A Study on the Autotransplantational Design Method of Diagram as a Generative Device

Examining the historical and theoretical background of the diagram as a generative device and the concept imbedded design process, this paper proposes a hypothetical architectural design method focusing on the origin of the diagram. Differing from earlier research that sought the origin outside of architecture itself, this method draws upon existing buildings as sources for the design of new buildings. The theoretical validity of the suggested method was discussed in relation to current issues in Architecture. To measure its the potential application of the practical field of architecture, more than 70 student projects were conducted in the architectural design studios at Hanyang University ERICA. The projects show diverse applications of the method and the students’ drawings illustrate each step of the studio brief sequentially and rigorously. Through the pedagogical reflections, the potential application of the proposed design method to architectural field will be measured.

Antidiabetic activity of several herbal drugs, which are used as antidiabetics in folkmedicine, was evaluated. Among tested herbal drugs, extract of Astragali Radix significantly lowered blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced diabetic model rat.

Heating and cooling systems contribute greatly to the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of many countries. Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) are promising energy saving systems for residential, commercial or industrial heating or cooling purposes. A method to estimate the energy consumption and CO2 emission of GSHPs is therefore very eminent. This paper reviews the methodology to calculate the energy consumption and CO2 emission of GSHPs. The discussed methodology is then used to compare the energy consumption and CO2 emission of an open-loop and closed-loop GSHP using data from field test. It is observed that the open-loop GSHP saves 28% energy and reduces CO2 by 28% than the closed-loop GSHP in the cooling season. When used for both cooling and heating purposes in the year, the open-loop GSHP saves about 6% energy and reduces about 6% of CO2 emission than the closed-loop GSHP.

GC/MS analysis of 27 controlled pesticides in herbal drugs was studied. Selected ion monitoring(sim) technique was applied to increase the GC/MS sensitivity. Typical peaks in the mass spectrum of each pesticides were selected as quantitation, comfirmation or alternate ion. Twenty seven pesticides were divided into five groups according to their retention time and the peaks for SIM were programmed accordingly. The combination of two ionization methods, electron impact(EI)-SIM-MS and negative ion chemical ionization(NCI)-SIM-MS, were well-fitted for the detection, confirmation and quantitation of multiclass residual pesticides in herbal drugs.
