A wheather strip is a sponge form rubber by a forming agent, which prevents the penetration of water and dust, also reduces wind-noise and vehicle-vibration while driving. Recent, an investigation of abrasion resistance reinforced coating is demanded, due to an occurrence of a problem, which is a tearing and wearing of body-side weather strip. So, a development of a new wheather strip coating is promoted. As a result, an abrasion resistance reinforced coating is developed and applied to automobiles, which coating shows 10 times improved abrasion resistance performance, in comparison with current wheather strip coating.

The low air permeability material compounds were developed in the area of tire inner liner rubber. Butyl rubber compounds, which contain special resin or plate crystal-structure filler could improve barrier properties. Using this rubber compounds, tire inner liner thickness decreased by 40%. As a result, tire weight and tire rolling resistance are reduced.

In order to respond to the increasing global environmental regulations, we are continuously carrying out tire lightening research. Studies conducted to make the thickness of under-tread thin. And the performance of the tread adhesion test method was verified in response to the thickness thinning. As a result of comparing the thinning effect of the cap tread and the under tread under the same weight condition among the tread regions, it was confirmed that thinning the under tread was effective in improving rolling resistance and braking distance compared to the cap tread. Based on this study, it was confirmed that rolling resistance can be improved without loss of driving performance.

An important role of the non-associated plastic flow is to realize the extreme dilatancy effect which is occasionally observed in the prediction of behaviors of pressure sensitive materials in a numerical way using associated flow rule of elasto-plasticity. This study developes the three-dimensional constitvtive model of concrete based on non-associated flow theory of plasticity and compares the predicted result based on the developed model with that based on associated flow theory under the various loading conditions including the lateral confining pressures. A way to modelize the non-associated plastic flow is proposed in which the plastic flow direction is determined by introducing the direction angle of plastic flow replacing plastic potential. In a conclusion, the three-dimensional behaviors of concrete predicted using associated and non-associated plastic flow rules are compared with experimental observations.

Background: This study aims to compare the surgical outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) using a screw compression method in simple humeral shaft fractures. Methods: This retrospective study was performed with 50 patients who had surgical interventions for the treatment of simple humeral shaft fractures and had follow-ups of at least 12 months in Ulsan University Hospital between August 2008 and June 2015. Group 1 included 23 patients treated with ORIF and group 2 included 27 patients treated with the MIPO technique using a locking screw plate. The time to clinical/radiographic union, the joint range of motion (ROM), and function were evaluated. Results: The average time to clinical/radiographic bone union was shorter in group 2 (12.0 ± 3.7 weeks/14.8 ± 2.0 weeks in group 1 and 9.4 ± 1.3 weeks/12.0 ± 3.3 weeks in group 2; p = 0.022/p = 0.034). Shoulder and elbow joint function evaluated by joint ROM and visual analogue scale (VAS), Korean Shoulder Elbow Society (KSS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) scores was excellent in both groups. On the average shoulder ROM at 12 months after the operation, group 1 had forward elevation of 160°, external rotation of 30° in adduction and lumbar vertebra 10 level in internal rotation and group 2 had forward elevation of 170°, external rotation of 35° in adduction and lumbar vertebra 9 level in internal rotation. The mean VAS, KSS, ASES, and UCLA scores were 2.8, 87.0 ± 0.9, 89.4 ± 0.9, and 31.0 ± 1.4, respectively, in group 1 and 1.7, 89.1 ± 2.7, 91.0 ± 1.6, and 32.4 ± 3.2, respectively, in group 2. There were statistically significant intergroup differences in VAS score (p = 0.011). There were significantly less postoperative infections in group 2 (three cases, 10.7% in group 1 and 0 case in group 2; p = 0.041) although all of them were superficial infections and well-treated by an average 4-week course of antibiotics (range, 2 to 6 weeks). Conclusions: MIPO using a screw compression method in simple humeral shaft fractures demonstrated superior efficacy to ORIF in terms of the time to clinical/radiographic union, pain score, and postoperative infection rate.

Oil resistance of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), a rubber material for general purpose in automobile industry; is developed by high loading of carbon black. This paper describes improving procedures for compounding the EPDM rubber for air intake hose. Through the testing of material, part, and vehicle test, low oil swell EPDM for air intake hose is fully verified.

EPDM 소재를 공기 중, 수돗물, 3차 증류수, NaCl/CaCl2 혼합 수용액, CaCl2/FeCl3 혼합 수용액에서 7일간 노화시켰다. 노화 온도는 90℃였다. 공기와 3차 증류수에서 노화된 시험편은 백화가 발생하지 않았으나, 수돗물, NaCl/CaCl2 혼합 수용액, CaCl2/FeCl3 혼합 수용액에서 노화된 시험편은 백화가 발생하였다. 백화 물질을 규명하기 위해 GC/MS를 이용하여 가용성 유기물을 분석하였으며, 영상 분석기와 SEM을 이용하여 표면 형태를 조사하였으며, EDX를 이용하여 표면 적층물의 원소 분석을 실행하였다. 백화의 주요 원인으로는 금속 이온과 지방산과의 반응에 의한 지방산 금속염의 형성을 들 수 있다. An EPDM article was aged in air, distilled water, tap water, NaCl/CaCl2 solution, and CaCl2/FeCl3 solution for 7 days. The aging temperature was 90℃. The samples aged in air and distilled water did not appear the whitening, those aged in tap water, NaCl/CaCl2 solution, and CaCl2/FeCl3 solution showed the whitening. Soluble organic materials were analyzed using GC/MS to identify the whitening materials, surface morphology of the aged sample surface was examined using image analyzer and SEM, and elemental analysis of the materials accumulated on the sample surface was performed using EDX. Principal reason to cause whitening might be formation of metal salt of fatty acid by reaction between metal cation and fatty acid.
