 되며, 에러 은닉 기법의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 실험 결과는 제안된 에러 확산 기법에 의해 MPEG 패킷 손실이 확산되어 비디오 품질의 열화 현상이 개선될 수 있음을 보이고 있다. As the MPEG streaming traffics are transmitted over the Internet, MPEG packet losses cause error propagation in both spatial and temporal domains which in turn leads to severe degradation in image quality. This image degradation is become worse by the bursty packet loss at the network. In this paper, we propose a new error spreading method to reduce the effects of bursty packet losses over the Internet. The proposed error spreading method spreads out the not utilize packet losses widely, and can be used for videocasting and video-broadcasting that do not utilize the ARQ method. The proposed method can not only reduce the consecutive losses of image blocks, but also improve the performance of error concealment. Experimental results show that the deterioration of MPEG video quality can be reduced by spreading out the MPEG packet losses.
