      • A Method for Improving Inventory Management using Kano Model and ABC Classification Techniques

        Jun-Il Jung(정준일),Jun-hee Han(한준희),Yonghee Lee(이용희) 대한인간공학회 2021 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2021 No.11

Objective: In this study, work improvement priorities were presented using the Kano model to improve inefficient work processes at the manufacturing site. In addition, an inventory management improvement study was conducted by combining ABC analysis and target inventory management analysis. Background: Many manufacturing sites are experiencing difficulties such as instability in material supply and demand and increase in lead time caused by passive inventory management. In particular, in the small and medium-sized manufacturing sector, inventory management is not smooth, which negatively affects business performance achievement and company value. Method: The material management quality characteristics were classified by applying the Kano model and Timko’s customer satisfaction coefficient. Furthermore, quality factors with high dissatisfaction coefficients were identified, and improvement tasks were suggested. The detailed classification criteria for material management were prepared, grouped by factor, and ABC analysis was performed, and safety stock and target stock management were presented. Results: 11 quality factors were defined in the field of material management, and they were classified into one natural quality and ten unitary qualities. It was confirmed that the ABC analysis considering the characteristics of material management factors was applied to the quality in urgent need of improvement and that the billing method was more economical than the existing method using the target inventory management. Conclusion: This study identifies key quality characteristics that affect inventory management in the manufacturing industry, provides improvement priorities, and considers the quality characteristics of the material management field, making it possible to present more efficient alternatives when applying inventory management. In addition, it is possible to operate an economical inventory by placing an order with target inventory management applied. Application: The classification of material management quality characteristics in this study can be used in the manufacturing material management field. In addition, it is expected that it will contribute to the improvement of inventory management by increasing the accuracy of demand forecasting and reducing inventory maintenance costs through target inventory management.

Vol.26 No.3

Purpose In cases of inventory management at small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, it is difficult to distinguish priorities of on-site inventory management, and the activities to identify and improve inventory management problems are not clear. To solve these problems, we suggest the methodology to present the quality characteristics that need improvement first. Methods We propose the quality characteristics that need improvement by applying the methodology. We define the quality attributes of inventory management and classify the quality characteristics through a survey applying Kano model. Using the results of the survey, Timko’s customer satisfaction coefficient is calculated to improve the quality of inventory management. Results The proposed model is validated through a case study of a shipbuilding equipment manufacturing company. The model identified and classified 11 attributes of the quality of inventory management. The reliability of these attributes are verified by the Cronbach’s alpha (α). Conclusion The proposed model contributes to identify key attributes that affect the manufacturer's inventory management. The model can also provide priorities of the attributes that need to be improved first. Therefore, this research can help to clearly identify and progress the improvement activities that are really needed in practical manufacturing companies.
