Nowadays it is required for a car bumper system to meet the various impact safety regulations. Until now, bumper system is designed for satisfying each impact condition independently. So it is very difficult to design a bumper system tosatisfy all requirements simultaneously, and it has been done by trial and error until now. To overcome these problems, many studies on the optimization of bumper system are being performed. In this study, the bumper optimum design program is developed to optimize the bumper system satisfying the bumper barrier impact, pedestrian protection bumper impact and new IIHS(Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) bumper impact conditions. For this bumper optimum design program, equivalent beam analysis model is developed for each bumper loading condition.

Recently, Cabin air filter is widely used in automotive vehicle to fulfill customer's 'well-being' demands. But survey reports show many customers feel difficulties in recognizing appropriate replacement schedule of cabin air filter which causes the performance downshift of air conditioning system. Accordingly, we studied a cabin air filter changing alarm system. HVAC conditions. driving area, and the material of cabin air filter are considered throughout this alarm system, and the analyzed results call inform the customers for the replacement schedule when dust amount of cabin air filter reaches to a set point. Test results of this system shows the detection accuracy is satisfied within 8 percents error range.

If pedestrian accidents occur in nighttime, the risk of being killed is higher than during daylight. Recognizing pedestrian at night is more difficult than during daylight. New light source, such as HID bulb, and new technology, such as AFLS, have improved a visibility while driving at night. Also using sensor, such as night-vision, it is possible to detect a pedestrian. But the driver has to see the display. In this study, Spot light is developed which illuminate the pedestrian directly detected by NIR sensor and image processing, this system help the driver avoid accident by recognizing the presence of the pedestrian early.

The objective of this study is enhanced thermal performance of the high voltage PTC heater for using a heat source of the electric vehicle or fuel-cell electric vehicle. To optimize performance, design for six sigma(DFSS) Technique was used in this paper. Optimization is made by changing the shape and size of the heater fin. In conclusion, the new high voltage PTC heater is technically superior to its previous PTC heater. Thermal performance and pressure drop is approximately 17% improved.

It is common to use additional carrier system on the outside of car when carrying bicycle for leisure activity. Recently, car makers have been trying to offer integrated bicycle carrier system which stows away under the rear bumper and easily be pulled out to carry up bicycles. This paper shows consideration points for developing rear bumper integrated bicycle carrier system using fold-type linkage.

In spite of satisfying the headlamp regulation, the side of the car is not illuminated enough. To solve this problem, the headlamp has been developed various ways. Using hid bulb, changing the illumination spread(dynamic-bending light) or supplementing the additional light source(static-bending light, cornering light). The first part of this paper compare the performance of the dynamic-bending light and the cornering light with the static-bending light. From this investigation we reached the conclusion that the static-bending light is the most effective way. The second part we suggest the setting parameter for the design optimization of the static-bending light.

It is common to use the Trailer hitch system to carry a small cart, bicycles, a boat and even car. And most of them are attached on side members of a vehicle as after-market products. But it is hard work to detach a muffler and rear bumper because of huge size and crossing layout, and make a trouble to decline the fuel efficiency and an attractive unique appearance of car. So a vehicle like SUV, MPV and SUT has been sold as attached a hitch receiver by car makers. Recently a receiver is being put to use for disable person and elder people. This paper shows consideration points for developing rear bumper and beam system integrated variable hitch receiver.

Recently, the quick heating performance is the big issue in the vehicle because engine performance is high. So car makers adapted the additional heating devices (ex. PTC heater). As quick cabin cooling performance is recorded in the IQS, it is an important issue, too. In this study, the HVAC intake door control is studied for quick heating and cooling performance. In case of the heating performance, it improves 4.0℃ at -20℃ ambient after 20 minutes. And in case of cooling performance, it improves 1.5℃ at 35℃ ambient after 10 minutes. In addition, intake door control system brings on the cost reduction about 200 won because the flab door is eliminated. In present, intake door control system is adapted all HKMC new developing car.

The prupose of this research is to introduce the correlation between FEA and TEST for a pedestrian Lower Legform on SUV. Recently, Domestic and Europe have been evaluating the K-NCAP and Euro-NCAP for pedestrian. Until now, it has been applied the 1st regulation on pedestrian protection on Europe, but It will be applied the 2nd regulation in 2013 on domestic and Europe. But SUV is worse than passenger cars to meet the pedestrian performance. Because it has a high ground point on the center of bumper beam, approach angle over 25°. Therefore, In this research we show the result of the correlation analysis methods that include the Mesh type, boundary condition, sensor measurement and Test VS Analysis Error
