The travel and tourism has been regarded as one of the strategic industries in Korea. In 1998, both the inbound and outbound travelers stood at a total of 8million tourists. It is prognosticated by the KNTC that the coming millenium will see the substantial increase in the number of tourists. For many large mega-events such as ASEM in 2000, the $quot;Visit Korea$quot; in 2001, and the World Cup in 2002 are expected to take place in Korea. Against this background, this article focuses on the development of the products and venues for foreign tourists coming to Korea. The tourist venues, if designed well to fit and meet the needs of travelers, will result in a lot of foreign exchange badly needed for the current economy of Korea. The study makes the following recommendations. First, the popular travel destinations such as the Seoul area, Kyungju, and Cheju should be heavily promoted and developed as venues for cultreal and heritage tourism. Secondly, these sites should have unique themes and features to attract foreign tourists. Thirdly, the tour packages should be developed in conjunction with the up-coming mega events in the millenium. Fourthly, the burgeoning South-North tourism should be studied in depth for its potential growth. Finally, the government`s support will be essential for the success of the tourism venue development.
