As a continuation of the previous study, a second group of sixty two aqueous extracts (freeze dried) from natural products was screened for the inhibitory effect of platelet activating factor(PAF) binding to rabbit platelet using 0.6nM [3H]PAF as a radioligand. The results demonstrated that three medicinal plants inhibited 40~50% of [3H]PAF equilibrium binding at the concentration of 200mcg/ml.

The naphthoquinone compound of Lithospermi Radix (Lithospermum erythrorhizon) was compared with the HPLC method to identify the ingredients of Korean and Chinese Lithospermi Radix. The naphtoquinone component of Lithospermi Radix was analyzed using HPLC method. As a result of analyzing the components of naphtoquinone derivatives of Lithospermi Radix from Yeongwol in Korea, only 95% ethyl alcohol extract was found to have naphthoquinone derivatives, and 70% ethyl alcohol, 50% ethyl alcohol, 30% ethyl alcohol, and distilled water reflux extraction extract were not identified. Meanwhile, among the ultrasonication extract of Lithospermi Radix from Korea and China, the naphthoquinone derivative showing the highest content was β-hydroxyisovaleryl shikonin, followed by the highest content in the order of isovaleryl shikonin and acetyl shikonin. The main components of Korean and Chinese Lithospermi Radix were β-hydroxyisovaleryl shikonin, isovaleryl shikonin and acetyl shikonin when ultrasonication and reflux extraction were extracted with 95% ethyl alcohol.

For several thousand years, Korea ginseng has been used as medicinal herb in the oriental countries. Korea is the ginseng suzerain and, for that reason, the ginseng as a special crop in Korea has been exported to the World market since the era of the three Kingdoms. However, recently, the international market share of Korea ginseng products has been significantly reduced due to the mass production of ginseng from China and Canada. Besides, America with aggressive marketing strategy take the leadership in the international ginseng market. Therefore, it is necessary for Korea to know and understand world ginseng market mood and situation. The object of this study is to identify the actual consumption conditions and consumer perception of ginseng at the major consumptive countries in the world. The findings of this study mean that the consumer behavior and perception of ginseng is difficult depending on country. At the result, it is expected that this study will be used to apply ginseng in various fields.

The objective of this study is to provide the basic information for developing a high-value ginseng product using ginseng saponin and prosapogenin. In order to achieve such aim, Ginsenoside compositions of black ginseng (BG) extracts with various solvent conditions were examined by HPLC. The total saponin and the prosapogenin content of 95% ethyl alcohol extract were higher than that of the either 50% ethyl alcohol extract or distilled water extract. As a result, the order of the total saponin and the prosapogenin content was 1) 95% ethyl alcohol, 2) 50% ethyl alcohol, 3) the first and second mixture of 95% ethyl alcohol, distilled water, and 4) distilled water extract. In the case of fine black ginseng (FBG), the first and second mixture extracts of 95% ethyl alcohol and distilled water were the highest. In addition, the ratio of the protopanaxadiol group and the protopanaxatriol group (PD/PT) showed that the ratio of BG ranged from 0.304 to 0.601, while the ratio of FBG ranged from 1.166 to 1.657.

The study on phytochemical analysis and the biological activity of Kalopanacis Cortex was carried out in this research. As a phytochemical result, liriodendrin as a lignan glycoside was isolated and characterized. Two subfraction separated from the acidic substance of CHCl₃ fraction were saturated and unsaturated fatty acid, respectively. Saturated fatty acid mixture identified from GC-MS tool was as follows: palmitic acid, stearic acid, arachidic acid, heneicosanoic acid, docosanoic acid, tricosanoic acid, tetracosanoic acid, pentacosanoic acid, hexacosanoic acid and octacosanoic acid. Unsaturated fatty acid was found to be linoleic acid on the basis of spectroscopic method. An active principle of liriodendrin exhibited significant antihepatotoxic activity but failed to show a considerable antiedemic activity. In this paper, the result of writhing test on liriodendrin was also described.
